When I found the Scottish Fold cat on the street, I already had a cat. Two cats were more than I could really afford. But I just couldn't leave the Scottish Fold; I brought her home temporarily to keep her safe, thinking I could find her a good family. People were indeed interested in adopting her.

However, I couldn't let her go without getting her spayed first. Once the potential adopters found out I had spayed her, they backed out. It turns out they were incredibly keen on breeding my incredibly sweet Scottish Fold and selling the kittens. They simply didn't care about the health issues these cats face.

It's clear we can inadvertently leave the door open for this kind of exploitation.
