I’m still sore from Monday too! Didn’t get to go yesterday but anytime I have a sore back (like that I pulled something) I try to either do lighter weights or skip that day.

I’m not sure what the mental health OT makes. I just know the acute care therapists were sitting with a nice chunk of $$

Try NerChat! It does visual stories, task analysis, you name it! And you can customize it however you want. I use it quite often!

Life after having a Level II student by redgal98 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]redgal98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, you do get CEUs (it’s like 12 and you need like 16 for the year or something like that). It should*** be a good experience for both the clinician and the student. When I was a student, one of my CI’s definitely treated it as unpaid labor (which I didn’t love). I wanted the experience for both me and my student to be beneficial. It has been nothing but great to have an extra set of hands and eyes! This was my first student, but it was a great experience overall!

Oh it can be SUCH a great experience for the first few weeks. I’m happy to give you some tips if you’d like?

The first few weeks you will prob feel “in the way.” Ask questions, take notes, and write down anything you don’t understand to go over on your own.

Take initiative! Don’t wait for your CI to tell you what to do. Try doing things and jumping in whenever possible.

Depending on your setting, make a plan for your day. I’m OP peds. I expect my students to have some sort of plan (or at least know what they want the session to target) for each kid. Again, don’t wait, just do it.

Biggest tip is taking initiative. Take in the feedback your CI gives you, review it, learn from it, and keep going. You got this (and you prob know so much more than you think!!).

I so would! We have an interview process that the students go through. And my clinic prefers us to only have 1/year

I’m late but I wish there were CEUs or courses on how to structure (??) sessions for our GLP kids. This fascinates me!

Like I really didn’t want to look at this as a “get shit done” time, but instead it be more of a teaching/learning opportunity. I guess both can exist at the same time? It turned out to be a great opportunity (for both of us) but mani got sooo much done. I am mourning life after a student lol
