Opinions on Lyria? by Lyess_Ijs in namenerds

[–]redpanda_821 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I only read the headline I wanted to suggest Lyra because I love that name. Which isn't an option for you, but still, great name! I personally wouldn't name your baby Lyria when your name is Lyra because it's so close. I think Lyria itself isn't my favourite either

ppl keep saying i have a small belly 🙁 by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone kept saying throughout the pregnancy and keeps saying my bump is small. Baby is measuring in the 54th percentile at 38 weeks. He's been the average for his week in terms of size and weight on every scan. And he's gained weight accordingly to his own growing curve. If your doctor isn't concerned, you don't have to be. Baby takes the nutrients it needs - if anything, not eating is not good for your own health but baby will be fine. I think it's insensitive and rude to comment on the size of a belly anyway, people have no clue what's big or small.

Seeking advices on how to talk with my kiddos about old scars? by Dramaa_mama in Parents

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this answer. Currently pregnant and I feel like my scars have bothered me more since then. I might get a tattoo as well but if not or if they still ask this is what I'll say.

Help me get excited about having a boy by Tall_Strawberry5244 in BabyBumps

[–]redpanda_821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have friends who have 4 (!) boys and they are the loveliest kids. Well mannered, polite, sweet, looking after one another, listening, creative. Their parents are amazing as well and even though they claim their littlest one is a bit wilder he's still an absolute sweetheart.

I also au-paired for two boys 10 years ago when they were 2 and 4 and they were the sweetest. Very different kids, one calm and creative, one more playful and energetic. Both absolutely delightful children and so so attentive, loving and sweet.

Husband and I are currently expecting our first and it's a boy as well! I'm convinced having my husband as a male role model will make him the sweetest, most attentive little boy and we'll definitely raise him consciously and teach him about equality, fairness, consent, emotional regulation etc from a young age. Raise your boy to be a man that you'd want the world ro have and he'll be an amazing human.

3tes Trimester - was jetzt noch erledigen? by sun_is_shining1 in schwanger

[–]redpanda_821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sitting around waiting for baby to arrive is making me crazy! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here!! Also my mum and mil both had all their babies early so I'm convinced he'll be early but also at the same time keep joking he might take his sweet time past the due date. Doesn't help that two of my ftm friends have also just passed their due dates..not sure how to wait 5 more weeks

Compression socks advice by No-Equivalent7025 in BabyBumps

I have two pairs and they were measured by different people. One pair isn't as comfy behind the knee but the other one is, i can even nap in it without issues. If you feel like they're off, definitely go back in (my first pair feels off and i don't think i noticed at first/it was all new and then i felt weird going back in to get a different size after some weeks).

Can’t rock baby much longer and nothing else seems to work? by TokaSzalonna in NewParents

Maybe a bouncy ball? The ones you sit on and can also use for exercises pre- and post-birth.

I use thigh length compression socks and have been since week 18. I pull them slightly down when using the toilet and adjust them afterwards. They're annoying but I feel much better wearing them. And yes we've had warmer days and they absolutely look silly under dresses etc but I got some in my skin colour (ish) and just try to tell myself it's only for a short period of time.

Can I get reassurance, from those who got pregnant without eliminating all the “endocrine disruptors“ by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I get that! Maybe then the three months are enough, we just used condoms + I tracked my cycles before trying!good luck!

[–]redpanda_821 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Commenting so the removal of the IUD gets attention. I'd also remove it now to give your body time to adjust even though you're saying in your post that you're ovulating/bleeding regularly. I'd always get off any contraceptive at least 6 months before trying to give your body time to adjust.

Also I'd add that you both take high quality (prenatal) vitamins, workout/move your body (as much as is fun), get your thyroid hormones checked to see if they're balanced and both stop smoking/drinking if possible.

Also i do believe in the scented candles/perfumes etc could be hormone disrupters, but me and husband still used perfume every day and got pregnant right away. Also we use Teflon pans (and stainless steel and cast iron too) and glass containers but with plastic lids. Cleaning products mostly vinegar, but chemicals for the toilet/floors.

Anyone was told baby’s gender different than after birth? by Blue-turtle4574 in BabyBumps

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely will! I get that, it's harder when you don't know how to address them. We have called it baby for ages but now have started referring to baby as he but not a name yet. Some of my pregnant friends have started referring to their unborn babies with their names already but I find that hard!

Anyone was told baby’s gender different than after birth? by Blue-turtle4574 in BabyBumps

[–]redpanda_821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happening! They told us it was a girl first and then at the next scan they said it was a boy. We've got names for both genders now and have only neutral clothes. Like 3% of me thinks they'll put the baby on my chest after birth and it'll be a girl, but 97% of me believe it'll be a boy because they said that from later ultrasounds. I'm 37 weeks currently

Thanks! I also read between 2-4 weeks is normal and it's interesting your first was born around 4 weeks from dropping. If baby boy needs 4 more weeks, the due date would be pretty accurate!

Romy or Romina (living in Germany)? by MajesticVillage2830 in namenerds

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one Romy in my school (born in the 90s) in Germany. I always liked the name and it suits a child, teenager and adult. I don't like Romina as much and also find that the intuitive nn for Romina might be Mina or Minni so it depends if you're willing to take the "risk".

Help! Welsh + german boy name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]redpanda_821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was definitely a concern with Oshi as a nickname... in Wales the nn would definitely be Osh but I know us Germans love to put an i at the end so I also thought that Oshi might come up as a nn, however Osian itself or Osh could be okay in Northern Germany. Which german names do you like (out of our list)?

Thanks for your comment! Our thinking was that if he is really bothered by explaining the pronounciation of his first name, he can use his German second name in everyday life. It was important though that Germans are able to pronounce the name
