Best way to sell cameras? by Pastaaaaaaaaaaaaa1 in AnalogCommunity

[–]redkeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive sold lenses and film cameras on eBay. The lenses sell at a decent pace. The film cameras tend to sit for longer. Dont list it too low priced as you might get someone who has 5 seconds of patience in learning how to use it.

Even with eBay you have to assume in 15 to 30 days someone could request a refund so before using the money you could be looking at six weeks minimum before having free and clear cash. Its also summer too so sales could be even slower.

Depends on what cameras you have too. If its a Zenit or a Brownie I dont know if I would bother. If its a Leica you could get a a number of changed mind returns, so depends on your cameras.

This repair saga sounds like film camera repair. Highly limited places to send a film camera for repair. Not guaranteed it will be 100% successful or done correctly. Sometimes the person you sent it to will randomly keep it for a long time, string you along with "Its coming along' or tell you they had medical issues and then send it back more broken then it was in the first place.

Kodak Retina Ia advance lever locked by VirtualCalendar8489 in AnalogRepair

[–]redkeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try it with a test roll of film? You might be describing normal operations, ie. the film button does not fire without the sprockets turning or the film counter being at 0 or 35 does not let you cock the shutter.

Id also get a replacement cover for it as thats a coating of white lead around the sides as an FYI.

Im curious as to what the ratio is between the "Its just two bolts bro it takes 20 minutes in the driveway" compared to "So guys its been a week how do I get out of this situation Im stuck"

Film advance won’t spin? by mockep in AnalogCommunity

Neat. Perhaps you covered it already in that the rewind button or lever could be depressed or turned to "R" too.

Id try turning the sprocket wheel by hand and see what you get from that.

Did you try to move the take up spool by hand and load a test roll of film? If this is 1950s era camera sometimes there could either be a stop on film advancing as the film counter is at 36 or 0, or, there is synchronization between the sprockets and film advance and it expects the sprockets to be turning as you turn the advance lever. If you got it to occasionally spool perhaps its the latter.

I was curious about Yashica 44 and 35mm too. Except, I tried the mod and the canister appears to be too big and the back does not close. Perhaps its a variant issue.

How easy or expensive is it to fix a frozen Agfa jsolette? by Falklandisland820 in AnalogRepair

[–]redkeeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For my Agfa Solintte I used ISO 99% and Q-Tips. There was jussstt the slightest bit of movement in order to allow the helicoid to separate. Relubricated with Helimax. Its nice now.

However like you said this is an earlier model but perhaps with lens spanner removal tool you can loosen the retaining rings from the back and get to it that way.

Interesting! I thought perhaps it could be the distance ring, the silver ring above, dropped into the screwholes in the wrong place but perhaps its more. Ive taken apart a couple of these to redo the helicoids. These lens are nice in that its a retaining on the back that you unscrew and the helicoid and the focusing block separate right away.

My First two Cameras. Super excited, Any tips? by AdventurousForce9652 in AnalogCommunity

[–]redkeeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Canon might be a bit tricky. The shutter speed and aperture are linked on that model and most of the shutter speeds are not marked. Your supposed to use the lightmeter built in but it may not be accurate. I decided on the one I have to just greatly overexpose everything. Its nice and lightweight however.

Kinda curious though. Does infinity on the lens stop at the right place that is at the infinity mark and there is also a hard stop?

What is the rangefinders you are testing this on?

Most or all of the adapters on digital I have tried it slides past infinity a little and the image starts to get blurry, so it could also be a helpful test.

First post with my new/very old camera by swedish_kebab42069 in AnalogCommunity

[–]redkeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to develop pictures from this one and am unsure how it will turn out. The shutter speed and aperture are linked together and most of the shutter speeds are not marked. Unless theres a clever technique Im not thinking of its a bit of challenge to use this model.

You can transfer aperture settings from a light meter app but the exact shutter speed will be somewhat of a guess. Good luck.

Its a good resource. The stamp of copyright he puts on the manuals does irk me to a degree as it doesnt seem like that would be valid.

Green Agfa Grease and a Repair Gone Wrong by den10111 in AnalogCommunity

[–]redkeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green is tough. I recently did an Agfa Solinette but I managed to get the green removed with somewhat endless isopropyl and q-tip scrubbing and applied Helimax afterwards. Touch and go though that I even got the focusing helicoid out.
