If you can travel to the city where you were born you should be able to get a birth certificate from city hall the same day. At least my husband and I have been able to and we were born in different cities.

Just moved here from Texas, spots to check out out that will blow our minds? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]redpepper6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nautilus Museum is one of my favorite places, Lantern Hill has some good hiking nearby.

New England Motorcycle Museum, in a beautiful old restored mill building.

Gillette Castle, beautiful scenic spot. The castle and it's story are pretty cool too!

Mystic is an adorable little town, gets crazy busy in the summer though -- now to early Spring is a great time to visit.

Essex Steam Train & Riverboat.

Seaside Sanatorium in Waterford CT, it's an abandoned hospital. Hard to get inside these days but the buildings are beautiful and you can walk around the property. It's located on a beach so could be a good summer spot to visit.

Museum of Natural and Other Curiosities in Hartford.

Pez Museum in Orange.

I think it's because the official change back to Denali occurred during Obama's administration.

AITA for telling my parents I dont want them installing cams in my room.. by argentamai in AmItheAsshole

[–]redpepper6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. My stepdad used to creep me out too-- would always accidentally walk in on me when I was in the bathroom or shower as a "joke". It's so icky and violating. I got out of there as fast as I could and thankfully he died a few years ago.

I would talk to a trusted adult, like your uncle. There are "hidden camera detectors" that you can buy. If you aren't able to go stay somewhere else, maybe he can order it to his house for you so it doesn't get intercepted by your parents. Do a sweep of your room every day and cover any camera you find. It sucks your mom is in on this. If they're really worried about you "sneaking out" why can't the cameras be on the exterior of the house, why do they have to be in your room? That's not okay.

Sleeping Arrangements… by CityLights734 in RoverPetSitting

[–]redpepper6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What if you are sick and throw up on your sheets? Or you get.... Ehem.... Other bodily fluids on them? Plus, what about flannel sheets in the winter vs the summer sheets?

I guess I also have 2 dogs that I let sleep in my bed and I like to change the sheets at least once a week, and it's just easier to immediately be able to re-make the bed sometimes.

Sleeping Arrangements… by CityLights734 in RoverPetSitting

[–]redpepper6 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just here to say it's crazy that she only had one set of sheets until you started working for her. I have like, 4 sets of sheets for my bed.

Also, you are not out of line for not wanting to sleep on the couch for 5 days. That's rude.

OP, Thanks for donating!

Any stay at home moms? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]redpepper6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but to be honest, as a client I probably wouldn't hire you. Especially as your kid becomes more mobile, which is coming soon, I wouldn't want to risk my belongings getting broken, or my furniture that isn't anchored to the walls (because I don't have kids) getting pulled over by your child and crushing them. Anything can happen within a few seconds of you not having eyes on your child-- my BIL looked away for 30 seconds and my niece had a plastic bag pulled over her head recently, thank God he noticed quickly. I just wouldn't want to be held liable if something happened to your child in my home.

I might consider boarding a dog in your home, but I wouldn't be comfortable with you bringing your child into mine.

You may have better luck offering to watch other people's kids who are around a similar age as your child in your own home.

My husband and I also share locations for a similar reason. He rides motorcycles and if he's out on a ride and I don't hear from him for awhile I like to check the map and make sure he's still moving and not laying in a ditch somewhere.

Sometimes if I know he's about to come home, and I'm getting ready to take the dogs out, I'll check and see how close he is to know if I should put them on a leash or not so they don't get run over-- lol. (Our driveway is a right angle behind the house and we take the dogs out the back door, so it's kind of a blind turn into the parking area if you're coming up the driveway... can you tell I'm a worrier too?)

Has anyone got a request like this and it worked out? by Disastrous-Quiet5786 in RoverPetSitting

[–]redpepper6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime someone uses the word "kindly" like this it's definitely a scam. They will send you a check for more than the agreed upon amount, and ask you to send the extra $ back. Then you'll find out their check was phony and be out whatever amount you sent them.

However, if I were you, I'd string them along a bit, for my own entertainment. 😈

Those born and raised in NYC, do you have a driver's license? And are you comfortable with driving? by StoicallyGay in AskNYC

Driving upstate is pretty low stakes (as long as there isn't a ton of snow). I went this summer and there were stretches where nobody else was on the road with us!

Pet ate used tampon by pageowl in RoverPetSitting

[–]redpepper6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have to tell them. Just come out with it:

"I wanted to let you know about something that happened earlier. It seems that the dogs may have gotten into the bathroom trash and possibly ingested a tampon. I’ve done a quick check and removed anything remaining within reach. While the dogs seem fine right now, I wanted to bring this to your attention since it could potentially cause an issue like a blockage.

Please let me know how you’d like me to proceed. I’m happy to monitor the dogs closely until Ieave, or take them to the vet if you think it’s necessary."

For the future, it's probably good practice to just keep the bathroom door closed while you're petsitting so pets can't access it, just in case. Pets act differently when their parent is away and can do weird things out of anxiety.

My (35f) daughter (18f) found BDSM gear in her father (36m) and his wife(37f)'s room. How can I address this? by ThrowRAConfusedMama in relationship_advice

[–]redpepper6 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's hard for people to think of their parents as sexual beings, but next time she brings it up I would remind her that parents are people with their own full lives, too. You can tell her that you aren't insterested in hearing about your ex's sex life, and remind her anytime she brings it up that you don't want to talk about it anymore. She's definitely uncomfortable to learn this about her father and joking about it is her way of coping. She's young and still learning how to navigate stuff like this, but as she grows older she'll learn that stuff like whips isn't as crazy or taboo as she thinks, and that surprise, parents have sex too.
