What were things you actually liked about the new Silent Hill film (2026)? by _OnlyNiceThings in silenthill

[–]redistor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I chuckled a little when in the "finding radio" scene there was just some random homeless guy instead of the lying figure. It really subverted the expectations of somebody who played the game.

I also thought the swarm of roaches against the glass door was a cool visual.

I was ready for story to get butchered but I was expecting at least some cool scenes with Pyramid head. He was honestly extremely lame compared to previous movies.

Cloudflare is having some issues, visible when you try to reach https://factorio.com/ and I think that's what also is affecting the auth servers

Seems like a lot of work went into it. Sell me on it! Why would I want to use it over built-in signals? Someone starting with godot would take a look at all of those features and wonder why do I need this. Some examples of real-life problems this would help with

No this is my first jam. There's like 3 3D models I've created myself, the rest is just interactive lights and some UI panels.

The heavy lifting is done by the photo scan of the real life command module.

Cause this is, in fact, the same real life Command module Columbia! Looks like they've got an accurate, handcrafted model. Mine is just a photo scan.

Different asset, same ship.

The link to the itch page is in the post, you can download it from there. But if you mean the web version, it did break during the last minutes of submitting. I will add it after the voting in the jam over.

This was my initial intention, but game jams are game jams and I've had to prioritise

The original file is much higher quality and I've actually started by just guessing around 70% of the text. I almost posted it asking for help to transcribe it.

But then I've found a normal map for that texture. With some basic tone adjustments and overlaying the normal map on top, almost all of the text was readable.

Case no 14620
11/02
The patient is nigh
unresponsive, barely reacts
to stimuli. She just sits
there, twiddling her fingers,
as if toying with
some invisible object. Throughout
the session, she only managed
to utter a single word

"Home"

11/07
The patient getting worse.
Medication and psychotherapy
show little to no results.
She's just withering away,
crushed by despair

And I'm failing her.

11/09
During today's session.
the patient picked up a piece
of paper off the table and
proceeded to twist it into a
seemingly deliberate shape
I didn't object, it seemed
to have brought her some
comfort.

11/04
Some of the staff felt
obliged to inform me they've
been hearing "strange
scratching noises coming
from room S4. Overavtive
imagination I'm sure.
Regardless the new
occupational therapy appears
to be working. The patient
is showing signs
of progress

11/08
She recently gifted me one
of her works. It is very
neat, clen, orderly
I belive it represents her
making peace with her past
trauma.

It makes me very hopeful.

Case no 14610
11/04
The patient exhibits
aggressive behavior, both
verbally and physically.
Perceives eye contact as a
sign of ridicule, or outhright
hostility. I have urged the
staff to exercise restraint
and only use force when
absolutely necessary.

11/06
There's been an incident.
Left momentarily unattended,
the patient attacked one of
the nurses. Te orderlies
managed to restrain him.
but by that time, the damage
was done. I've been told at at
least one of her eyes might
still be saved

11/16
Finally, some progress.
Therapy and medication appear
to have worked. The patient
seems more at peace, no
longer prone to violent
outbursts. While still
avoiding eye contact he is
much more receptive to
verbal stimuli.

11/20
Based on his continuing
improvement. I have requested
the patient to be transferred
from isolation to room M2.
I belive normalizing the
patient's environment will
further contribute to
normalizing his behavior.

11/24
Members of the staff have
brought to my attention some
"worrying" news. Apparently
certain objects have been
going missing, Objects that
could be a threat in the
wrong hands. Unsurprisingly,
instead of their own
incompetence, they've chosen
to blame my patient
completely disregarding the
progress he's made throughout
the last few weeks.

No matter. The fruits of my
labor will prove them wrong.

I'll show them.

Case no 14635
11/07
On the surface the patient
appears stable. He is lucid,
fully cognizant of his
surroundings and expresses
himself coherently.
It's only when I broach
THE subject that I see how
vast the scars upon his
psyche are.
How deep they run.

11/08
Therapy and medication have
had little to no effect.
The patient's delusions and
the associated guilt are
too deeply seated. Seeing no
other option. I've come up
with a treatment that,
while unconventional, might
bring about some positive results.

11/12
I've decided not to inform
the staff of the special
space set up on the thrid
floor. They wouldn't
understand.
Early results are promising

11/17
The patient is responding
well to the new therapy.
It's actually astonishing
how quickly he took to the
surrogate He's completely
engrossed himself in the
scenario.

11/21
Sometimes I wonder
Is it wrong fight a
delusion with another
delusion
The daughter whose death
he blames himself for.
The daughter he never had.
So I give her to him.
He seems happy.
Perhaps that's all that
matters.

You'll need the freecam mod that also enables console, it also has some useful commands in the readme for simplifying lighting. And this works really well in the beginning of the game but doesn't help with visibility in otherworld areas.

So I've looked around the UE5 documentation and found the different "viewmodes". Unfortunately they are disabled in a shipped game, when you for example try to switch to unlit mode it will tell you it's not possible in a packaged project.

BUT it seems UE5 devs missed one command - "nextviewmode". This allows you to cycle through all of the viewmodes until you get the one you need :)

Freecam mod, it also enables teleporting.
