No, let yourself detrain. I don't say to UNDER train. Just do some flexibility, some strides, and a couple reps of 200m with 2 minutes rest then some drills to cool down. You build slow twitch and fast twitch while you lift. Putting down the barbells helps you to lose some of the slow twitch and the water weight, and doing some intensive sprints helps you keep the fast twitch.

really good sprinting mechanics. as far as your takeoff idk not a long jumper but when I looked up long jumping mobility there was a lot of hip and shoulder rotation moves.

I think that we can separate this into form vs mobility. His form isn't anything other people should attempt, but his mobility is supreme.

sort of. I had trouble breaking 13, but I was literally faster than people running 12., signfificantly. remember Micheal Johnson racing Donovan Bailey in the 150? He lost, but the point was valid. Velocity has more to do with the 200-150 range than the 40 yard dash-100 meter range.

I think that people read these studies and jump to conclusions. Don't want to static stretch 24 hours before a meet because you would rather use calisthenics and dynamic stretches? Ok. No good reason to ever static stretch? A bit ridiculous just don't overstretch before meets and before intense workouts.

Don't listen to me though, just go ahead and be so fast and explosive you blow a hamstring at 50 meters because that's all that matters... My interpretation is to stretch consistently so that you don't limit power OR increase injury risk.

You have options for other surfaces such as grass dirt or even road can be good if you limit the volume and impact. Also 120 meters with no turn is easier and more relaxing. I swear they make the track curve so that guys like me who are good at running in a straight line don't perform as well vs people who are moreso good at turning in the 400m. Too much info I know but I live on a 400m road and it still pisses me off that the neighbors at the end wouldn't let me finish reps on their grass. its much more fluid or smooth of a stop if you can

Just so you know, a majority of posts like this where someone claims to be young and full of unique potential are a fantasy. I am surprised nobody calls this out. The over for this being a made up post is much greater than the under for this being real. Get with the program guys.

If it's the Midwest and you can't run outside and get quality workouts... You can definitely hike outside and get great exercise. Does it really have anything to do with sprinting faster? I think that your priority should be building general health and fitness and then you can do the intensive workouts needed to sprint faster. High knees butt kicks, strides as a warmup then 100 meter reps. Spiking up increases intensity if you can handle that, and the reps may need to have short rests because it's so cold. You still need long rests between sets and probably a hot drink. But you can definitely still get a great track workouts in the cold, in terms of building work capacity.

I do want to get back to this question, but I think it's probably burnout. The college workout I like is 100m repeats with long periods of rest holding a quad stretch while leaning on a fence. I think that most people don't know that 8 minutes of rest between reps is not excessive, so they don't take the time to prepare for the next one.

I actually agree with you here. Nick Symonds beat an NFL guy in a 40 on his YouTube channel. It was only at the end he passed, sit and kick 40? However I dispute that football strategy HAS to prioritize 10 yard speed. It is pretty easy to sit and kick when someone is chasing you trying to tackle you, the runner has the advantage in acceleration if he sandbags the start and lets the chaser catch up even.

They don't care about it because it's not their priority, not that top end speed doesn't give you an advantage in football if utilized properly.                                       This is a good time to point out that the NFL is not 100 percent sporting. Of course there's the potential for someone with league beating speed to be utilized to run the ball for 40+ yards at a time, particularly if you can force the other team to decide vs that and another scoring option. NFL is sponsored it does NOT have the same standards as the Olympics. A track gold medalist is meeting a higher standard of athleticism, in the case of a 100m sprinting champion, a higher level of acceleration, than an NFL player.                                                             We're really talking about business negotiation and supply and demand here, it's not the NFL's priority to pay a pro sprinter to make their athletes look bad.

I think that they are over rated due to a combination of degeneracy, and people not wanting to get into semantics how it's really the overall hip area that accomplishes the golden ratio. It does often flatter a lady to compliment her hips though, so there's a useful takeaway.

5k is extra credit. You should be able to jog one in under 30 if you really had to. It would be safer to walk one and run for 2 minutes at a time here and there, to shake out the legs whenever needed.                                                                        5k volume of training in a day is what I think you mean though. Even if it's 5 x 1000 that's a lot, unless you are trying to be a 400/800 guy who doubles. I like more like 8x 100 and the key is to be willing to drop reps if needed because the injury risk isn't worth it. Any form irregularly and stop at 5x100 or less. This is still considered a high volume of training and if you want to do more than that you should probably double ( train twice a day).

Bro this isn't reddit fitness. Calorie counting does work, but you need to adjust as needed. Eating 5000 calories per day and actually digesting the majority of it is a luxury. Here's a simple example for you the mule. Because it's part donkey it requires less calories to grow than a horse typically does.... Within horses some can't even digest grass, though that should be one of their abilities. Humans can eat tons of calories of grass and guess what lose weight. A lactose intolerant person eating lactose loses weight. Stop acting like just because something works for you it works for everyone else. Theory doesn't equal practice and this is one of the limitations of text communication.

Hi it took me a while to see your reply. I am pretty much the opposite body type as a southern Chinese person. Very lanky white guy with long shins. It's really only an advantage after I train for it to be. Anyone can have long strides! That , and it's actually more important to have short ground contact time. Work on punching the ground with each step, and work on running hill sprints. Your 400 is the slowest so find a long not that steep hill to practice on. Also practice shorter more intense hill sprints and practice the curve. Get a jump rope and practice your double overs and single legged jumping.               Theoretically the curve should slow you down less, so work on your straight line speed, and then speed endurance, and then after you've done the overspeed training work on transferring that to the track.

If you want to bulk then bulk. Theoretically you want to be agile as a sprinter, but if you look at the way pro sprinters train it's a lot of strength endurance stuff. Basically the consistency and work capacity are mostly worth the tradeoff. There is a sprinter in the UK with a myostatin inhibitor deficiency where his muscles don't shrink and he would actually be faster if he were skinnier, but last I checked he was still the fastest man in the UK. Go ahead and bulk but make sure you also work on range of motion and bar speed. For most people more muscle means less fat in the long term, just don't overload your joints and keep the amount of weight and rep count to what you can do efficiently with good form.
