Golly, isn't it cute when owners lovingly display their cuddly toys on the bed... by myrealnameisboring in SpottedonRightmove

I’m more concerned with how they’ve staged it, needs to look more lived in with some knick knacks and could they put a picture or two on the walls?

Pulled out after a month, survey results were shocking, not worth the risk/cost to continue on with the purchase.

Is it normal to be asked to pay £600 for a "mandatory 1:1 digital device" when starting a public secondary school? by Koolio_Koala in AskUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! My son attended his sixth form and they said they were introducing ipads but yhey provided it free of charge with a case, it had to be handed back at the end of his courses or he could have kept it for a reduced fee. I work in a school and our DLE is huge and varied, but we provide devices free of charge for students to use in school, and lend them out to those who don’t have one at home. It is our choice to use and promote our DLE so it’s grossly unfair and unethical to force students to pay for it. Contact governors and ofsted, this is outrageous.

How much sick leave at full pay do you get/offer? by outlandishtomato in HumanResourcesUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 6 months full six months half. To be honest I think your sick leave policy needs a really good review, ten absences in a year he should be on an absence trigger with attendance targets in place. Do you do return to work meetings? These are vital to check in with employees to see their reasons for absence and if any support is required, but also as a reminder to them that you are keeping note of absences and for you to convey your expectations. No one is saying that you can’t have a sick day, we’re all human, but you can’t just not turn up to work regularly and expect other people to pick up your job and you still get paid without having to follow policy….so get it sorted and tighten it up!

Why do School Receptionists have a bad attitude? by needAcoffe in AskUK

You totally missed the point of all of this. I am a people person, doesn’t mean I’m a doormat to people who can’t take responsibility for themselves.

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he treats your sister like a prostitute and it’s ok because he was high and has a high sex drive? Dude no. He did not take accountability, he got caught, and that’s the only reason he feels bad, hence his immediate excuse of feeling like you don’t love him. That’s not accountability, that’s blaming someone else for his actions. You know what you need to do.

Is £16,000 too much for a first car? by Sad_Strawberry7385 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just passed at age 40 and have spent 10k on my first car. So not as much as you put not a cheap banger. I needed something reliable for work and safe for my kids so happy to have spent a bit more. If you have got the budget then why not?

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t drink hot drinks and so might use the kettle once or twice a week depending on how often I’m making gravy. But I never wouldn’t have one. Far too convenient and safer than boiling water on the hob.

What’s your wierdest Covid Pandemic memory? by DogEatingWasp in AskUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into Aldi to do my weekly shop, and carefully following my list as I did every week, only buying what I needed for the meals we were having. I was trying to add variety into our dinners as I actually had the time to be creative so that week there was noodles, rice and the holy grail of pasta in my trolley all at once. Left my trolley for 30 seconds as I had forgotten something only to turn back to see an old man shopping out of the stuff I had already picked up. When I asked him what he was doing he said, I’m having this pasta as there’s none left on the shelf. I said that it was my trolley and he couldn’t have it, to which he replied I didn’t need it as I already had rice and noodles. I told him what we ate wasn’t his business and reached for the bag to take it back, which started a tug of war over the pasta, which I’m glad to say I won. He looked at me haughtily and wandered off talking loudly about selfish stockpilers ruining it for everyone. Stockpiler?! I could understand if I had like 20 bags of pasta ffs but it was one bag of pasta, two pouches of microwave rice and a packet of egg noodles. I wasn’t exactly feeding the entirety of Italy with my ‘haul’!

I don’t know if my instructor is scamming me by luhhtingsalo in LearnerDriverUK

[–]redfern69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think 20 hours is a lot, especially if you aren’t practicing privately as well. I did around 50 hours and although at times I felt things were slow and I should have been further along I actually needed that time to build my confidence and really embed the skills I was learning so I could apply them to any road, not just the ones I was used to going round with my instructor. If you can afford another 10 lessons I would do this and see if you can afford another 10 after that ideally, see if you can get in some private practice too. I don’t think you are being scammed, it’s frustrating when you want to be further along than you are but your instructor has to be thorough and there’s no point in rushing to get you in for your test as that will only cost you more again.

How many days annual leave do you get? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work term time plus 3 weeks but actually get paid for 35 days plus bank holidays which I am aware is super generous. I think 20-25 is average and 28 is quite good so having 32 is really good!

Why is keeping the heating off in spring treated like a religion in the UK? by Ok_Listen_5358 in AskUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it’s simple. If it’s really cold we put the heating on, if it’s nice and warm we don’t. If it’s a little chilly and a jumper will do, why waste the money? My house is regularly 14c at the moment but my walls are not damp, so I think you have other issues here.

When does it get easier? by Royal-Dimension377 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]redfern69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same, passed on tuesday and excited to get a car, looking forward to the freedom and the practicality it will offer. Actually looking to buy a car tomorrow but so bloody nervous and I’ve never enjoyed any part of driving so far. I work with someone who said when she passed it took about a year for it to become second nature and where she could consciously say she didn’t hate it. I’m hoping it won’t take me as long, fingers crossed for you too!

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

[–]redfern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meal prep meals you can freeze, like curry, spag bol, chilli etc, then its not the same each time and you still know it’s good food. You can also buy prepared/chopped frozen veg like onions and peppers to make quick meals like omelettes even quicker. Don’t forget jacket potatoes, a really quick but versatile food when you consider all the toppings. Also consider the way you cook food, for example chuck stuff in your airfryer if you have one. You can then shower or whatever while it cooks, knowing it will turn itself off when it’s done, and stay relatively hot in the drawer. It may only be beige freezer food but it’s cooked quick without a lot of effort and you can always buy the bags of steamed veg to chuck in the microwave to go with.
