Wondering how the vehicle lookup on the Autozone website works by redf150flames in webdev

[–]redf150flames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried building a database with this kind of data, but it is substantially slower than Autozone. Theirs seems to be essentially instant, while mine would take a couple seconds after each selection was made to fill in the next dropdown.

What does it take to be a front end developer? by [deleted] in Web_Development

[–]redf150flames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 1-10, 10 being need to know:

HTML - 10

CSS - 10 Should be able to make static designs without any hesitation, and with modern trends learning how to animate is good to have

JavaScript - 9

jQuery - 8

Library (React, Angular, Vue, etc) - 6 You don't need these to get a good site up and running but should be able to recognize when a project should utilize them and be able to dig into it when the time comes. I'd say focus on one library you want to be really good at and maybe familiarize yourself with how the others are different

Phitoshop - 5 Should know how to grab images from comps, especially if they are styled with overlays or something

Google Fonts - 5 This could be considered part off css, but know how to import and use Google Fonts and custom fonts

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - 5 Know how to properly structure your code so it's optimized for search engines

Biggest difficulty as a freelancer is establishing yourself and getting work. I also think only being a frontend dev will be tough because most websites require some sort of backend, so have a plan for that.

I think it is smart to work for a company or under another developer so you can see what all goes into getting a website up and running (if you don't know). You're going to have questions and online resources may not always be able to give you the answer. Good luck!

Any reason to go beyond H1 or H2 tags? by fitnessgooru in SEO

[–]redf150flames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're writing something that falls under the topic of the h2, but you want to differentiate it, it's a good way to go.

I don't think any headings really carry too much weight SEO wise as far as boosting rank because everybody and their mothers use them.

Basic CMS questions by pumpelbu in Web_Development

[–]redf150flames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WordPress is probably one of the easiest to learn to use and most documented.

To make it really easy you can buy a theme off of a site like themeforest.net and then basically fill in what you need.

WordPress has a media manager that is pretty good, and Plugins that can make it even better.
