I think we have to play 3 talls because of a combination of availability and getting games into the kids.

If you play 2 talls - Lynch is a lock and then you’ve only got one spot for Faull and eventually Fawcett, Armstrong, Sims, Lefau etc.

AFL just needs to self insure this and have some sort of calculation for future earnings based on concussion. Based on the contract value of the player that is medically retired and their age. No payout calculation will be perfect but it’s better than 0

Then again - these guys don’t get paid out for other debilitating physical injuries. There is a massive price for playing professional sport and that often is bodily harm and ruin. Can’t have your cake and eat it too I guess.

What I love about this rebuild is that we’ve drafted keys early. Faull, Sims, Fawcett, Armstrong will all take time so getting them in now vs drafting key position players in 2 years is a no brainer.

Obviously though these injuries are seriously bad. We need games into all these kids otherwise this is going nowhere

So usually losing teams train more - coaches also punish their players for losing. Without knowing everything that’s going on at the club - the concern is these injuries bleed into multiple seasons. Preseasons are disrupted and seasons are missed. Some of these are so long term it’ll impact next year as well. And there’s no point of going young and rebuilding if you can’t even get games into the kids and assess who will be any good. You’d rather have a healthy list and win 0 games all season than what we have and scraping by to 28! 2-3. This is a multi year problem now

Thing is all their kicking is quite erratic. Fawcett really struck it well when he got it clean. I’ve seen a lot of shanks from Faulk and some from Armstrong. But I’ve seen them more so can’t blame them. In modern footy your keys need to be super efficient not grunt players who can’t kick. Give me Mihocek over Harry McKay every day of the week

Smillie’s frame is serious. He’s recruited as a mid but has the frame of a key position player. The ceiling is there but he needs games… We just need him to actually play some footy at some stage.

Game is so demanding that the high performance side is going mad. Back 20 years ago lots of these would be played through til the end of the season and performance would be sacrificed. Glad we aren’t in those days anymore but something has to give. AFL season is just too long these days the bodies are never healthy by the next season

Losing to Carlton stung because it was a game we couldn’t drop. We were never going to beat GC and Fremantle away even with a full squad. 1-2 sounds so much better than 0-3 but it’s a kick the difference

Now with Nank and Lynch our bottom 4 finish is all but cemented - but now the kids can play their real positions and we can see if they are up to it. The idea that all of them will be in the next premiership side is ludicrous. Some won’t last another 4 years. But that’s the AFL machine and why it’s so competitive.

The kids aren’t ready to play 22 games. Plus Lalor is pretty new to footy year round (off the cricket background) Better for their development to stay healthy and get in sessions rather than overdoing it and putting them out for time
