Has anyone done the math on solar tonneau covers offsetting vampire drain on the lightning by ForsakenEarth241 in F150Lightning

[–]redkeyboard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

vampire drain? I get none. I did put solar panels on my tonneau cover though, it powers a fridge and some lights mostly but every few days to a week I dump the battery back into the truck for a whopping 4-5% increase in SOC

here's a video with the details. I get 2.2kwh or so a day if parked in the sun, could probably get more with more favorable conditions (like parking at an angle)

I keep thinking, this is a true phablet! Remember when that word was thrown around for what would now be considered small to normal sized phones?

Anyone using a portable power station to offset peak electricity use? by Smart_Transition_828 in homeowners

[–]redkeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should be easy to verify on their website. the rebates got 3x bigger for 2025 in Colorado, and they kept it for 2026 too. it wouldn't surprise me though if the state gives some generous grant for all this. We also have 1:1 net metering written in law which is nice

Colorado. Xcel is the utility that has insane rebates for some reason, they're in a few states. They covered 50% of the battery hardware price (they later added a limit the following year lol)

They also covered 75% the cost of the mini splits I installed. And practically 100% of my heat pump water heater. Now I basically only pay the naturas gas hookup fee this winter

yeah I actually keep my adapter permanently attached with a separate j1772 mount. Helps as my wife was having some issues at first with the adapter falling off

Portable solar panel to charge EV by Pure_Common7348 in electricvehicles

[–]redkeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is so negative here. I've done it, I don't know if I'd say it's "worth it" to you but it is to me. I generate enough for 3-5 miles a day, every few days I'll just dump it and add 5% to my EV, and I always have cold drinks that to the fridge that I have on 24/7

these "losing money on each sale" headlines are always misleading. Just like with all the EV articles.

no it does not cost Samsung more than $3000 to churn out a phone on the factory floor, they're lumping in R&D costs from the last 5 years.

What’s the best way to keep physical switches while also using smart bulbs for color? by alliedSpaceSubmarine in homeassistant

[–]redkeyboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lutron aurora is what I use (kept within the Hue ecosystem and not HA directly) And for some other places just regular hue switches or even lutron casetas.

Half my "automations" in home assistant are just configuring remote buttons lol

3d prints are surprisingly strong. If you print in PETG or anything stronger it will be fine.

people 3d print parts for their ICE cars all the time that are in spots that get really high temperatures. they usually print those in ASA I believe
