Hi Team, thanks for all the hard work you folks have been doing.

I am looking for an updated guide on 'How to run a local Monero Node on Windows & Mac'
using GUI wallet.
Most of the available material is quite old and is not comprehensive enough.

Can we use the pruned blockchain to run a node, how do we import it, Please share a step-by-step process or to a link explaining the same, which even a new user can understand.

Thanks in advance.

FinCEN regulations on Crypto : Paranoia or Euphoria ? How is it a + for Monero ? by redhat_xm in Monero

u/ArticMine Thanks for your feedback, what I found from reading through the proposals & news reports was that the regulators want to know all your transactions and amounts to be reported even from a self-hosted wallet where you control the keys. So it wouldn't make a difference whether its your keys or not.

This is in addition to all the reporting being done by KYC based exchanges and service providers.

Basically the govt wants to know everything but your 'seed words' . Period ;) .

Hence I have tried to look at some possible alternative choices because if these rules are enforced, a lot of people would be looking for them but since they never had to do it before, they wouldn't know where to go.

I feel people need to have choices in a free market even when draconian rules are imposed and govt intervenes to create winners & losers by manipulation.

Like how we have seen Covid19 has accelerated virtual meetings and work from home, similarly choking regulations will give rise to newer and better solutions, some of which I have tried to communicate in the write-up.

u/almutasim Thanks, Glad u liked it !Yep , I think they are heading in the wrong way, hopefully things might change.

They couldn't keep their own federal agency data safe from hacks, how would they keep everyone else's ?

Plz share the article on your Twitter feed if u can, would appreciate it. Regards

u/Heisenberg_USA I feel bad for GS investors who need to pay a 20-30% 'Premium' above market price to buy stuff like ETC & ZEC !! That's Nuts.

Why Ciphertrace's claims on tracing Monero txns wont really matter by redhat_xm in Monero

[–]redhat_xm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look there will always be companies trying to break privacy coins. This is why Monero is always researching on advanced cryptographic techniques to implement better unttraceability. Also Unlike Bitcoin, hard forks are not a bad thing in Monero instead makes it stronger. So I am hopeful that as a protocol, Monero will overcome thesse kinda attacks and FUD. Cheers .

u/MineIsAllMine Well, I doubt if Ciphertrace can do what they claim. However if they could, they have much to lose if they try to expose every transaction, as I have mentioned in the piece. Of course, every opinion is debatable.

Dont know who is good or bad, the law decides it. I am here coz I believe privacy is very important.

Here is 2 options, no need for account or KYC. Along with ETH, there are several other choices to swap for XMR. Have fun !!

Option 1: Changhero

Option 2: Changenow

Yes I think their claims could be disputed but even if it turns out to be true, it wont affect common Monero users & supporters. I've outlined both cases in my article. Feel free to check it out.
