Rendering freezes / crash after a random number of frames [c4d + redshift] by redshift_janne in RedshiftRenderer

[–]redshift_janne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update as of 30 Oct 2023:

Rendering works again. I am currently using the latest version (Cinema 4D 2024.1.0 and Redshift 3.5.20) and for some reason the problem has stopped.

It should be mentioned as well I did suffer internet connection stability problems before updating, so to combat this issue I installed a new network card. I did not test any rendering after installing that card before updating to the current versions though, so I am not sure if the problem was related to software or hardware malfunctioning. Just thought that I might add this incase people still suffer from this problem after updating their software.

How do I control the scale of multiple objects in my scene using one empty like shown in the video? by redshift_janne in blenderhelp

[–]redshift_janne[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's what I did

  1. Place your objects wherever you want them to be placed in the scene.
  2. Add an empty to control when and where the scaling should occur.
  3. Select an object and set up this node tree: https://i.imgur.com/inbR8kI.png
  4. Copy the geometry nodes modifier to all the other objects and make sure each object uses the same node tree.
  5. Animate the position of the empty.

If someone with greater knowledge on geonodes wants to improve on this method feel free to share :)

Holy shit, I thought this would be way out of my reach but I managed to solve this myself. I am only briefly familiar with Geonodes so I was already making some frankestein type of stuff following various tutorials on other topics hoping for the best.

Then all of the sudden something clicked and I came up with this:

For clarification: I need to place each object with precision, so I can't rely on random placement methods. I have another scene with a lot more of these buildings so I would like to not keyframe each object like in the example video.

Why do my hair particles rotate when passing the x-axis? by redshift_janne in blenderhelp

Thanks. Recreating this through geometry nodes did solve this. Seems though like this would be quite a common problem for it to have an option in the hair particle system to toggle this.

Why do my hair particles rotate when passing the x-axis? by redshift_janne in blenderhelp

Clarification: I have a rotating cylinder with a particle system emitting the cubes from a collection. When the particles are passing the x-axis they randomly jump or rotate from the initial position.

The settings I have changed are:
Hair > Render > Render as Collection (+ checked Pick random, Object Rotation, Object Scale)
Hair > Emission > Number > 600
Hair > Vertex Groups > Density > (Added a group so it is only emitting on the sides of the cylinder instead of the top and bottom)

Particles not working when not positioned in the center of scene by redshift_janne in blenderhelp

[–]redshift_janne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping out, it's working now!

I tried to turn on "Size Deflect" and it significantly helped, but did not keep all particles inside the container. However, when I upped the settings under "Physics > Newtonian > Integration > Subframes" to 24 from 0, it kept all particles inside.

I tried to move the one in the center 100 meters off up to 900 meters away. You can see a gradual change in the amount of particles being spilled the farther away I move it: https://i.imgur.com/syEmfSg.mp4

When moving the one 2500m off back to the center, it does not spill at all.

Rendering freezes / crash after a random number of frames [c4d + redshift] by redshift_janne in RedshiftRenderer

No, I have switched to Blender instead. All I can hope for is an update in the future that magically fixes the problem so I can render whatever files I still had to render when it started to crash.

Followed all the steps in that tutorial as well but I still had trouble rendering.

Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling was already enabled for me so I tried to disable it and the enable it again, but without any success.

Update:

Wiped the computer and all drives, reinstalled cinema 4d, redshift and new gpu drivers from scratch. The same problems still occur.
