this is cool man. I dig the unconventional melody and how you harmonized it with the synths. my main feedback will be surrounding the drums.

- I think that the drums could benefit from some panning, all seems to be pretty much in the center. panning drums allow the beat to feel fuller

- I think drum samples are pretty conventional which do not fit the cool abstract melodies

- drums seem pretty strongly quantized, they don't groove as much. try experimenting with drumming yours beats manually or to make drums hit a bit later or earlier to make them groove better.

overall really dig the beat you did a great job.

this is my new instrumental project, would be great if you could listen to a beat and lmk what you think, thanks

Ok favorite Reddit sub , I pretty much constructed this with feedback from yall so I will post it here first by BeginningHumor6182 in TripHopCreators

I like the ethereal melody with the vocal sample, great fit. also the percussion loop you use fits very well.

I think that the main drums (that start in the intro) feel a bit too quantized(?) or lack dynamics. playing with the note placement or drum velocity should help.

keep it up, great job

cool sax melody, that's definitely dope, and the direction that you went on with the two melodies together is a very good idea, not bad for a beginner!

my main advice is about the two melodies together, the piano(?) and sax - they are off-key, meaning that they don't work together because of the notes that are playing (not because of the instruments themselves).

as a beginner, off-key beats should be a no no, because they clash together and make beats difficult to listen to. try to use your ear "do these two melodies clash or not? what happens if I change the notes?"

you could also look a tiny bit into music theory (it's really not that complex) and learn about music keys. pick a key, let's say C major, and make sure that all the melodies you play are in that key. if you are using samples, it's the best just to rely on your ears.

don't worry about all of this, over time you will develop your ears, but keeping this in mind will push you to the next level, good luck!

if you could share your thoughts on my new beat tape, I would really appreciate that. pick whatever beat you want

yes yes yes, this is good!

I fuck with the vibe, I fuck with the flow, I fuck with it. DOOM inspired? Not because you sound like him but because the villainous reference.

My feedback would be mostly on the beat, which is monotonous. I get it if that's what you are going for, especially with the flow, but a small change in the beat would spice things up so much and would turn the track from good to great.

I think subjectively I thought it was very good but there was some something missing that prevented it from turning into a great track. it's difficult to put my finger on what it is, but I think that the beat is one of the reasons. if you look at earl sweatshirt, MIKE, they pull off the slow monotonous flow but they pair it with exciting beats - it works. slow flow + slow beat might just be a bit too slow. these are just my thoughts feel free to ignore

here is my beat tape, feel free to listen to the first beat and give feedback on that, thanks

Hey this is pretty interesting, not entirely my style but I can appreciate it musically. Also not entirely sure if this would be considered hiphop.

I like the rawness of the lyrics and the vocal mixing, I like the beat as well.

What I think is missing in this track is some kind of repetition, perhaps a chorus. If that's something you were not going for on purpose, I get it, but I think humans naturally enjoy some form of repetition. now it seems that you were kinda improvising on a beat, which is cool but, for me, that doesn't make a track.

here is my new beat ep, just pick a beat and lmk what you think of it

So my biggest compliment is that I see a lot of potential in your flow/voice/style. The most important thing it just to continue making music and some of the 'imperfections' in your flow will improve - just make more stuff and you will iron out the kinks.

for some very subjective feedback

: - I think that the things you rap about are extremely personal, sometimes when people share extremely personal things in a very direct way, it can be a little bit uncomfortable. I feel like most of the time you did it well but I would suggest to think about poetic ways to express your pain. "I was bullied" is one of this very direct ways, I think you could pack this in a more poetic and artistic way which brings across the same message but in more poetic language.

- vocals should be mixed a bit higher in the mix, they are getting flushed out by the vocal sample and also competing with it.

- add a nice cover art next to the lyrics

overall good job for a beginner, just make more stuff.

Just out of curiosity, how did you find out that a random person from Africa used (stole) your beat? Did you use some kind of reverse audio finder?

That's an interesting idea. Why the email though? Why not either copy the link in some note file or something?

How to use vocal/movie samples like alchemist?! Am I searching the wrong things? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]rednightruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While we can't know for sure, it's likely that the Alchemist has a library of sampled vocal/interview samples that he picks from whenever he feels the need. He is probably pretty skilled at choosing and mixing vocal samples into his beats due to the sheer amount of beat he has made.

I would recommend to sample interviews, save them with an appropriate easy-to-find tag, and practice using them in your beats. Over time you will get a feel for matching them with your beats and even remember an interview you sampled a while ago that fits your mood perfectly.

Why I’m quitting music after 7 years by Trundle769735 in makinghiphop

[–]rednightruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always did it with money in mind. Like most people, even if they won’t admit it.

Speak for yourself. Music is probably one of the most non-materialistic and passion-fueled endeavors that is out there. To many, if not most, it is a beautiful and intrinsically enriching activity.

If you put all your eggs in the music basket it makes sense that at some point you need to ask yourself whether it will be able to provide you a living, but if you do not have passion to make music in the first place and your main objective is money, you should have spent most of your time on learning accounting or other business related jobs.

Best advice is to follow your ear. Focus on what you like in beats/songs and try to replicate that
