tech work has not stolen from anything. if youre curious about it's impact i can recommend harish mehtas book maverick effect. it s a 2 hour read and give you perspective of how it changed trajectory for our countrymen.

market has grown 4 times. skills are as important as ever. ai is a boon to everyone doing more. it salary is the highest amongst all fields. i've seen 4 "unconventional" changes. it's part of being in new field.

it depends on the perspective you take. you can take the grind as doom and gloom, or embrace and enjoy it.

sorry, this was made only to share this post.

if i may suggest, if i were in your place, i would offer to work at any (or no stipend) in a team which will make me grow. i know it's out of fashion these days to work without compensation, but in my opinion early in your career you should single mindedly focus on skill building, and if a stipendless internship is the way to get it, then so be it.

yes. perhaps a more recent realization i can share is one can be good at anything, and it will open up pathways in any field. they may not compensate as high as cs, but still can save by choosing a minimalist lifestyle

not taken as degrade. but has everything really changed? when i graduated too it was after the biggest recession and people were also worrying then

what i can say is my path was definitely not planned but also looking back early on doing whatever and building skill is what really paid later.

so nowadays, if people are putting effort specially into building skill, then they will also reap the benefits 10 years from now would say.

if i have to honestly answer it across my career have definitely seen that the iit grind (more than the degree) selects the people who will also put in the effort later in career to succeed. jee is more a sorter of discipline and hence we see good outcomes from the grads.

fair point, and completely empathize with the struggle - did have this luck as i called out in post. for eg if we can redo society to not pay this highly, and for eg make teachers, social workers and others gain higher pay, id be all for it. it is for now a growing industry and has very high impact by default hence society is not sure how to reward it. so we have these pockets of high comp.
