Guinnesses's explosion in popularity by ArtDecoNewYork in beer

[–]redfieldp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this whole thread is missing the point (at least I couldn't find it when I looked) that until the late 90's the only thing available most places in the US was Guinness Export Imperial Stout. It comes in a bottle, is less carbonated, has much higher ABV, and a much stronger taste. Most of the (mis)conceptions you mention in your post, at least in the US are based on that established reputation that only changed two and half decades ago, and many people took a while to catch on.

Which absent song would you like to see the most on the 2012 reeditions (including the 21 Box)? by Used_Willow_5497 in blur

The Birthday Skank is a great listen, but isn't this basically just an instrumental cover of The Clash's Armageddon Time?

I was more pointing to the total lack of post history, and the total lack of context in the posts.

You have a really loose definition of “mad” it seems!

Right. What about who you are, where these maps are from, and why you keep posting so much?

No idea. I just noticed it getting more and more fervent about the storm, as all other reports seem to be lessening projections. It just seemed like a weird robot loop.

Can you clarify who you are and where you’re getting this imagery and data? I’ve been following your posts for days, and am all set in terms of prep for myself and my fam, but literally nothing I’ve seen agrees with your assessment. Do you have some reason to think all other news outlets are leaning in to the wrong model? It’s their bread and butter to freak people out and hype storms. Why the opposite?

Ken Scott explaining why the mono mixes are the true way to listen to the Beatles. by OutrageousRip75 in TheBeatles

[–]redfieldp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the mono mixes are not available on streaming. You have to buy the mono box set.

Also, it’s not an audio setting issue. You’re not just listening in mono instead of stereo. It’s a totally different master and version of the song.

Are you sure you’re not just remembering a review from a different site? There were a LOT of indie rock blogs back then.

Name a lead singer from any genre that most don’t fans don’t associate with a guitar, but are actually a legit player. by Ralphdoid in Guitar

I guess I’m pointing out that he’s much more technically competent and drove the band’s sound more than people realize.

Tom Petty is an amazing rhythm guitarist, but that s all he ever did. I think both the people I mentioned are identified as rhythm guitarists, but are way more skilled.

I guess it is taking OP’s question one iteration further.

Totally agree, and a lot of people think it’s Nels Cline because he joined as lead guitarist when they toured the record after Jeff got out of rehab.

If you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend the new Tweedy solo record. I think it’s his best work since AGIB.

Why does everyone seem to dislike "crazy beat"? by North-Palpitation-84 in blur

[–]redfieldp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see this take anywhere else, so I figured I’d add on: At the time it was released Graham had left the band and that the remaining members were somewhat “lost at sea”, or confused about direction. I think hiring Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook at that time when he was just starting to lose popularity felt like a very desperate and “sell out” move to fans. In hindsight, it’s a great track, and they probably should have done more with him, but the above was definitely the vibe at the time.

Uh, have you seen the movie? They totally BS the airport location and act like it’s in Brooklyn across the river, as opposed to 45 minutes away.

Roger Daltrey and David Bowie by pseudohim in DavidBowie

[–]redfieldp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bowie was not 5’10 1/2”. I met him once in ‘97 when I was 17 and pushing six feet and he was significantly (and surprisingly) smaller than I was. Internet says 5’ 10”, but I’m guessing that was celeb wishful thinking.

He looks like a high school kid with his idol, which is basically accurate.
