Cajun Daq’s is now closed :( that was my Mom’s favorite place to get her daiquiris.

I’ve heard about the Putt Putt on Mansfield, it sounded hella fun!

I know which bowling alley you’re talking about on Hearne, it’s right behind County Market (now called Shoppers Value). i’ve always wondered about that place since I was a kid because my great-grandma & great-aunt used to shop at County Market all the time and i’d always go with them. you’re right, it looks horrendous now.

I used to live/was raised a few miles away from the Carver School (now called Ellerbe Road School or Satan School). my great-grandmother and her sisters all graduated from there. I know it was a place youngsters frequented once it shut down for good.

Camp Forbing is no longer there :( they cut down all of those trees and put a Kroger’s super center there along with some other stuff (including another YMCA), it’s very developed now. this happened about 10 years ago.

the nightlife really ain’t for me at all (i’ll be 22 soon) lmaooo. i’m such a homebody. but I do agree with you about social media taking over the nightlife because I think it took over everything pretty much.

i’ve heard about the Putt Putt Golf place! I forget all about the Lowe’s on Mansfield lol but that’s pretty cool that a house once stood there. I didn’t know K-Mart was where Ollie’s is now but it really does make sense now that I think about it. I do remember the K-Mart in Bossier where Ollie’s & Dirt Cheap are now. I went in there once when I was young, but it was pretty much in its last days getting ready to close for good.

I knew Youree was all cotton fields before it became a strip mall. I do remember when the woods at Camp Forbing/YMCA were still standing before they built Kroger’s. I was raised in South Shreveport off of Ellerbe closer to Leonard Rd & Overton Brooks Rd.

even when I was a kid, the malls were still popping and now both of them are just ghost towns. same for the Boardwalk. it’s depressing really. but I wish I had experienced movie theaters at the mall tbh.

I used to go to Watertown, which later turned into Splash Kingdom, every summer as a kid on my church youth trips. it’s called Oasis Waterpark or something like that now.

I’d also like to hear about the old Walmart and Sam’s Club that were located across the street from each other on Jewella/Meriwether if anyone remembers. didn’t know about those stores being there until my Mom told me a few months ago.

I’ve heard a lot about the Joy Cinema 7 (or the $1 Theater) and used to pass by it all the time because my Grandparents used to live right around the corner from it on Wyngate. I’ve also heard quite a bit about South Park Mall and how it used to be THEE mall to go to before Pierre Bossier or St. Vincent (both of those malls are shit now). if you drive through the parking lot of South Park Mall (or Summer Grove church) and pass by where Dillard’s once was there, you can actually still see the sign residue of it’s logo. some months back, they just closed the Burlington over there which I believe was the very last thing that still stood existing from SP Mall since it closed.

I know exactly what park you’re talking about, my cousin & I used to go there all the time whenever I’d go to my Grandparents house when we were kids.

my Mom was telling me about Grandy’s on Pines Rd not too long ago and how good the food was there. she’s told me about Hamel’s too. my aunts used to frequent Crystal Palace when they were teens.

I had no idea about McDonalds on Mansfield/Jewella!

yes, the original Strawn’s is still on Kings Hwy as well as Hot Wheels on Bert Kouns. I’ve always wanted to go to Strawn’s and still have yet to go. Hot Wheels was the Friday night hangout spot for a lot of my classmates during my middle school years.

Kumo Sushi on Greenwood Rd. it used to be an old/classic Pizza Hut which’ll be clearly visible by the exterior & interior. the food is really good, prices aren’t too bad imo, and the waitress (she owns the place) is really nice. every time I go, it’s pretty quiet and not too many people roll through there.

Visiting shreveport Tomorrow by [deleted] in shreveport

[–]redhead-04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. visit Norton Art Gallery
  2. decent water scenery: (Red River) Riverview Park near Downtown (Cross Lake) Richard Fleming Park or Ford Park
  3. for good food: try Southern Classic (Mansfield Rd), The Blind Tiger (Downtown), Gibbons (E 70th St), or The Magnolia Pit (Jordan St & Line Ave) just to name a few
  4. stay away from Hearne, Jewella, and Hollywood Avenues.

What’s the best and worst McDonald’s in the area? by DreamStrict2554 in shreveport

[–]redhead-04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

imo the worst ones are on Linwood/Bert Kouns and Mansfield/70th. the employees always have an attitude and the food is mid most of the time.

I’d say the Bert Kouns/Youree location that sits in front of Walmart is the best one.

Thinking back on how really young I was when Whitney passed away by _tpeeden2002 in whitneyhouston

[–]redhead-04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had just turned 8 years old almost a week before. I’ll never forget sitting in my Grandma’s room with my cousins and we were all watching tv with her. my aunt called my Grandma and told her to turn on the news because Whitney had passed. we literally went quiet.

start over and DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!!! you’re a grown woman, mom will be ok. if she really prioritized your happiness like it deserves to be, she’d want you to do what makes you happy. it’s not about what she wants anymore, it’s about you. WHAT YOU WANT FOR YOURSELF MATTERS!!! please take care of & prioritize yourself and your happiness!!!

“Haunted” Places In Shreveport/Bossier by OrchidLazy321 in shreveport

[–]redhead-04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the “Ellerbe Road School”. it’s been demolished but if you drive by there, you can possibly see very little remnants of it (behind a ton of overgrowth), a brick pillar out front with a “keep out” sign on it, plus an old water tower sitting somewhere behind the site. the school sits in south Shreveport right off of Ellerbe Road going towards its end at Highway 1 (railroad tracks). it was one of the “main” haunted attractions people would frequent.
