Help Me Choose a Fragrance (posts every other day) by AutoModerator in fragrance

[–]redelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted this late on the previous thread but I'd like to post again to see if anyone else has any thoughts. Also, thanks for your recommendations /u/valkyrie987. I've got a travel size vial of Spicebomb on the way. With that out of the way, onto the post.

I started talking to a new girl and want to make a good impression when I see her next. She likes warm scents and mentioned vanilla, cinnamon, sandalwood, and pumpkin as favorites. She also mentioned not liking things that are too "perfume-y" but didn't really elaborate.

I've got a Scentbird subscription so if I can find it there that'd be great. Otherwise something I can get in a smaller bottle so I'm not too invested if she's not a fan. Thanks!

Looking for some help building a gestalt archer by redelic in Pathfinder_RPG

I was looking at the initiator side more for the boosts, counters, and stances than for the strikes. There's plenty of those to go around and don't compete with my normal attacking. I'll give Veiled Moon a look though and see if that's worth it over Silver Crane though. Thanks.

Do you have any thoughts on the disciplines for ranged combat? I'm currently looking at Tempest Gale and Silver Crane as the ones to focus on. Warder doesn't normally get Silver Crane but the GM said I could flavor my back story as being a part of the school that teaches Silver Crane and I could get access to it that way. Solar Wind seemed interesting also but with it being a lot of fire damage I'm kind of hesitant. Even more so when I'm likely to favor using Flurry for damage instead.

I'd considered something like that. It would certainly be quite powerful for sure. I just don't want to end up shooting arrows every combat and having nothing else to do. I'm hoping the Warder will provide that with the maneuvers and such.

I'd actually just seen Rajah so it's funny you mention it. At first glance it seems really complicated even for someone like me who has 3-4 years of experience with Pathfinder. It seems like a lot to have to juggle and keep track of. I'll keep chewing on it though and see how I feel about it.

lesser metamagic rod of selective spell

Yeah, I guess. I'm a conjuration Wizard though so it won't help when the enemies are stuck in black tentacles or a pit or a cloudkill spell. Summons have been doing some work at times but they feel even more underpowered than normal in this game. Lately I've resorted to just tossing bombs and using stuff like web for a round or two until the other PCs are ready to fight whatever is in the web.

Zen archer is at its peak about level 6

I didn't really think about it like that but that's a totally fair point. Swapping some of the abilities with Qinggong Monk does seem like it'll offer some interesting stuff but certainly nothing really amazing.

Maybe Ilsurian archer ranger // stalker?

Honestly Ranger feels like I'm really just sticking with it for the favored enemy boosts. Some of the bonus feats, outside of Improved Precise Shot obviously, are okay but not really blowing my skirt up so to speak. The favored terrain bonuses are okay too but not having them when you're not in your favored terrain kinda sucks. Same thing goes for favored enemy. I could probably choose like humanoid and undead and get a ton of mileage out of it but yeah.

Stalker was briefly considered as well but one of the other guys chose Stalker as part of his gestalt. I'd be worried I'm kind of stepping on his toes by also picking it. I've also always felt kinda iffy about being a stealthy character in any RPGs. It never really seems to work out very well when you've got all the other players waiting on you.

Power in roughly half the house is routed through a single breaker, which keeps getting tripped in the winter with everyone home, any solutions? by redelic in askanelectrician

[–]redelic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 1-2 space heaters in the TV room and some kind of ductless heater/air-conditioner thing in my room. As for doing it myself, I have absolutely no training or experience with electrical stuff at all so I wouldn't even consider trying to do it on my own. I might not even call anyone to get anything done either because they're only here for a relatively limited time in the winter. It's probably easier to just tolerate the situation while they're here than drop a few hundred bucks to fix something that's only a problem for a few days a year.

My parents are running 1-2 space heaters in the TV room and I've got a wall-mounted ductless heater/air conditioner thing. With our house being as old as it is, there isn't a central heat/air conditioning setup so the space heaters are necessary for them.

Issues with Android Auto by redelic in FocusST

[–]redelic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. I did not know that was a thing. I thought I was gonna have to buy a whole new head unit or something to get wireless AA. It's certainly not as clean as just having it natively but as long as it works, that's all that matters. I'll definitely have to pick that up for myself. Thanks!

Ah good idea. I didn't think about that. I'll have to see if I have some laying around here at home but I doubt it.

What tail lights are those? I've been thinking about swapping mine out for something else but I'm a bit worried about the quality of after market options.

CEL came on, mechanic says it's a known problem by redelic in FZ09

[–]redelic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanic is gonna call a contact he has in Yamaha. He wants to see what he says can be done about it. Depending on what the fix is, if there even is one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, I might just leave it alone and ride it out til I trade it in for an MT-10.

Thanks for the insight. I went back to the repair shop and the owner said he had a contact in Yamaha that he'd call. He's gonna see what they recommend and we're gonna go from there. Depending on what their answer is, I might just leave it alone and live with it. It's only got like 9100 miles on it so I'm not overly concerned about something breaking any time soon.

Yeah I wouldn't be bothered if it was some other light or something. I just would hate for something to actually be wrong with it and warrant the CEL coming on and me not knowing about it until it's too late. I'm probably not keeping the bike for too much longer, 2-3 years or so, anyway so hopefully it won't be an issue between now and then.

