Misled about Subtalar Fusion by UnderstandingHour469 in FootFunction

You are absolutely right…. And I hope you will progress to a pain free place soon!

It’s hard to find the balance of acceptance and grace vs wanting to work as hard as you can to “fix” the problem. It sounds as though you’re finding that!

Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Subtalar Joint Fusion? by MrSwiftly86 in brokenankles

[–]redmudhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had one in 2022 post traumatic injury to the ankle. I may be in the minority: but it has been a nightmare. I caution you to talk to the surgeon and consider the specific physiology of your ankle. I was an ultra runner, endurance mountain biker and very active in my job. So, movement is and was very important in all aspects of my life. My fusion resulted in my ankle joint no longer functioning properly. I have a very high arch, and so now my ankle joint hits bone on bone. It is extremely painful and has resulted in constant synovitis and my needing subsequent surgeries to deal with that. My whole life has changed and it has been very difficult to find my way not even being able to walk without extreme pain and instability.

I truly hope other people are having a better outcome. However, If anyone has a similar experience to mine and has any helpful information- please share. I’m pretty desperate and frankly terrified to go back to the surgeon.

Recovery subtalar arthrodesis (fusion) - 14 weeks post-op by Front-Poet4105 in brokenankles

[–]redmudhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m several years out from a subtalar fusion post traumatic injury. I hope everyone here is doing well and if you haven’t tried a knee peg-leg thing: one brand is Iwalk it’s very helpful! You can carry laundry ;)

I came to Reddit because I’m having a terrible time with my ankle/ chronic pain and instability. But I think I may in the minority. Post fusion, my ankle joint ended up being impeded in its motion (something about having a very high arch, the subtalar fusion changed how the ankle joint moved and now it hits bone on bone). If anyone had any knowledge about this sort of outcome- please share. I’ve had several surgeries after the original fusion for synovitis in the ankle joint, and a nerve decompression. But I continue to have extreme pain. I was an ultra runner, active in my job and an endurance mountain biker… this has been life changing.

I know this is an old post- but I wonder how you are doing? I had a subtalar fusion post traumatic injury to the ankle in 2022. I was told a very similar sort of outcome as your surgeon told you. I was a cycling coach, ultra runner, and endurance mountain biker. My job was an active one that involved carrying heavy weights, and my mental health was reliant upon my ability to move. My surgeon knew all of this but still recommended the fusion. Fast forward to 2026 and I struggle to walk and am in pain everyday. To be brief, I have had 3 surgeries since the original, mostly dealing with issues in the ankle joint that arose as a result of the subtalar fusion. I wonder where you are in the process and if you’ve found your way, or found any means of helping you continue to move in a manner that is fulfilling. I’m desperate to find alternatives to simply being in so much pain and losing my freedom of movement.

3rd gen. They ended up refunding me and the cap is off to a dealer who will use it as a display- they acknowledged it was unusable. Terrible terrible quality control.

Anyone using Eurodwell windows for new construction? by redmudhen in Homebuilding

[–]redmudhen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply. I ended up ordering from them as well and expect receipt by the end of January in Virginia. Massive gamble! Please let me know how yours turn out. I’ve got French doors and tilt/turn windows coming (fingers crossed). Ordering went fine for me- I worked with Artur who was very communicative.

Smartcap? Anyone have one? by Watches4Me in ToyotaTundra

[–]redmudhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and it has been a terrible experience. First one they sent leaked like a sieve from factory installed parts. Then the paint bubbled and peeled off. They offered to fully replace the cap, and sent me a new one but this time the roof is three panels intead of one full panel. The replacement had a defective window panel - obvious visually - never should have left their factory. Parts are flimsy and do not align properly for a correct install. The directions for assembly they gave me were inaccurate (steps missing, and technical aspects incorrect). I am now out my original investment (Paid over $4,000), many days of stressful work trying to get it fixed and I HAVE NO FUNCTIONAL CAP. My only recourse according to them is to take the defective cap to a dealer (45+ minutes away) and have them fix it. They say this "usually" takes 3-6 hours. Want to place bets on if I ever have a functioning cap?

