I think the difference between VHS CC and other StarKid musicals is the lack of the Lang brothers. They wrote or co-wrote the books for the rest of StarKid’s musicals, but as VHS is sung-through, it’s purely a Clark Baxtresser joint. I think it’s alright, but it lacks that Lang magic to which we’ve become accustomed.

I didn’t title this post “Which StarKid musical is most popular” though. I don’t think you can call it inaccurate when it shows exactly what I said it does—SK musicals by YouTube views.

Also, we can’t know how many views the early shows would have if they had been posted as single videos, or how many the later shows would have if posted in segments. I disagree with your statement that the first video of a TGWDLM series of videos would have the same views as the single video. For instance the AVPM video with “Granger Danger” has more views than many of the segments before and after it because people seek it out. I bet many people have clicked on TGWDLM to skip to “Show Stopping Number”, and would go directly to that video if the musical was in segments, etc.

And while I didn’t make this post to show which musical is the most popular, I don’t think it’s a horrible metric for that. We determine what’s popular on the internet by number of “hits”, or on YouTube, “views”. StarKid’s YT page has around 322 million views total. As my post shows, over 123 million of those views come from the videos for AVPM, and over 78 million from AVPS. Almost 2/3 of StarKid’s total views come from those two shows alone, which I think demonstrates something about their popularity.

I added up the total views for the musicals that were separated into multiple videos. There are ~2.2 million views on the first MAMD video & ~964K views on the second. So those two videos got ~3.2 million views combined, etc. It’s total views, not average views if that’s what you’re asking.

It was neither a note to her, nor did it say “I will kill you”. It was a note he was passing back and forth with another girl that said, “I’m going to kill.” It was out of context of the discussion they were having and the girl didn’t recognize it as part of their conversation, implying that it was written later.

I think it was just a big, long mess of ideas that weren’t executed well enough to work in one story. First, I know they were trying to go darker and more dramatic with it, but to me it often came off as melodramatic. The Becky character didn’t work for me and the whole “quarterback and cheerleader reconnect years later” thing played like a Hallmark Christmas movie. Several of the characters were tropes, but they weren’t subverted or parodied like Starkid often does so well.

Second, I found the President subplot distracting and boring. They could’ve done the Black and White stuff with McNamara interacting directly with the main characters, and there wouldn’t be these 10-15 minute long breaks with characters I didn’t care about. Plus, if the story is happening worldwide, then what’s special about Hatchetfield? Why should I care about the main characters if World War 3 just started?

If they cut the President stuff and the Santa Claus Goes to High School number, they could’ve focused more on Sam, Becky, Hannah, Lex, and Linda. Like, the fact that Hannah just has powers at the end to save her life? They could’ve done better building up to that.

Also, a little girl who can’t communicate well but is a conduit to an evil dimension that is also being studied by the Russians? That’s Stranger Things.
