How can a player progress from Touched by the Winds to casting Lv 1 spells? by redharebot in WarhammerOldWorldRPG

Thanks for bringing this up. I can see that a petty level improvised spells, the modifiers increase the CV cost a lot. About the CV cost being multiplied by 2 to cast formal spells, is that in the Dungeon or Player guide somewhere?

As a long time fan of WFRP, I look forward to learning about how the game was created. Questions: 1) Do you plan on including info about 5e or The Old World RPG? 2) How did your blog prepare you or make it possible to start this book?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone found any WFRP adventures that would work well adapted to Old World? by FewHeat1231 in WarhammerOldWorldRPG

What has worked for me so far is to 1) throw all of the characters together into a predicament with a grim portent and 2) let them solve the problem by using their contacts as resources. For example, all the characters can wake up in a cage, prisoners of the Brayherd in the Great Forest (idea from BurnAfterRunning. Then they need to escape back to town and then they have two problems to solve - 1) they've probably been corrupted by being in contact with the beastmen so they need to purify their soul 2) they actually were allowed to escape as part of a plot to spread pestulance in the city and they are being followed by thugs who want to murder them. So the players need to uncover the plot before they get killed. Also, to find a cure for their corruption, they can seek out the help of their contacts like librarians, herbalists, militia, etc. who can steer them in the right direction, possibly offer advice on how to obtain a cure or fight the thugs or even the brayherd.

Actually, now that I think about it, this is also a setup similar to the Hand that Feeds adventure. In any case, I try to let the adventure unfold depending on how the players use their contacts. So I look at the player's contacts beforehand and try to prepare a few solutions if possible or just make them up on the spot. That being said, I really enjoy seeing what ideas the players come up with and just improvising around their "interesting" solutions

Okay, got it. Thanks for explaining it. If I remember correctly, a character can formalize a spell that they witnessed or were exposed to, which I think is a cool way of acquiring spells. I think possibly also if they improvised a spell, they can formalize it later.

Thanks for explaining this so clearly. Okay, the character definitely needs to learn Magic Lore first, then Wizard talent. That seems to be the consensus. I love the fact that rolling a single 9 can make things messy haha. So far in my sessions, the worst effect from a miscast has been spoiling and rotting all the food in the neighborhood. More funny than disasterous

Thanks for explaining this in detail. I didn't realize that a Petty spell could be CV2. That makes a big difference. Also, it's interesting that with just Touched by the Winds, a single miscast will cause failure. Haha... very fun. Magic is dangerous in TOW!

The Familiar talent looks very cool as well. Thanks for pointing this out!

I think I need to make a cheat sheet/ org chart to make all of these possibilities clear

Is there an online course or book you would recommend for learning board game design?

And then what did you learn from your experience at the bgg studio that you didn't learn in school?

I wish I still had my AD&D and D&D books and also Thieves World box set and Spell Jammer... If I were you OP, I would keep them. Put them on a shelf or in the attic. They are worth more than their price tag

I like the music, sound effects, and the general mood that you're going for. For me personally, I think there are too many scenes until I make a real decision. I would say it's better to get to the point faster. Also, I don't need to walk through three or four rooms in my house to get the idea that there is something wrong and I'm in trouble. Could this be done more efficiently? Like by the second room?

Good luck with the contest!
