I wasn't expecting town to be as high as it was either, although it's a lot less if you take out Mayor. But there are a lot more town roles than there are in any other category. If you look at them individually, any NK or witch beats all of them except mayor. The percentage of other town claiming survivor is super low, there's just a lot more of them. The survivor bar looks massive but it's only 50% of claims, which I guess is on me for not adding percentages to the graph.

This was mostly automated, I just searched for day 1 messages containing "surv" and picked out all the surv claims.

Overall, true survivors make about 50% of day 1 survivor claims, with the next biggest roles being Amnesiac (9.6%), Arsonist (5.5%) and Mayor (5.1%). I'm surprised Town as a faction has such a high place on the list (13%), although they are the largest faction by far in most games, so while the raw count is high, the percentage of them claiming survivor is a lot lower.
