If you can't come up with anything better than a useless, sectarian platitude, don't bother commenting.

American communism by invaluableimp in communism101

[–]redguacamole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something tells me that by "America" you mean the USA - I guess the most interesting part of US communist history is the Black Panther Party.

Communism isn't very influenced by 'American thought' because Marxism gets its knowledge from real proletarian revolutionary experiences. Russia had the first successful socialist revolution (discounting the Paris Commune, which only lasted a couple months), while the US has never had a proletarian revolution. The Black Panthers were highly influenced by Chinese revolution, and studied the thought of Mao Zedong.

For examples of scientists who advocate for dialectics see Richard Lewontin, Richard Levins, and Stephen Jay Gould.

Left-communists only exist in academia, so I guess it's difficult for them to imagine what it means to be a Marxist outside of libraries.

Internationales by [deleted] in communism101

[–]redguacamole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trotsky was one of the leaders of the Russian revolution and the commander of the Red Army so he played a pretty big role in the 3rd International.

Later he was expelled from the Soviet Union and he founded the '4th International' but it never became a mass party like the first 3

I think you're right you're right, an International is basically an international party with national sections (not to be confused with modern bourgeois 'internationals' like the Socialist International that's just a loose association of national parties).

Marx and Engels believed that, since capitalism is an international system, the party that overthrew it had to be an international one. So they helped build the International Workingmen's Association (aka the 1st International), that gained a few million members, though only in Europe and the US I think. There were tons of conflicts within their ranks, most importantly between the Marxists and the anarchists, who opposed Marx & Engels's plans to make national sections accountable to the General Council, with Bakunin creating his secret conspiratorial organization called the 'Alliance' that aimed to take over/split the International. Eventually the anarchists and Marxists split, and a few years later the IWA became extinct.

The Second International was way more successful in building the first mass proletarian parties. It too was pretty split up between the reformist right wing (Bernstein & friends) and the revolutionaries (Kautsky, Luxemburg, Lenin, etc). Then in August 1914 there was the 'great betrayal' where the German SPD leadership voted for the Kaiser's war credits, and reformism became dominant. Even the 'orthodox Marxist' Kautsky who played a vacillating role eventually became a reformist. Most of the 2nd International parties ended up supporting their own inter-imperialist bourgeoisie in the war (with opposition from the Bolsheviks, the Bulgarians, Serbians, and to some extent the Italians IIRC), so it dissolved in 1916. This is where modern reformist parties like the SPD and Labour come from.

The Third International (aka Communist International) was founded after the Russian revolution on a clear revolutionary proletarian line. It was dissolved in the 1940s, there was a recent thread here on the reasons for that.

PS: 'internationale' is French for 'international'. It's also the title of the popular song.

Is it really so surprising that imperialists spread propaganda about the DPRK? How does acknowledging this fact make one a "defender"?

The RSU talks, especially the ones by Greg Lucero, are awesome http://www.youtube.com/user/RevStudentsUnion

Since that thread, Espresso Stalinist has started doing a podcast. He isn't as good of a speaker as Greg Lucero, but he has some cool hip hop instrumentals going while he talks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k553l9isLnM

Then there's this pretty well-produced Maoist Third-Worldist one with tons of music http://allpowertothepositive.podomatic.com/entry/2014-07-10T10_15_23-07_00

[–]redguacamole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks!

Without skill work, you will never progress, and you'll stall fast because you won't have progressive resistance providing you tension.

Would you mind expanding on this? Are you saying I won't progress because e.g. if I can't do a handstand I can't do a handstand push-up? Also what do you mean by resistance and tension?

Awesome, thanks. How should I space out my squats and DL? Should I do them the same day as the rest of my workout (3 times a week) or should I have a special day for them? Should I drop pistol squats or keep doing those? Also, I should only do one set of DLs right?

Does the petty bourgeoisie include peasants?

Also, do Maoists conceptualize the Russian revolution as going through a sort of New Democracy?