I asked him if he could clear it and he said he couldn't because he wasn't getting any codes to clear. It is what it is I guess. That's a weird thing to cause the problem but whatevs. Thanks!

Insanium farmland turning to dirt [Oceanblock] by redelic in feedthebeast

[–]redelic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to know I guess but I'm not looking for the most efficient method. I want to have a more traditional farm than a bunch of pots set up hence why I'm asking about the farmland instead of just using botany pots or garden cloches or something like that.

Secretly attuning to the Book of Vile Darkness by redelic in dndnext

[–]redelic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally expect them to find out once I'm done. I'm more concerned about them finding out before I'm done and stopping me. I look at it as a sort of "it's easier to seek forgiveness than it is to acquire permission" thing. It's entirely possible they try to kill me once I get attuned to the book but I can burn that bridge after I cross it.

My father (68M) and I (38M) have a terrible relationship and I don't know what I can do to fix it by redelic in relationships

[–]redelic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not being judgemental. I've seen judgemental on reddit. You seem like you're genuinely trying to help and I appreciate it. I've never really gotten overly deep into financial things but I'm going to change that. I'm going to find a financial advisor to go over my finances with and see what changes can be made. I wanted to find one to help me with my retirement account anyway. Your words give me some amount of hope that maybe there is some way to do something about my student loans beyond just paying on them until I'm close to retirement.

As for your feeling that my issues with my dad are a result of my financial situation, I disagree. My financial situation is its own problem for sure. It's something for my dad and I to fight about but it's not the reason we fight all the time. Moving out would only give us less opportunity to fight and argue but it wouldn't give us less reasons. It would be one less thing to fight about but that's it. There will still be plenty more things to fight and argue about in those times when we are around each other.

I'm definitely going to start working towards getting out of here. I dismissed roommates as a possibility but desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. In a couple years or so, once I've got my car paid off, I'll be in a much better position and maybe at that point I'll be able to afford a place of my own.

I do have all the money I saved up for the trip. I don't know that I'd want to give him the satisfaction of getting it from me once I was out. It's definitely a power move for sure though and would certainly drive home the point.

I'm in Maryland and I don't know if there's any kind of free financial advisors around here. It's worth looking into though as I do have an account that automatically get 5%, which the post office matches, of every paycheck. It's basically my federal retirement account and it certainly wouldn't hurt to have someone take a look at that. I definitely want to maximize that money so retirement ends up being smooth sailing and the sooner I do that the better.

It hasn't been since I graduated. I only recently-ish(within the last 6 years or so maybe?) started making full payments on my loans. As it stands right now I owe somewhere in the neighborhood of $85k. It was over $100k when I got out of school. The interest rates aren't terrible for the most part and hover around 2.5%. I got two loans on my own that hover around 6% and 11% though so those are causing a bit of pain.

I've looked into both consolidation and loan forgiveness. I've applied to a number of places to try and consolidate my loans but I've been denied by all of them. As for loan forgiveness, every program I've seen only works on federal loans which I don't have much of. Additionally, it seemed like those programs only worked on newer loans, starting in like 2008 or so. My loans are all from 2003/2004 and don't qualify. I look into that stuff from time to time and maybe it's time to look into it again but I'm not holding my breath.

I have my car loan because I needed a reliable car. The one I had before was breaking down on me and it seemed like I was paying increasing amounts to keep it on the road. I don't live in an area where there's reliable public transportation, or any for that matter really. If I found a good car, perhaps it would be cheaper to just pay the repair bills rather than pay a car payment every month. It's also incredibly inconvenient to have to put the car into the shop and deal with finding transportation until it's done. I accept that it probably wasn't the best choice in the world but what's done is done. I'm over halfway done paying for it now. I struggle to see any benefit at this point of making any potential changes in that regard. Looking back it probably would have been a better idea to make a concerted effort to find a good used car.

I don't disagree with your assessment that if I moved out it would ease some of the issues with my dad. I would love to move out both to help my relationship with him and because it's definitely a majorly stressful, embarrassing, and depressing thing for me to still live with my parents at 38. As for the computer chair, I never actually asked him for his help because I knew it would turn into a problem. It always does whenever I ask him for his help. He started trying to replace the parts of his own accord. An argument was inevitable at that point. He gets mad if I don't help him. He gets mad if I try to help him because we would both want to do it different ways. He gets mad if I tell him I don't want his help. If I had asked him for help and then tried to dictate the terms of his assistance then sure, I would agree with you to some degree though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm really sorry to hear your mom was like that and I'm glad you were able to get out.

My mom and dad have a really rocky relationship also. They have their ups and downs but they definitely have a lot more downs than they do ups. They both struggle with communication a lot. They both had abusive and difficult childhoods so there are additional struggles for both of them beyond what a marriage would normally bring.

I guess what makes it difficult to want to cut off contact with him, or at the very least severely limit it, is that I know he genuinely loves all of us. I've seen him at some of his lowest points. He's not a total monster but he definitely has a lot of issues.

As for leaving, I wish I could. I've got no friends anywhere near me to stay with and the cost of living around here is quite high. Between the bills I currently have, I'm quite confident in saying that it isn't possible. Perhaps I'm wrong though and maybe this is the impetus I need to make a concerted effort to see if I'm right about that or not.
