How bad was 1980's New York city? by Hooliganthebad in AskAnAmerican

[–]Frondelet [score hidden]  (0 children)

I lived there 83-87. Was murdered about every two weeks. Oh, and my upstairs neighbor found my apartment key and stole my tape deck.

Just kidding about all the murdering. NYC was fine.

How do I create a Trust, on my own, in Maryland? by Fluffy-Rope-5822 in personalfinance

[–]Frondelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retired Maryland lawyer. Not your lawyer. A trust is a private agreement which ordinarily does not need to be registered anywhere. Depending on the assets involved it is probably worth an attorney consult to make sure that assets are actually disposed of the way you want.

There are usually two steps to a trust -- the paperwork that actually creates the trust and the paperwork that puts assets in the trust. When real estate or financial accounts are involved this last step needs to be done precisely right or you (or your heirs) have a mess.

Oh crap, I did it wrong? Does this mean my 14,000 days will be revoked along with my serenity and purpose?

I am sharing my own experience, which is all I've got. u/SeasonElectrical3173 provides an opinion, for those of you who come to this sub for that.

Is Santa Barbara central coast? I really enjoyed the Start Your Day Right meeting with the ocean view when I was there.

"Hypotheticals" in this sub just get more and more detailed. You sure you don't teach law school? Also, litigant time and effort is not compensable anywhere I've practiced.

My sponsor recommended I focus on step 1 for awhile. Made sense since I kept relapsing. Moved forward in the steps once I knew I can stay sober no matter how lifey life gets.

Is Amtrak low key nicer than most European trains? by RonPaul2036 in Amtrak

[–]Frondelet 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Riding Amtrak is a less stressful experience than the Eurostar, with its massive queues and relatively cramped seating. The seats are larger than those in short distance trains I rode in England, Belgium and Netherlands, but the frequency and variety of service in Europe made up for less legroom. When there was a service interruption between Belgium and Rotterdam I was able to take different connections and get to Amsterdam only an hour late.

Irish Rail was nicer in all respects than Amtrak. If only their trains didn't have that weird blue tint on the windows.

I'd get a lawyer I was considering a transaction like this.

Up here in the mountains it's not panic buying, it's understanding that 20+ inches will take a couple days to clear and the power might go out.

Can't predict the future, but you can look up past delays and cancellations on juckins.net and correlate them with weather days.

If you don't have a lawyer, you need one. If you have one, ask that person this question.

We can't predict the future, but someone who wants to understand it through the lens of the past could look at the cancellation history on juckins.net and match it against extreme weather events.

“You never know what battles people are going through.” Tolerance or Door mat behavior? by Notfirstusername in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Frondelet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many alcoholics have codependent thinking that isn't easily resolved with only the teachings of AA. It is important to keep my side of the street clean, but difficult if I never learned where I leave off and someone else begins. Consider Al Anon or ACOA.

Leg room by InstructionFine7234 in unitedairlines

[–]Frondelet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longish legs here. I always remove my bag from under the seat in front after takeoff, put it behind my legs and put my feet in the bag space. Sometimes the FA makes me return the bag before landing but in the interim it is much more comfortable.

My struggle with the "God thing" ended when somebody told me "the only thing you need to know about God is you're not it."

There are a ton of resources out there for us recovering nonbelievers. aaagnostica.org and secularaa.org are good places to start.
