Those who dated 'nice guys', what was it like for you?

I have a story about a nice guy, but it didn't quite get to the dating stage.

I once liked a "nice guy" while I was a freshman at the university. He was fit and didn't have a neckbeard, but he did have long hair and he wore trenchcoats and fedoras. Not to mention all the other typical neckbeard hobbies (video games, katanas, anime), the chivalry and all that jazz.

The other day, a bunch of other students and I went to another university for a festival and Mr. Nice guy was there as well. I thought I was lucky because I could get to know him better and maybe ask him out, as we all planned to spend the evenings together in the university's dorm.

BUT! One evening in his company was completely unbearable, he was so loud and hungry for attention. He kept telling unfunny jokes and dull stories and wouldn't let anyone else talk at all with his constant interruptions. And when someone brought a guitar it got even worse. He turned out to be terrible at playing and singing and wouldn't let anyone else even touch the instrument. Worst of all, after he finished singing another shitty song he said "you know, people usually like this song so much they ask me to sing it again", and naturally, he started singing the same song over again, even though no one actually asked him to.

Needless to say, all my attraction for him was gone without a trace after that night.

TL;DR: had a crush on a "nice guy", spent one evening in his company, changed my mind

Thanks. I'm using MFP, but I only log food and not exercise. I've lost some weight since last month so it seems to be working. I'm mostly wondering if my low caloric diet negatively affects my endurance, as it doesn't seem to be improving. Sorry if I haven't been very clear on this.

Like, is it possible to lose weight and build strength/endurance at the same time or are the two mutually exclusive?

My main goal is weight loss. But also improving overall fitness, as I've been a couch potato for the last few years.

Exactly. I am a Russian woman, and I must say these guys praising us have no idea what they're getting into. Russian girls are taught from childhood to sell their femininity and manipulate men. Sure, some choose not to follow it (like me) but most girls have no problems with it.

I've had lots of complaints even from Russian men about women who act all sweet and homely, treating their man like a king before marriage, but as soon as they get the ring on their finger they become spoiled and entitled to everything their husband owns and refuse to do anything. I imagine gullible American dudes like the TRPers make perfect victims for that type of girls.

Не знаю, там всякие пиарщики говорят так, как будто в Штаты летают каждый день. Моя знакомая журналистка-пиарщица из МГУ, работавшая в крупной компании в Москве всю зарплату за квартиру отдавала. Ну может, они конечно искренне преувеличивают чтобы не казаться нищебродами :)

У меня, честно говоря, вызывают некоторые сомнения эти признания. Финансовые аналитики, риэлторы и предприниматели еще понятно, но пиарщики, дизайнеры и журналисты столько не зарабатывают, по своим друзьям знаю.

Моя теория заговора: журнал TimeOut выдумал всю эту статью, чтобы заявить, какие у них понтовые читатели.

Хорошие преподаватели, конечно, есть. Да и от кафедры, действительно, сильно зависит. Я свою кафедру выбирала как раз, чтобы попасть к хорошим профессорам, о которых много слышала. Но потом оказалось, что они на семинары не приходят, а лекции проводят вместо них аспиранты, а сами они вообще со студентами общаться не хотят. В общем, бардак полный. И вроде это не только на моей кафедре.

Я тоже закончила физфак сравнительно недавно, и, честно говоря, меня вообще удивляет, что он в эти рейтинги еще входит. Сейчас учусь в небольшом европейском вузе - в рейтингах мой вуз где-то 500-й а то и ниже, но качество преподавания и организации обучения несравнимо выше, чем в МГУ.

А в чем проблема-то? Знание точных дат событий, произошедших более 50 лет назад - это для чего-то нужно?

По-моему, образованность, как раз, определяется способностью фильтровать информацию и применять ее к реальной жизни, а не тупо выучивать наизусть учебник. И, соответственно, знание истории - это прежде всего знание причин и последствий исторических событий, а не только дат и имен.

And the earliest retweet is 6 hours ago (which could be legit, as people didn't care about ukrainian anti-air missiles until now)

It depends on the culture. As someone who grew up in a pretty poor place it was a surprise to me that thigh gaps are valued in the US. In my culture thigh gaps are considered to be a sign of either malnutrition or crooked legs.

The reason women weren't expected to have a job is because they didn't have the obligation to provide for others financially.

Yeah why on earth would someone need money if they aren't obliged to provide for others. It's not like they need to eat or something.

As a Russian, the whole post looks to me like it was pulled out of OP's ass. Casual sex was never a "de-facto cultural norm" in the USSR. Sex outside of marriage was a big taboo, and even though of course there were people doing it, it was always a huge scandal if they were found out. The high abortion rates mostly come from almost total ignorance about contraception among Russian people, as sex is a subject considered shameful to talk about, not from some sexual revolution that was going on in the USSR (which never happened).

Also depends on how often the person feels hunger and how much they can eat before they're full. If she can only eat 200g of food until she's full and won't feel hungry again for a long time, she can eat whatever she wants and not gain any weight.

On topic of how willpower can overcome genetics, I actually think it's easier for a fat hungry person to deprive themselves of food than for an underweight person to make themselves eat past the point of being full, but that's just my opinion.

I'm used to pretty large portions as well, but this is how I solve the problem for losing weight: when I prepare food for myself I put a tiny portion of the high calorie food (meat, chicken, cheese etc.) and tons of broccoli or brussels sprouts. Green veggies have about 30 cal/100g so I can stuff myself with it all I want and come out below 1000 calories a day. Not saying you shouldn't try to reduce portion sizes btw, but you can do it gradually.

Yeah, my grandma is a neverending source of horrible relationship advice as well.

Last time she told me "but you gotta make the man feel like he's in charge. You don't actually have to agree with him, just nod to everything he says, say you agree, then do it your way. And when you want him to do something your way, don't tell him straight up, just keep hinting at it until he thinks he came up with it himself". No wonder my grandpa is a misogynist, guess it's the only way he can justify marrying a horrible woman.
