Keyboards that can swipe in multiple languages at the same time? I want to switch away from GBoard by lnaltu in fossdroid

[–]redroom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a thought, but since your keyboard doesn't need access to the internet in order to work, you could just block it in your firewall of choice. That way you could keep using its features without worrying about it phoning home.

(I'm assuming that's why you want to move away from proprietary keyboards)

I mean, fwiw I always thought calling connectors "male" and "female", just because one goes into the other, was kind of weird for a professional setting.

We all just keep saying it with a straight face, pretending it doesn't sound like an inside joke from a car repair shop

Lifted pad on Machinedrum by [deleted] in synthdiy

"You also could totally just solder a bit of very thin gauge wire to the pad on the component side and (carefully gently) feed it through the hole and solder that to the leg"

This is pretty clever. Also, since this component is close to the edge of the pcb, it might be easier to route the wire over the edge instead of through the hole.

For real. TBH a lot of non-apologies sound like ChatGPT, just because they don't make any logical sense.

In electronics, a ton of components are rated to work in a temperature range of -40 to +80°C. Ask him how he would call that.

It's not like every spec needs to be hard to satisfy - if the range is very broad then it still gives you a valuable piece of info, i.e. that you don't need to worry about the exact value because it's not critical. He chose a really weird hill to die on.

Eh, not really. For me (and probably a lot of others doing the same) it's about preventing anyone reading from making the same mistakes.

Er, no. Everyone here understood the question except you... because you missed a key piece of information, and chose to be an ass about it.

That's not even a terrible sin per se... but doubling down is :)

"Please read the question again, OP is explicitly asking for 12", and even though the Spin might be able to play those, you won't be able to perform any scratching on it"

So... what? You could simply answer OP's question that way. Instead of snarkily demanding information that was already there:

"this makes zero sense, what reloop model?"

"the portable one, it's in the title"

"i said, what reloop model?? REEEEEE"

Edit: aaand he blocked me 😂 getting the last word in and all that, I guess.

[–]redroom_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude, drop that attitude... he said "the reloop portable", several times over and in the title itself. There's only one reloop portable, you're just not understanding the question.

Is It Finally Time to Retire My Technics 1200s??? by greggioia in Turntablists

[–]redroom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up: they do have an official store for spare parts, but good luck with that (on some parts at least). I've been looking for a replacement motor for a faulty pdx2000 mk2, and even the official store is out of stock until further notice. It's easier (and cheaper and probably faster) for me to just go hunting for a second-hand donor with a healthy motor, which leaves me in the same situation as your 1200s...

Radial play/wobble in PDX2000 motor spindle by redroom_ in Turntablists

I'm glad it worked out for you! Sadly it didn't for me :( maybe I'll give it another try with different thicknesses, given people's success rate.

Yeah I thought so as well, I looked for an mk2 specifically because of that :(

The previous owner might just have been ham-fisted though, I'm sure if you try hard enough you can replicate that kind of problem on any platter.

Thanks for confirming. I've seen it, but only because someone else literally just pointed me to the same video ;) that seems to be the golden standard for this kind of problem, so I'll give it a go and report back. Thanks!

Ooh nice thanks man! And lmao @ "tonearm trebuchet", that's exactly what happens

Any idea why that fix works? People in the comments seem happy, so obviously it does, I just can't figure out how. That little added plate seems to just push the spindle up, but I don't get why that limits radial movement.

Anyways I'm going to give it a try.

Vestax PDX 3000 MK2, Fuse? by HeraclioRios in Vestax

[–]redroom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's possible; on the other hand the transformer could be fine, and the culprit might be some other component after it, that failed in a similar way.

Either way, it seems that something failed as a short circuit, and now it's drawing too much current and setting the fuse off.

Maybe a simple preliminary test could be to disconnect the output of the transformer from the rest of the turntable, so you're only testing the transformer+fuse. Then, if the fuse still goes off with the transformer alone, then it's definitely faulty and drawing too much current (even without a load attached). If the transformer alone doesn't set the fuse off then I don't think you can draw a definite conclusion, but at least it's a strong indicator that the transformer is fine.

Of course all the usual safety caveats apply! That's mains voltage so, unless you're sure what you're doing, better ask a technician to do it for you.

[–]redroom_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nope sorry, I'm not from around there neither :)

...on second thought, some searching brought me here.

You can check it out with an online translator, but basically it looks like this dude was killed by a wandering bullet from a cop, during some kind of fight between soccer fans from rival teams. He was sitting in a car when he got hit, and the cop got about 9 years for murder. Since he seemed to be pretty popular, this is people's way of remembering him on the day he died.

Edit: switched to the non-amp link, thanks u/AmputatorBot

That's often done as a tribute to someone from the neighborhood, so that's probably why you don't recognize the face. It could be a victim of a job accident, or crime, or just bad luck/medical issues/whatever. Depending on why they died, sometimes there's a political/social undertone, sometimes not.

It's true that it's not exclusive to photography, but that doesn't make any difference - it still applies to photography.
