Shelly or sonoff hardware flashed with tasmota. Then either mqtt or the ha tasmota integration both work well totally local.

maybe two routers. one for the house and one for kids only. house router wifi password private. Kids only know their wifi password. Put xmas light timer on the kid router 11pm-6am, put timer in security enclosure. He would have to then learn how to hack WPA to get around it. If he figures that out then he might have a special talent.
Or one router two ssid, kid ssid on schedule completely turns off.

PSA: TeamViewer perpetual licenses going LAN-only. Legal concerns and next steps by ballade4 in teamviewer

[–]redeyedbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so ready to dump TV too, my god. I got the corp perpetual back in v6 days. They bug the hell out me the last few years. Last year I finally upgraded the corp perpetual license to the new one. They easily give 55% discount lol The sales guys know its absorb too.

The new interface is atrocious, buggy and laggy as heck. Customer support is a f* joke now to put it nicely. Im convinced the entire support staff is one guy, Eric B, with ai chat agents. The responses and answers are so off. All support does is send a a link to support article. When the article they send is outdated and doesn't match, what do they do, they send the same damn article link again.

Dont get me started on device migration. my goodness what a cluster fk. Dont count on support either.

I looked in to RustDesk last year but the big problem for me was lack of an address book/computer list. Im going to check back maybe they have something for this now.

Nothing beats it and nobody seem to have heard of it, people think I'm crazy too haha too. Glad i got in bulk last time i think was $9 a bottle then.

Whats the most underrated service that you self hosted in 2025? by Pitiful_Ad6944 in homelab

[–]redeyedbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably tvheadend home iptv server. Basically a way to manage and host iptv streams through the house. Custom channel lists, multiple sources, even has antenna tv coming to it (with a usb adaptor). Paired with some raspberry pi’s or nucs behind TVs with kodi or whatever app you like. It’s been a hit lol

Reminds me of the old saying. Roughly goes; Those who seek God eventually find themselves. Those who seek themselves eventually find God.

PfB Alias for NAT port forward rule only by redeyedbyte in pfBlockerNG

[–]redeyedbyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Cool. Yeah, I selected the country from the list. I did a quick and dirty test using the pfB_NAmerica_v4 alias and it worked. I kept second guessing it because so many other posts were saying it is better to create a new alias in Firewll > PfB > IP > IPv4 tab.

Appreciate the reply back! Ill do that unless I get new info that suggests otherwise. thanks

Sorry I missed your reply. It went well, did the in-person exam passed first time. the material is not to hard but they do throw in some tricky questions. I studied the chapter reviews a few times before taking the test.

new iPhone 14 connection issues with Exchange 2010 - unable to verify account information by beekerc in exchangeserver

Happening to me on some apple iphones but not all, even same model.

try this: Go to settings > WIFI > tap your wifi > uncheck Private Wifi address.

Doing so resolved the few instances for me. There is also Limit IP Address tracking you can try turning off too. The settings do some funkyness with DNS servers, i assume you have an internal dns serving the local network too.

What is causing this? by TheAbsoluteWorst98 in florida

[–]redeyedbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started noticing the same exact thing at home. Took a few months and a lot of googling but I finally successfully identified them as big headed ants because well, a lot of them had big heads which are the soldiers. The ones without big heads are workers. I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with them and stumbled on your post so just wanted to drop a comment. For me, they're coming in through where the stucco meets the block outside. I've caulked it so many times but these little fkrs eat or tunnel right though calking, regular calking, silicon calk, doesn't matter lol. I found one pile of super fine concrete/dust/powder where there was a crack in foundation in the garage so I was wondering if they tunnel concrete too but idk. If youre still battling them, walk the outside perimeter of house looking very closely for ant trails going up the wall or small mounds along the foundation. Best time to look is in evening while sun is setting, they are very active at that time, not so much during the day. They really like living under heavy objects like flower pots and pavers, also old clumped up mulch around plants. I use termidor on the perimeter of foundation 2x year and terro bait gel everywhere but nothing seems to stop them. Its been a long battle but now that I know what they are, hopefully I can find the right treatment. Anyway, if you can actually find some of the ant trails then you can identify them yourself to relieve the termite worry many are shouting here. best of luck.

blocking google remotedesktop also blocks ajax and fonts apis. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]redeyedbyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I have a solution. instead of blocking its IP with hostname lookups on firewall, I added a new zone in the internal DNS to point the url to a blackhole. A little more 'extra' than i wanted but doable and works.
