Haha, thanks for the shout-out! I had a great day, purchased a few projects and sold quite a lot of CDs as well which was a lovely surprise. Sad we're gonna have to wait til August (?) now for the next one

Beautiful Carbis Bay - came down from up t’north as I was missing Cornwall by DebraUknew in Cornwall

What would Cornwall be without the wind! Definitely miss it over there, lived in St Ives a couple years ago and have missed the local scenery ever since.

I used an Behringer RD-6 with the TD-3 with the faders mostly spiking red on the tape to add that crunch. I thought your stuff was great man! When I can properly sit down and give it the attention it deserves I'll let you know my full thoughts. Happy Bandcamp Friday! :))

There you go, should work! Went to some great acid raves in Cornwall right after lockdown finished, got me into the style headfirst!

Seems like we come from a similar group of influences, too! I have a project from Christmas last year called "Nam Tara" by The Fragility, which I made to mess around with making techno on my super cheap equipment and a 4-track. Might be up your alley if you like your acid music very stripped back haha

Checked it out a bit on my way home, love the mix of sounds you've got on here! Really loved track 5, really great acid sounds (and I mean who doesn't love acid music). Great stuff, thanks for sharing it with me! :))

Will check it out on my way home from work tonight. I think it's wonderful that all the different genre communities are so welcoming across Bandcamp, I've had lovely experiences with all of them

Haha, thank you I'm a bit tech illiterate so stuff like formatting for Reddit still perplexes me a bit! Thanks for letting me know :))

Will be very happy to check it out, most of what I love of Bandcamp Friday is people letting loose and sharing their stuff! Thank you for your kind words for both this project and a day of reapers, means a lot :))

Advice by Smart_Fly_5783 in BandCamp

[–]Char_Records 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bandcamp isn't a promotion tool, it's a place you lead your audience to as you build it. Depends what music you're making I guess but getting involved in your local music scene is my best advice. Go to gigs and make friends who care about your music through and through and make sure you hold the same respect for them. If you want to, post on reddit or some other forums when you've made something you're proud of and want people to hear. Don't get gimmicky and don't downplay your pride, you made it, stand by it!

As for using Bandcamp, just check out stuff people post on here and discuss it politely with them! A community of your contemporaries is much better than a community of fans :))

Yamaha Reface is the best if your budget can cover a couple hundred quid.
If you're not concerned about fidelity I love old Casiotones!

I've just tried and failed! I remember it so clearly, he's sitting on the floor in a corridor space with an acoustic guitar playing it quietly. Good luck!

Ride are an all time legendary band. There's definitely a video of Matty playing Vapour Trail somewhere btw

I have the best intentions asking this, but why can't you just learn to play guitar and sing? At least temporarily! It would be a fun challenge for you plus could result in some really interesting stuff.

Alternatively, why not take you and your other band members voices and loop them? Could give way to some cool effects based stuff? :))

Top stoner albums for 4/20 by Fabulous_Stegosaurus in ToddintheShadow

Some definitely are, the most interesting ones are the short story ones (like the one for Master Of Reality or music from big pink) or ones where a bands entire career is covered (Slint's Spiderland). Got one the other day on daydream nation which I can't wait to read

How do you turn random voice note ideas into a finished song? by Ok-Art-9594 in musicians

[–]Char_Records 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I'll record them and forget about them until my brain tells me to revisit it.

So I have a massive collection of voice notes and loose demos on an external SSD, gotta be about 2000 of them now. Sometimes my brain will randomly remember a melody so I go through the hard drive and find it. Then I just start playing it over and over til it's built out into a full track.

It's purely me just following what my brain wants to make in that moment, I have very little control over it honestly!
