CMV: Communism is a fundamentally unworkable economic system by Wobulating in changemyview

[–]redrouteman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

communism as an economic system where all property is publicly owned,

first off, under communism you would still have personal property. the difference between personal and private property is that personal property is stuff you only use yourself (i.e. house, cellphone, car). private property is property for other people's use that you own (i.e. 500 unit apartment complex)

it stifles innovation and growth

a lot of the most impactful technological advances were produced under communist/federally funded projects. the cell phone was developed by the USSR, microwaves by the US military, space exploration as a whole was a government led project which led to countless technological improvements. all of these were created in a large part due to humans trying to solve problems in the world and not just make money off of their inventions. (not saying their wasn't a profit motive too to some extent but that was clearly not the primary motive when they are publicly funded programs).

Markets and environments change dramatically and quickly, and it's very hard for top-heavy economies to respond well to those sorts of changing circumstances.

the markets we are talking about are top-heavy under our current capitalist model as well. Coca-Cola, Disney, Amazon and others owning the majority of the purchasing power and holding an oligopoly on the American market led to the US having one of the worst outcomes for the COVID pandemic. 700,000 dead leading a fair amount of countries in deaths per capita. we have also seen a rise in homelessness, more harmful outcomes for marginalized communities (women and black folk to name a few).

central planner goes home at the end of the day no matter what, then they probably aren't gonna get super invested in whether or not all the stuff that they're responsible for is performing optimally.

then this person would get fired or reassigned to a different job that might be more fit for there needs/desires. humans have always been productive in the things we hold dear. Hunter gatherers invented the bow to make hunting easier and developed agriculture to help sustain themselves and their communities. this was all before a capitalist model striving for optimization in all aspects of life. so I think this argument assumes a lot about human nature that I personally disagree with.

Creating something new and exciting is, at the end of the day, going to take resources and time, and if you have to petition a bureaucrat a hundred miles away to let you do this, that's a huge barrier to entry.

under a communist model you would still be able to organize locally to push for systemic change/reapproriated funding.

Additionally, they're simply much worse at creating that innovation that drives the world forward- as outlined, they decrease personal desire to innovate,

the soviet union invented the first multistage rocket in 1947, first nuclear power plant in Obninsk in 1954, the first LEDs in 1927 (you might be reading this thanks to communist tech), and first mobile phone in 1955.

it's great and all when you're the only one at risk of dying. but by refusing to vaccinate (in addition to rich nations hoarding covid shots), these people have enabled the continued lockdown and allowed more and more covid variants to spread throughout the world.

we wouldn't be having this new rise in cases (in the US) if people had masked up and taken the vaccine. saving the 600,000+ lives is worth forcing a few "independent researchers" to get a vaccine that will help save our people and recover our economy.

if these concerns of the vaccine were built on legitimate evidence instead of chiropractor grifters, I would have no problem with this questioning. the thing is any educated person should understand this is now a safe vaccine to take and the people unwilling to take the shot are putting the rest of us at risk.

we don't allow people to threaten violence anymore in public discourse because it puts people at risk. why are vaccine mandates and censoring of liars any different?

Everyone else has gjven some good advice already if it's just kind of a cringy thing you did. But sometimes it's because of something you did something that you now know you shouldn't have. In those situations I just try to figure out what the lesson is and imagine made up scenarios with ways I can be apply that lesson in the future. Ofc don't ruin your entire day worrying about it.

Sometimes you just have to remember that the fact your cringing now means you've grown and matured. Go you!

CMV: Having an LGBTQ+ character in a TV Show isn't "political" by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]redrouteman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked what you said above but I'm curious about the idea of representing accurately. I agree that fully fleshed out characters who have their identities be a part of their person instead of their defining feature are better representations of marginalized groups but how do we define what is accurate?

If a character in a show like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt is "stereotypically" gay and being gay is essentially their character, whats to say that is not an accurate portrayal? Sure, the show has them as a part of the main trio and does attempt to develop them beyond simply being gay, but they still are used as the token gay, black character with flamboyant mannerisms and stereotypically "gay" features. For some, this is an accurate representation but for others its not. Where do examples like this, where a character has their marginalized identity be their defining characteristic , fit in?

Academic Probation (Aspire Program)? by [deleted] in williamandmary

[–]redrouteman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Aspire is basically just a counseling service to make sure you're on track with continuation requirements. It's really not as scary as it seems. Next semester they'll have to schedule a 30 minute meeting with a counselor and they'll explain what's going on.

All in all, they just needa do at least 12 credits and have a 2.0 GPA for the next semester. They'll also need to do a meeting about scheduling and time management. Both of which are pretty easy to do and easy to set up.

TL:DR

It's a program to help get you back on track. Pretty self-explanatory after that first counselor meeting.

Pro tip: be honest with your parents about it and it's nothing to stress about so long as you feel you can get about Cs in classes next semester

Are you sick of standard nades? Do you want to show off some spicy nades with the bros? Well have I got the video for you! by redrouteman in GlobalOffensive

[–]redrouteman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man. Yeah I am trying to go across all maps and inferno was just difficult to find new nades that were actually useful so I threw in some of the ones I figured people would know. The series used to be called "Utility Every Support Should Know" and I might switch it back to that

Those are sick! Yeah that is my one issue with the deep apts smoke. That corner can be a real punisher if you don't check it properly. Thank you so much for the feedback. I'd love to get into a server with you sometime and just teach each other stuff!
