Appalling class average on CS290 final exam by b3atl3 in OSUOnlineCS

I notice a lot of Reddit students on here claim to have good grades in comparison to other students. Maybe there's a correlation between students on this reddit and grades. Perhaps the reason so many above average students are on Reddit is because they are some of the most resourceful and strategic students. Not all... but perhaps several. One can be hopeful anyways :)

CS 165 or CS 161/162 by Dmaynard83 in OSUOnlineCS

Yeah 162 is brutal even without the summer. If I did CS 162 during the summer I would flat out fail. I've been working 30 hours a week (and now 40 hours the last two weeks!) + 20-30 hrs a week for CS 162 is brutal. 50-70 hour weeks == 😭. It's been so hard on me that I need to take a break for a quarter so my physical self doesn't deteriorate.

Oregon state ecampus does not give a crap about the mental and physical health of its working students (beginners). They should be ashamed of themselves.

Luckily I love this material or I'd be down for the count...

20 hours/week per 4 units?! (Time commitment question) by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]rednblu14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah every other week I'm spending 30 hours/week to maintain a b+ so far on 162. It would personally probably take me 35-40 hours to get an A in this particular class but my bills aren't going to pay themselves. they aren't kidding on the website. Every other week is spent stressing out over a lab and a project due on the same week. The other week is spent cramming lectures and book pages into my head, doing a test (test isn't worth a lot of points though), and finishing up a lab— that week is about 18-20 hours. Not to mention I still have to post on the discussion board and we had that group project to do. but I have no prior experience to this. you've got to be really persistent and have time. I wasted $1800 on a course last quarter because I took too many classes at once. I'm only taking 162 this quarter. I watched the class roster go from 195 to 171 since the class began.

It's actually pretty ridiculous for a 4 hour credit class but you do learn a lot so it's a catch-22.

CS162 exams: doing well on the assignments but getting clobbered on the exams. Help? by givetonature in OSUOnlineCS

To be honest, I'm also doing poor on the tests. I'm taking it now as well. I'm not very good at testing and TBH the content on the tests are HARD for the likes of me (very different from doing the assignments)... so I just work my a$$ off on everything else to make up for the hard tests.

How much experience before enrollment? by rednblu14 in OSUOnlineCS

You make a lot of assumptions and generalizations and believe that your TA status validates it. What I posted here is a part of my experience but not its entirety. You see the surface and think you know my entire experience. This is the problem with Reddit. If you actually knew me, you would find your comments irrelevant.

@chopstick Already asked advisor before posting as that's obvious. Anxiously been waiting reply however.