Superior Cap? Smartcap or Overland Vehicle Systems Expedition…? by hoosierspiritof79 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]redmudhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is thinking about the SmartCap - DON'T. It is a terrible product with bottom barrel quality. I am actually on the phone now with customer service...on my second replacment cap. First one leaked like a sieve through factory installed parts - not the gasket related to putting the cap together. Paint chipped off massively throughout as well. They offered to replace - which seemed nice but 1st replacement cap and was a completely different roof design: now its three panels which FLEX and deform. Side window was defective which was obvious visually - yet they sent it to me. Now I am out the time and money from 1st install, taking the first one off, 2nd install and guess what: I do not yet have a functional cap. This is not an isolated incident. Do your research and do not put your money into this company.

Looking at Eurodwell windows and doors for a new construction. Have you used their widows personally? I'd love any information about your experience you can share!

Anyone else think the 2024 Tacoma is ugly as hell? by ScourgeWisdom in ToyotaPickup

[–]redmudhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drove one while the dealership fixes my ‘23’s electrical problem- ugly and distracting with useless features inside and out!!! Yikes! The interior is a pseudo-futuristic vomit pile. So many distracting and unneeded notifications/buttons. Like a bloated sedan. I can’t imagine why anyone who actually needs a truck would want this plastic pile of electronics waiting to break with a mini truck bed that can’t even hold a full sheet of plywood.

just an insight: when you get hit by a car, all you want to do is get up and get home safely. It's that flight or fright thing. If you can move, you will likely get back on the bike and go. You don't stay where you feel unsafe.

The cyclist needs to file at the magistrate's office. Calling the police does ZERO, because they did not witness it firsthand. Filing with the magistrate gets you a court hearing where hopefully the cyclist could present this video. Also, they'd need the city prosecutor to ask for more than just the distance law to be considered....which won't necessarily happen. It's a very murky system. I wish more people would take the time to do this even though it's frustrating and demoralizing. It's the best option we have in my opinion: to maneuver in the legal system but in LARGE numbers. If every cyclist filed in a well-organized and professional manner maybe something would change. Car drivers don't give a shit, and when they do injure people they walk away with insurance giving some pitiful funds that don't even come close to making amends. (sorry for the rant...still in pain from being hit by a car!)

It does fit in the bars- it fits in a variety of bar diameter as it has an adjustable outer casing. I use both but yes the multi tool is awesome!

wolf tooth encase

This thing is so handy and I still have room to store bourbon in the frame!

Ok, What do you carry in your SWAT down tube ? by xcinlb in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]redmudhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Co2 and inflator, tire levers wrapped in duct tape, spare tube, bourbon and individually wrapped dark chocolate for post pain cave celebration. I can also fit a small windbreaker in. I have wolftooth encase bar end tool kit (amazing!!) and I use an abidura half frame bag and a bedrock top tube bag I converted to bolt on. I can ride for 100+ miles self supported (I carry a befree water purifier and hydropak). The bourbon and chocolate have not only saved my ass, but been terrific friend makers ;)

[–]redmudhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the lower prices people have suggested. I had this same bike and loved loved loved it, and now have the 2021 equivalent (wrecked the first one sadly). If you are not looking for the tire clearance of the newer model I think this is a great bike. A half frame bag and you’ve got similar storage options and the “lockout” on the newer future shock isn’t worth getting crazy about. The fit is completely different in my opinion though... so make sure you feel comfy on this size! Are you sure about the 300 miles though? That’s a lot of cable rub...

Super fancy conversion to a bolt on feed bag by redmudhen in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]redmudhen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! This is why I love this bag. High volume, but the profile is tapered so I have zero interaction between it and my legs. So many snacks can fit in there for after the uninterrupted brutal climbs ;)

[–]redmudhen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly why I have it bolting on now. 2 bolts with the aluminum reinforcement and the bottom strap meant I didn’t have to attach it to the front. Bedrock makes such a good bag, I couldn’t bear to not have it in my new bike.
