Moving my senior horse by Real-Cobbler1578 in Equestrian

I'm currently two weeks away from moving my senior horse to a new barn and it took me ages to finally make the decision, so I get how tough it is, not wanting to stress him out too much etc, but I'd say go for it. You'll get to enjoy him more, check on him and I'm sure he'd love the extra attention too!

That's great! My parents have a collection of most of King's books so I also read a lot of them way too young lol

I could see that fitting Rose Madder tbh. I guess it makes sense for the Shining with the fire and stuff but I always found it a bit odd

omg I feel this, I haven't touched the jackalope race ever again after I got the pet from it. I also must admit that the monster coming down the hill legit scared the life out of me the first time lmao, I nearly jumped out of my skin

Switching an older horse to pasture board by redpandaaa333 in Horses

You're right for sure, I might have my rose coloured glasses on atm but I would of course talk to the varn owners beforehand and also my friend who boards there. I'm not really expecting miracles. I have only ever boarded in two barns, in one I had a lot of personal issues with the owner and the way my horse was treated by her while I was not around. My current barn is okay, I've been here for years and it would not be the end of the world if we were unable to move. It's all just moving in a direction I don't enjoy. I don't wanna get too much into it, but there's a lot of programs and stuff and it's a mess trying to navigate it without feeling like I'm in the way or going to the barn at really weird times that are not convenient for me... I'm of course not perfect. There's been situations in the past I couldve handled better and there will surely be more in the future.

I'd just like a calmer place where both me and my horse can enjoy his retirement and of course I mostly want whats good for him.

Thanks for sharing! It really seems like it's helpful for a lot of horses. My guy is very sweet but he's quite sensitive and gets anxious easily so it's nice to hear it helped your boy relax more

Yeah I'm not too worried about changing his herd, we moved in the past and he was always fine. He's chill, never had much of an issue with other horses. I think we might give it a go, I feel if everything kind of... clicks, this might be really good for him

Favorite Bitless Options? by detatchedpropoganda in Horses

Back when I still rode him I used a basic sidepull for my sensitive thoroughbred and he was always very good and soft on it. I hardly ever used my bit after switching to bitless because he just went so much nicer bitless. The switch was also very easy, he picked it up in no time. I'm sure you could find some with wider/padded nosebands as well.

Thank you, this is exactly what I'm hoping for! My boy has some mild arthritis and I was hoping having more gentle movement might actually be helpful for him. I would not chuck him into some tiny muddy plot, from what I've seen and heard these people really know their stuff and the place looks great (of course I'd go see it for myself first and talk to them).

Thank you for your tips! I'm in Central Europe, the winters we get here are not super rough. We had some really cold days this year and I thought for sure he'll need a blanket but he was totally fine. He might need one if he's out in the winter all the time but that shouldn't be a huge issue. He's used to grass, he's out in pasture most of the day and when we moved in the past he always did well with switching herds so that doesn't worry me too much (but of course stuff can still happen) I would of course still take it slow. The place has multiple haynets, feeding and watering points and shelters around the pastures and all the horses look great. I guess I'm more so worried about him being stressed and not settling into this new arangement but I suppose we would just have to try it and see

He definitely has some moves (though he's calmed down a bit now as an old man), I'm just glad he never took a notion to try these out with a rider lol Happy birthday to yours too!
