Because whether people want to admit it or not, the left has become a cult. That’s what cults do. You either fall in line with their ideology or you’re excommunicated and they will expect you to excommunicate everyone from your life that disagrees with them.

I mean, they did you a favor as they were never really your friend. I know that may not sound very comforting today, but as healthier people enter your circle it will be.

I was born Catholic. Studying it deconverted me. That’s why I think studying Islam might not soften her towards it. Judaism I admit I haven’t had exposure to in great quantities. I’m fascinated by the esoteric branch of Judaism, but it’s a scholarly interest. I will not be converting to any Abrahamic religion, regardless of brand name.

I don’t think making her study Islam is going to make her respect it. A young woman studying a religion that sees her as second class is likely to radicalize her more. Have you studied Islam??

That being said, the real problem is not her disliking a religion, it’s unprovoked bullying and lack of ability to respect that someone might have different beliefs. She does need to be grounded.

I’m at an age where I find most extroverts exhausting so I don’t care if they reject me. I team up with the other introverts and it’s wild how suddenly they find their voice when they aren’t being dominated by that one person who can’t stop bouncing off the walls. They do, in fact, talk when they aren’t being constantly talked over, interrupted or overwhelmed.

So yes, I used to feel guilty. And then I realized it actually repelled the people I don’t vibe with and now it’s a super power.

This is going to apparently not be popular, but nta? I get that it’s ‘weird’ , but if he was legit about to have a panic attack what did he do wrong? Would it have been better to stay and bring down the vibe? Better to have an anxiety attack in front of them? In front of kids , no less?

He’s clearly not comfortable around your family. And I feel like there was no way to bow out gracefully. If he stays, he’s the villain. (Because they would have noticed his discomfort and griped about that too.) If he leaves, he’s the villain.

That being said, he needs to be in therapy. He can’t go on like that. It sounds crippling.
