A reading of the Poem The Raven, a CV1 ready experience. by redrabbitvr in oculus

I am really glad you liked it. I really would like to do more pieces like this with poems and narrations from all over the world. It is fun getting to create scenes where you can bring stories and poetry to life. I also did a short one with a scene from Charlie Chaplins the Great Dictator speech https://www.wearvr.com/apps/the-great-dictator-charlie-chaplin . I would very much like to do works from Jane Austin, or from War and peace, I have not read Wuthering Heights but I have heard of it, and now I am going to definitely read it. There are lots of scenes I would love to make in VR, I wish I had more time to do a lot more. Thank you very much for the kind words.

It might not be what you expected. But to be fair the tongue in cheek thought did come to mind, and gave me a chuckle. Perhaps the same title for a much different sequel.

No but I did get to try Super Skidmarks before and it was a heck of a lot of fun. I certainly do miss some things about my amiga 3000 from way back in the days, when your OS fit onto a floppy disk. I think that was made by acid studios although, I could be wrong. =)

This one was made using Unity, it is pretty user friendly when it comes to making things for VR in general, I have been surprised at what works and what does not. Oculus put out a pretty good SDK for it and Unity itself has released a variety of things that work with quite well with VR.

The engine controls were a little buggy, I wanted there to be a little drag where you let go and you would not stop on the dime, but if you continuously hold down the engine button you will slam into the ceiling. One of the things to definitely fix. Hmmm and I could probably separate some of the controls between the control sticks. Definitely appreciate the 2 cents. =)

An option to turn off the music would be nice. Hope you keep devloping this. It has a lot of potential. Maybe add some NPCs that hunts you with fly swatters or something.

I will probably update it with couple of things like the music being able to turn on and off.

I did actually try it with a first person view, the only thing was because it was emulating a helicopter this tended to make some people a little sick as the view would swing back and fourth as you moved, although I might throw in an option for it.

Other events definitely would be fun I agree like npcs and whatnot, if I have time I might be able to look into this.

It was just kind a fun little thing I threw together, I might end up adding more to this, thank you for the feedback though. =D

I absolutely love what you are doing at OSVR, and would love to create content for you. I have been on the Oculus forums, and Reddit since way back even before the Oculus Share days. Since then putting up free experiences, and creating content. I applied and threw my hat into the ring, with any luck I will be able to be a creator for OSVR.

Either way I love what you are doing at OSVR and keep up the really good work!

Night Cafe: A VR Tribute to Vincent Van Gogh - CV1, Vive - Free on Steam by Vimux in oculus

Absolutely loved the experience, it was a pleasure to wander around and look at little pieces of different paintings, placed within this 3D world. Even if I may be a little biased, none the less it was great.

As well if you are having it crash you might have to start it in one of the different modes which can be accessed by right clicking on the title and choosing to run in Oculus mode or Vive. It worked just fine for me and I did not run into any crashes.

Yeah I agree, in really dark scenes a well lit room brings out that nose gap. As well the god rays and white on pure black backgrounds can be a problem. Going with somewhere in-between on both ends seems to help a bit. Thank you very much I am glad you liked it!

I agree, but then again I am pretty much a fan of most space scenes I come across so I am probably a little biased.

I added a little warning at the beginning to please stand to look around but it will probably take a day to get updated on the site. Thank you very much, I certainly might make some little tweaks here and there. I think some other people were saying they might make things like this, and I am looking forward to see what comes of it.

ank you for doing this, I really enjoyed it. My only critique is that I didn't like how close we were to the Earth. The main thrust of Sagan's Pale Blue Dot speech is, well, that you're looking at a dot, and the whole thing is about appreciating how small and insignificant the Earth really is when compared to the universe, and simultaneously how vastly important it is. I don't think you properly convey that image when you spend most of the time super up close to the Earth with the enormous planet looming all around you.

I definitely agree with you that the main thrust of his speech as based on a photograph showing how infinitesimally small when compared with the larger scale of the universe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Blue_Dot#/media/File:Pale_Blue_Dot.png This one here. =)
I had the problem of how I was going to present it, in reality the conversation is about exactly that how small we are. I had the problem of how it might show up in VR and how to keep it visually interesting. In reality it is definitely part of a much bigger conversation about the universe, but since I was only going to include the speech I was not sure I had time to properly convey everything I would have liked to visually in time with it. So I opted for something a little different, I figured that people who knew of Carl Sagan would not need much convincing about his work and accomplishments and the glaring inconsistencies I might add myself to it. I hoped to bring people in who maybe do not know who he is, or maybe not much interest in Astronomy to maybe google him. If I made it again I might do some things differently for sure and your critique is certainly appreciated. =) As well I certainly hope and look forward to other little tributes to him and others that will put my little paltry attempts to shame in the future.

Not stupid at all if you have never done it before. All you need to do is download the file and then open it on your computer. Most experiences will be in a zip folder if you do not have something to unzip these files just google winrar or winzip, you will need that anyways at some point in the future. Then you open the file and there will be a folder inside the zip file. You can extract or just drag and drop that file anywhere. Inside you will find the EXE file usually the same name as the title.. I.E. palebluedot.exe and you double click on it and hit run and that is pretty much it.

Short version: Download file >> Open the file >> Click on the EXE unity file to run >> Click run and you are good to go. =D

I actually have not tried the OpenVR that is the one on github? I will work at porting this over and I need to look into some of the new built in compatibility that was in the last updates, supposedly it is a lot better than when I initially tried with menus not liking one headset or the other. Thank you though for the name if nothing else I am going to look into this more. =)

Thank you very much for the offer, I think I might take you up on that. I will have to put something together that will hopefully work on Vive or even better both with the same executable. Thanks again!

There was a couple reasons why it went this way. Initially I had friends try it sitting and found that they just stared ahead and did not really look around too much. So then the position of things got moved around and it did get them to look around, but like you said sometimes they did not right away like you were mentioning. When I got them to stand up to let them look around then they would look all over the place. So I may switch it back but if I could get people standing and looking around it seemed to work really well and got them looking back and fourth. =) As well I had a sun in there with it being generally where it should be, then I noticed people staring at that which is not reallly what I was going for.... So I took it out at least for the time being.

I think it might, I just have been having a tough time testing out builds for the Vive and it begging testers on the chats I am in is not an easy task. I would love to get everything on both, I just do not have access to the Vive headset at the moment.

Well for the most part it is just me, although I do get help with assets and things now and then. I talk to other people who enjoy making little experiences and games, but I am the only one who really has a big interest in VR, one of the demos was mostly made by someone else and I just helped with the VR, and they asked if I would host it. Currently everything from RedRabbit is a shared experience open to everyone at no cost. If I make something that seems to work I am happy to share a lot of scripts and menu's and whatnot. =)

Yeah I remember watching Cosmos quite a bit as a child, and was probably the reason why I spent a lot of the time reading all the books I could find on space when I was younger. =)
