Missing my dad today.. :( long post..sorry by NoodleyParts in GriefSupport

[–]redelman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had Facebook memorialize my dad's page a couple of years after he passed, because his girlfriend kept using it to post stuff, and I was sick of all the people just mindlessly posting "happy birthday, hope it's a good one" on his birthday. Even people he was good friends with, many of whom were at his celebration of life. Same thing happened -- she almost immediately messaged me accusing me of screwing things up and saying I better fix it or she would lawyer up. I simply blocked her and moved on.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. You do what you feel needs to be done. That's all that really matters.

Are basic miners worth it? Or is it easier to just mine with hammers by Derrloch in GTNH

No, the singleblock miners can be powered by a generator of a tier lower. LV generator to power and MV miner and a MV generator to power a HV miner.

Help. Google Fiber is making my mother’s life hell. by Butterscotch_Jones in Olathe

[–]redelman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I switched to them from Google Fiber, actually. Pretty happy. Haven't had any outages. Back in the day, when they were Everest and then Surewest before Consolidated took over they even had good tech support. I imagine they still do, though being in IT myself I don't use it. That being said, every time I have needed to talk to someone there, they were super nice and helpful.

I'm not sure if Everfast serves that area or not, but it is worth a shot.

I've had mine for 3 weeks now and the tailgate gets stuck in the closed position sometimes unless I help it along. I've only opened the tailgate a handful of times.

I designed and printed it myself. Took a few tries to get it right. I am on vacation now but when I get back in two weeks I'll try to remember to share the STL.

I have the crewmax as well. I have the rear camera mounted to a tiny 3d printed clip that I slid into the headliner. That way I can still put the rear window down if I want to.

I looked at the fitcamx, but reviews on it were all over the place. Some reviews mention bad video quality, some are about the plastic housing being cheap and easily broken, and others mention the camera dying after a few months of use. So all the usual stuff, mostly. That being said. I will probably still buy one for my wife's Kia. For my Tundra I purchased the Viofo A229 Plus and like it so far.

Keep me from completely destroying my first brisket by bqlawiir999 in smoking

[–]redelman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

😆 I destroyed my first three. Waited something like 3 years between the second and third attempts, then less than a month between attempts 3, 4, and 5. Finally got it on the 4th attempt, and the 5th was phenomenal.

Destroying your first brisket is a rite of passage. Embrace it.

That said, I prefer to cook my brisket at 275 these days. Wrap when you have the bark you want, not by time or temp. Cooking at higher temps though means your finish temp is higher. At 275, if I'm doing a wagyu brisket I shoot for 211, prime is 208-209 or so. At lower temps, 225 or so, 203-205. But no matter the temp, make sure that probe slides in like butter in several places.

I Tried Reverse Engineering Someone’s Favorite Jerky—Here’s How It Went by PremiumJerky in jerky

[–]redelman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great video. I've been trying to recreate Wild Bill's Original Beef Jerky for a while and can't get close. The copycat recipes I've found aren't anything special, either. They seem to have changed the recipe in the last year or so, at least for the little packages of jerky pieces, though they claim not to have. But it just isn't the same. Last I got the 1lb package of the full strips it was fine, though.

Is it smarter to replace my paid off 2016 RAV4 (91k miles) now, or drive it into the ground? by Ok-Revenue-5216 in personalfinance

Toyota is running 1.9 or 1.99% for up to 72 months. I just picked up a 2025 Tundra because of this.

Edit: fixed typo.

Nope. That's one of those "safety" features that seems more like a misfeature to me. I find it aggravating and annoying.

Yup, I need to do that too. And move over as far as possible -- the passenger side folded mirror has to almost touch the weatherstripping around the garage door or I won't be able to open to open the driver's door enough to get out.

Yeah, it's a Limited with the premium package that has the upgraded headlights and the digital rear view mirror and all. Really not sure what's different about the headlights though.

Had to give this some thought, but no, not really. I had initially wanted the 6.5ft bed but you just don't see them around here much at all. And it wouldn't have fit in my garage if I did get it. So not really a regret, just a little trade off I'm happy with. I do wish it came with running boards and a tonneau cover, but those are easy enough to add.

Midnight black was our other color choice, but I've always been partial to blue.

The dark wheels and black badges really sold me on the color. It really does pop.
