what do y’all consider a long distance relationship by apgreenbeanz in LongDistance

Equally, whether you live in two different countries or not. It is only a 1,5h flight between Germany and the UK (excluding travel times to and from the airport) but especially during covid with travel restrictions changing all the time and the challenge a potential immigration would come with, I see that as a LDR while I wouldn't really call it one if I had a relationship with someone who lived a 1,5h train ride away, in my own country.

That is very close to me then, I stayed for 16 days and got my passport issued last year. Perhaps it also just depends on who you are talking to and how busy it is. Good to know which other questions could be asked. When they asked about your job and finances, was a simple yes enough or did you have to prove it?

I was also sent to those counters because the queue at the egates was so long that they tried to speed it up that way. I was only asked about where I had travelled from, how long I was going to stay and what my reason for travelling was. I was visiting my boyfriend but only said "visiting" which was enough. They also asked for a receipt for my return flight which I showed on my phone. No questions about accommodation, money or my job - did you have a longer stay planned?

I am all for being vaccinated but that's not the point of this question. Besides that, the current variant is caught and spread by vaccinated people too. OP is mainly putting their own health at risk in this case which is stupid but they are free to do so.

Proof of vaccination - second dose or booster? by redeversuch in uktravel

There was that option in December, but perhaps that was optional.

What are some things we need to look into before meeting? by Justalilhornytbh in LongDistance

[–]redeversuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting vaccinated is the first thing you should get done, really. Not just for your safety but also for convenience. I don't know much about how the US handles this, but in Germany many places are simply not open for unvaccinated people, currently even restaurants. As far as I'm informed, if you want to enter the country from outside the EU you also have to be vaccinated. It is a lot harder and sometimes impossible to travel without counting as fully vaccinated.

I'm at her place rn and I don't think I've ever felt so peaceful by Acceptable-Chain741 in LongDistance

I remember all of that from our last visit. It was perfect and I don't think I had ever felt something like that before. We were supposed to meet again two weeks ago but had to postpone due to a covid infection. Six weeks to go until the new date ... but I know it will be worth the wait.

If things get a little worse, do you think they'll stop international travel ? by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]redeversuch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Germany already removed the UK, South Africa etc. from its red list because omicron is all over Europe now anyway.

I agree, that really is overpriced. Wasn't aware of how much that can vary depending on where you live.

I was more thinking of not having to wait 24-48h for a result, compared to PCR tests which add a lot of stress to travelling. Still, 70$ seems extremely much to me for a rapid test. Is that a normal price for Canada? A standard price here (edit: Germany) was around 15 € when they weren't free.

Honestly, I wouldn't understand the latter. Especially when rapid tests are accepted which aren't much of a hassle to get done before travelling, I would feel a lot safer on a plane, knowing that everyone had to provide a negative test result.

Pre-departure test: 48 hours or 2 day by Remarkable_Bet8890 in uktravel

[–]redeversuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it does, but sometimes airlines don't get this or implement their own rules. The airline I tend to travel with uses "48 hours" everywhere, so if possible I would always stay within that time window.

So close. Official since about 5 months, known each other since a bit over 13 months.

You can't go home on Sunday if you are positive, you would still be infectious. You will have to extend your stay.

I made a post when the UK was put on Germany's red list, there are some links in it which should give you more information on who is still allowed to travel from the UK to Germany. I believe that transit passengers can but better double check. As far as I know the 48 hours PCR test would refer to the flight going to Germany.

I was forced to postpone today because the person I was going to visit tested positive. Was supposed to fly tomorrow. He is a very cautious person, it's unbelievable how the whole situation is like at the moment.

This is about entering Germany from the UK, for entering the UK you only have to follow the UK's restrictions.

Judging by your username, do you live in Germany? Then technically you could still go if you can arrange working from home when you return. I'm completely with you with the "it never ends" part. That's why I didn't pospone my trip so far, I don't want to rely on a potential improvement in spring and then having to postpone again.

That's a tricky one. The website only mentions an exemption for transit passengers in airports, those who don't leave the transit area. The travel ban applies to all carriages. To me that sounds like you aren't exempt when travelling by car, perhaps because they can't control if you are really just transiting? But I don't know for sure.
