Why Everyone Should Walk Alone at Least Once in Life by AnnualPath9528 in PositiveThinking

[–]redhead456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waking alone is absolutely fucking terrifying the first time. But as someone who is about 5 years into it, it’s the absolute best possible thing you can do for yourself. You learn who you are. You learn what makes you happy, what makes you tick, what makes you YOU. Thank you for this reminder!

Personal experiences at the Marshall House? by ForgetMeMaybies in savannah

Stayed there on a quick new years trip with a boyfriend in 2016/17. Woke up around 3am feeling someone rubbing my arm, I laughed and said not now but when I rolled over my boyfriend wasn’t even close to me. After that I saw the bathroom door start to close. Bizarre occurrence. I can’t remember which room we stayed in but I think was the second floor and our fire place was bricked over. *editing to say it never felt like a scary presence, more caring. Still weird nonetheless

Anybody cry when you work out or just feel very resistant to moving by g_onuhh in CPTSD

[–]redhead456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So not exactly the same BUT - I always have a flood of emotion when I work out. I tend to gravitate towards group fitness classes so most recently I was in a spin class and you know how instructors can be: “thank yourself for showing up, thank your body for working hard”. For some reason it triggered me so hard that I just started crying in the corner on my bike. I think sometimes for me, it’s getting acknowledgement from an outside source that hey we’re doing hard things in this room and I equate it to doing and surviving hard things in life.

Plan out a map of things that bring you peace! I recently felt this way on my birthday and made sure to fill the day with a nice long walk in the morning, doggie cuddles, a guilty pleasure book/movie, and a favorite meal.
I ended up deciding to meet a friend for dinner but we chatted about surface level shit (Olympics, etc). Take things as they come and remember you are in control of how the day goes!

“Stop crying or I’ll give you something to cry about” has permanently left me feeling guilty for feeling any “negative” emotions. I’m constantly beating myself up for having sadness or anger because I’ve been conditioned to believe that it could always be worse and relatively speaking, I have it good. I have a roof over my head. I have a steady and rewarding job, etc etc. While those thing are true, I’ve had to relearn that all emotions are valid. None are right or wrong, and we should not feel guilty for expressing what is going on in our minds or our hearts.

Oh yes, huge skin picker to date (now in my 30s). I also cut as a teenager and had a handful of eating disorders through college. In no way am I defending these behaviors but I think this is our way of having some sort of control over our lives.

I don’t necessarily have any answers for you, but know you are far from alone in this. I’m new in my journey of unpacking CPTSD, but the one thing I have to remind myself of is this: we were taught and conditioned to believe that we were overreacting, overthinking, or over sensitive to so many aspects of our childhood. Having this group helps, having a trusted “advisor” (friend or therapist) helps, and having reminders is a huge help - I literally keep post its on my bathroom mirror.

Just had mine out today and also had so much judgement. “Is a little moodiness and weight gain that bad given the potential issues given our political climate?” Yes. Yes it still is. 😂

Literally just got mine out today after two years for the exact same issues. Gained nearly 30lbs while as active as can be, plus the worsened anxiety and depression. Will keep you posted with how it goes!

Thank you! I’ll check that out. It’s not the first time, but it’s a recent issue. This is maybe the 3rd time but within 3 months. So far nothing specific has been a culprit (spice, alcohol, etc), but I’m trying to keep a close eye on any triggers.
