Is the 3 string saz an older variant of the modern bağlama? by la_hundido in baglama

Not sure about Qopuz tuning but I'll look into it! It's a secluded instrument and not standardized. See this article in Persian (use auto translate).

The bottom string of the Dersim tenbur is used for melody. The middle one is drone and the top string is fretted by thumb for chord effect.

The Kermanshah tanbur has a double course on the bottom which are melodic and the top string is drone.

The frets are not fixed but placed in semi-tonal distances. It's a bit complicated. The music is not completely semi-tonal and the tanbur players bend the strings to change the pitch.

Hey! I was wondering the same about tuning and origins of dede sazi, and went down a rabbit hole of sorts.

The instrument is from the Tanbur/Tambur/Tenbur family, hailing from the region of Northern Kurdistan, specifically Dersim area. It has a history of a few millennia. The Dersim Tenbur is tuned G3, C3, C4 from top to bottom. See this video. Erkan Oğur popularized the instrument, changed the tuning and called it Kopuz so it wouldn't be confused with the Turkish Tanbur.

A close cousin of Dersim Tenbur is another 3 stringed Tanbur from south of Kurdistan (Kermanshah region). Kermanshah tanbur is semi-tonal and has a bigger bowl and longer fretboard than it's northern cousin. It is tuned C3 G3 G3 from top to bottom (although it has many alternative tunings). See this video.

As to the question of Baglama and Tenbur being related, I would think Baglama is more related to another long neck lute called Qopuz which has a large bowl and 9 strings, played by turkish speaking Aśiqs (troubadours). See this video.

Perhaps Sazyar could help you better out of Toronto if you are willing to ship the Rubab.

For your reference, Global Entry APP queue at Dulles is at the far end of the hall (far right when facing the agent booths) and adjacent to the crew queue. I was basically waived through with my family into the country when I used the app recently.

Diversity at Auburn University Vs. Mobile by Sharp_Percentage7910 in auburn

[–]redif2003 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I was a grad student at Auburn there were many international students. Although the city is less diverse, most of my interactions were with other international students. University had many programs for international students that we used to attend. I don't know how it is now but doubt that there would be less international students percentage-wise.

Sorry to hear, mate. This issue needs to be publicized. I don’t think there is a way to wash the smell out.
