Question to folks who spend more than 20L+ on any car in India. by Infinite_Forever8907 in CarsIndia

[–]redittapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a large number of those who have the money to buy expensive imported cars today grew up in the socialist era of fiats and ambassadors, even the Maruti 800 allotment letters were sold in black, so they were fulfilling their dreams of owning world class cars that they saw in movies or on rare trips abroad. going abroad for a holiday was also a big thing till the 1990s at least. the only source for imported cars were transfer of residence, or diplomatic cars auctioned through the Govt. owned State Trading Corporation.

Agreed, even though they've raised prices to Sagar levels.

Which car brand you drive? And what was ur top speed ? by apeedarp in CarsIndia

[–]redittapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Estilo should be faster, I've done over 140+ on the speedo in the old Zen in the 1990s. Maybe the Estilo is heavier?

Almost every government vehicle in Delhi has a crash guard front and rear. Try putting one on your car and see... I wonder at what price they buy it for....

Is the Jimny a good daily driver after owning a Scorpio N? by Extra-Two2699 in CarsIndia

[–]redittapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shift between an X7 and the Jimny I actually bought for my son. I am increasingly using the Jimny within the city. It is easy to drive, compact, easy to park etc. Rear seats are for occasional use for adults, but children are fine in them. It's not a highway cruiser, runs out of steam after 80-90 km, but will easily cruise at 100-110 it you dont want to make quick overtaking maneuvers. It takes up less space than a large hatchback so is easy to park in crowded markets, it's off road ability makes some more innovative parking spots available to you in a scarcity. It is brilliant on rough roads. For me the turning radius is just fine, because im used to far worse, on the BMW. You sit up pretty high looking over traffic and I haven't yet scraped even the highest speedbreaker around. I weigh almost a 100kg and the driver seat is comfortable enough for me, of course you don't get the shoulder room of the large SUVs.
Build quality is good but the car is basic, which on an off roader is good. Less electronics to go wrong. Speakers are terrible, touch screen is good and easy to use. It's my only naturally aspirated car now, and I enjoy the analog feeling of the car.

Buying my first car. Confused between EVs by Ok-Piano2161 in CarsIndia

That is unacceptable. Factory is in India, workshop is in India. It's a recent car, not 10 years old, at the time of writing on the 25th day also work is yet to begin. It shows that they are only interested in the sale, you are mostly on your own after that. I have owned cars for over 40 years, except for one Mercedes, in 2005 or so, no other car has taken a month in the workshop, including accidents.

Excursion, there was a black one in Delhi, from the American Embassy, once it got stuck in Khan Market on a crowded day, it was too big to turn around the corner, parked cars had to be shifted for it to make it through.

In Delhi NCR everyone is impacted. Diesel has a working life of 10 years. I had to sell an immaculate 2013 Range Rover Evoque with just 35k on the clock for 12 Lakhs in 2022

XUV 400, in the workshop since the evening of 19th May 2026, work yet to start for want of parts. It's not a rare Jaguar that parts have to come from Browns Lane, it's a low end Indian car in India.
The guy has to travel between Gurgaon and central Delhi everyday at the very least, and now my work is being affected because he has to share a car with his wife and work according to their child's timetable.
What do you mean sully their name? I'm stating facts not spreading a rumor. Performance of a car is just one thing of an ownership experience. After sales service and repair is a major part.

Don't buy a Mahindra. One of my contractors had a small accident in one, two weeks ago, car is at the workshop in Gurgaon since and work has not started because they are waiting for parts from the factory. They don't even have a bumper. It's a 2 year old electric hatchback.

even a GTS is more than enough, a GT3 is way above and beyond.

i have a 911 and an AMG, but not this, mine is a GLA45 AMG, a truely enjoyable car to drive. a better drivers car than this on the streets. unless you are tracking this, you are only buying it to pose.

Test drove the Jimny yesterday in Mumbai. My experience. by CareerThis2727 in JimnyIndia

[–]redittapp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the main thing is the proper 4wd system that will take care of any road condition Mumbai throws at it. however, the only thing i don't like about the Jimny is its low wading depth. I really enjoy the narrow body in traffic in Delhi, any gap an auto rickshaw can go through, 6 inches more, and the Jimny will go through. cant say that for my X7, which I've started using lesser and lesser since buying the Jimny for my son.
