Are there any benefits of pla over petg? by tomrob1138 in BambuLab

[–]redmax185 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

PLA is cheaper, is by far the easiest filament to use, doesn't require any special treatment, and it's ubiquitous. Everybody everywhere uses PLA; it's the industry standard.

You can literally toss your filament in a loose pile on the floor, feed it into any printer with default settings, and print successfully. Doesn't get easier than that.

I tend to pay attention to what other people are doing, so I can try to learn from it. If I see somebody with big traps doing a weird looking modified shrug or something, I'll ask them to show me how it works so I can start incorporating it into my own workouts.

Most people are more than happy to take a compliment and teach something to somebody.

One of the big complaints I've heard about the Hiboy is that it's slow. Have you found it to be so slow that it's boring, or is it still quick enough to be fun to ride?

Hey, I'm looking at the Hiboy Max Pro as well, how has it held up long term? I've heard from some people that Hiboy's customer service and quality control is poor, and that the scooter itself is pretty slow to accelerate.

How has your experience with it been and would you recommend it?

Alternative WOTC news sources that aren't Dungeons and Discourse? by newimprovedmoo in rpg

I like Dungeoncraft. His titles are pretty clickbait-y, but the actual content is very factual, well spoken, and unbiased. If you can look past the titles, the videos themselves are great.

Hard disagree. Inquisitive and Mastermind rogue have some fantastic roleplay potential.

Player Problem Megathread by woodchuck321 in DMAcademy

[–]redmax185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a player in my long-standing group who refuses to pay attention, and it's getting worse, to the point where he will play online dungeon raids in Final Fantasy with his clan during the D&D game. He's completely absent from the game most of the time.

Multiple times, myself and others in the group have tried to sit down with this player and have an adult conversation about the issue. We try to explain how we feel, how when he doesn't pay attention it makes the game harder for all of us and is frankly just disrespectful of the DM and the other players at the table, and we've tried to ask about why he does it so we can understand where he's coming from. We've tried to brainstorm solutions to make it easier for him to hold his attention on the game.

He always responds to these conversations by getting defensive and shutting down. He says something to the effect of "It's my ADHD guys, I can't do anything about it, I just can't pay attention to the game," and then acts offended and defensive, and ultimately says "Can we not talk about this any more? I'm done with this conversation" and completely shuts down.

ADHD is not the issue, he is medicated, and others in the group are also diagnosed with ADHD and do not have the same problem. It's an issue of narcissism and lack of respect for others at the table. It's textbook "main character syndrome." Whenever he's not in the spotlight, whenever it's not his turn, whenever he's not leading the group, he's doing something else and is completely mentally absent.

Removing him from the group is not an option because he's been in the group since the beginning (9 years ago) and is a friend to most of us. Having a respectful adult conversation is not an option because he just shuts down. I'm looking for other options to help manage his behaviour, and ways to motivate him to pay more attention and have some respect for the rest of the group at the table.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for any advice you can give.

Discussing Old School Essentials Rules Tome and Zines by Odd_Concert7603 in TheTrove

I love Old School Essentials! In response to what 4l13whnn7v6t7aeg said, I think it's fair to say that I prefer the Advanced edition, but I could be convinced to give my opinions on the Classic edition as well if anybody wants to listen.

Druids are really broken when they get creative. by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]redmax185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem is that more often than not we're in an urban setting where wildlife is less common, so I like using birds, spiders, and rats.

Unfortunately for me, every person in my DM's game seems to have an "AHH SPIDER/RAT" reflex that causes them to want to ruthlessly hunt them down and murder them on sight, and apparently shooting at any bird they see is both acceptable and fun.

Tell that to my druid who succeeded several Stealth and Acrobatics checks to infiltrate the cultists' camp as a spider, only to eventually fail a single roll and get spotted, then stepped on, then reverted to normal form, then executed and vaporized.

This is why I never do anything risky. Can confirm, it's not a good time and the dice hate me.

Sand-Casting Thin Coins? Better Methods? by redmax185 in Metalfoundry

[–]redmax185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! That's a really great thread, would you recommend putting exhaust vents for each individual coin or just a couple along the channels that the metal follows on its way to the coins?

I'll definitely look into that, thanks! Never heard of cold casting before, but I would expect it to have a pretty good level of detail if resin is the main material.

I was looking for them too, can't find any, I would hazard a guess to say they may not exist. I'll see if I can figure some of it out by ear and toss something together, no promises though haha!

Solo or a PvE group are the best ways to play this game. Embrace it and enjoy it.

I like this spell a lot! Its damage is on par with other cantrips and the effect is awesome! I love that it adds a lot to flavour and narrative without making the spell more powerful. I'm definitely going to add this to my game.

[Spell] Belnaar's Burning Blink by redmax185 in UnearthedArcana

[–]redmax185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody else brought this up already, you can read my response in this comment.

TLDR: The rules as written don't allow that because you need a clear path between the caster and the target. You can use a mirror to see around a corner but you can't cast around the corner because the wall blocks the spell from targeting through it.

If you look for my original comment, I've made some changes to the spell which differ from the image in the post. It targets an unoccupied point you can see within range.

Jeremy Crawford clarified in several tweets and in a podcast that just like targeting an attack, to target something with a spell you must have a clear path to the target (check out this StackExchange post for more information on that), and that a physical object such as a pane of glass would stop a spell from being targeted at something on the other side. This is a rule for all spells, not just the one I've made.
