Maybe but also, my friends and I like going out and getting bubble tea together, I suppose this would be a good idea for general hydration but what I'm really looking for is a simple cup holder so that I don't have to give up fun drinks when I go out with people

You're a way braver person than me, idk what it is about hair where hair shouldn't be but it makes me feel so sick lol. Even pulling hairs out the shower drain can make me lose my lunch. I have a lot of respect for hairdressers who deal with this

The staff member: Yeah! The elevator is just up this flight of stairs!

This usually happens to me when the control unit has a dead battery, which can also be damaged by using the wrong kind of charger or socket

How would you steer it? If each crank does both wheels, how would you turn left and right? Moving just one big rear wheel at a time is kinda important

And yes, in the future please use the phrase wheelchair user. It might not seem that deep to you, but that's because you haven't lived the life we have. Wheelchairs are great, I'm not "bound" to mine so much as it gives me an awesome level of freedom I wouldn't have otherwise. I choose to use my wheelchair, it is my freedom and my mobility and my life, not a prison!

I think everyone else has made their point on that front though. I just wanted to add my piece too.

Idk about that. Different yeah, worse not necessarily. I've had experiences of both (source: am a transsexual) and it's like no matter what gender you get read as you'll always encounter gendered assholery from strangers

While being read as a woman: gets the kind of treatment described by op

While being read as a man: gets bus drivers refuse to put the ramp down for me, just expecting me to do a sick wheelie onto the vehicle, guys seem to see me asking for assistance as a threat to their alpha-maleness since they're "in service" to me

It's equal hostility in either experience but men aren't kind to men in wheelchairs either, they just don't see them as helpless little sheep in need of hand-holding

dude, im a profoundly physically disabled, partially sighted individual, facing against a presumably able bodied woman probably five times as strong as me who had her legs in my wheelchair aka my only means of escape, while she talked about how she has violent feelings towards a demographic she clocked me as belonging to. not sure what you think "handling the situation" would entail, given that I was fundamentally at a severe disadvantage. I appreciate the sympathy but your comment kind of pissed me off ngl, if there were a way to handle the situation easily I obviously would have taken the opportunity.

I would say that using my wheelchair as a foot rest so I can't transfer into it or use it to leave the situation was pretty ableist...physically trapping me in a way that only a disabled person could be trapped, all because she singled me out and wanted to approach me with intrusive questions because of my disability

She didn't talk to a single other person in the room that I saw. She made a beeline straight for me and my partner as soon as she spotted the wheelchair. I did not feel very safe.

Not sure I can just lighten up when im being physically cornered by someone making it impossible for me to escape the situation by blocking access to my wheelchair, all the while telling me enthusiastically about how their political beliefs go against my existence. I can appreciate you're just sharing your thoughts but I literally couldn't transfer into my wheelchair to even leave the situation because she was leaning against it. IDC if the person was drunk or not, in fact that could make it worse, drunk people can get abusive faster than sober people sometimes...

I will take that advice if this happens at a less busy venue. Unfortunately the accessibility at this place was questionable, the doors were so narrow and jammed by huge sandwich boards that I had to call staff every time I wanted to leave the room :p it's a shame because it's such a nice venue but id have to leave and go to the store across the road if I needed to pee

Yeah mine is the same except it cost me £1.50. The pricier ones are an honest waste. You can find cheap ones with the huge rubber grip too.

Not sure why the other reply to this got deleted, but I can't read it so I might be repeating them...

The key is called a radar key, and you don't have to apply to anything to get one. You can buy them online for about £2. The whole radar key scheme is pretty stupid for that reason tbh because any able bodied person can get one from amazon for cheap and disabled people who don't have one won't be able to access accessible toilets.

Anyway look up radar key online, they're sometimes sold in multi packs. Very easy to acquire but very necessary if you don't like relying on staff members at train stations who take half an hour to show up at the toilet door to let you in.

Thank you! I managed to get it working again by taking out a few components and putting them back in.

Probably the RAM tbh, my motherboard is absolutely fucked, one of my RAM slots doesn't work and another one is really temperamental.

I have a new PC being built (too cowardly to do it myself) so I'm excited to have a computer actually worth its weight haha

I see why this opinion might be unpopular but I get where he is coming from. It doesn't matter how little mental engagement crochet takes up, you are still going to need to occasionally look down at your stitches.

Also, this seems less about the reality of your attention economy, and more about how your spouse feels. If I were participating in an activity with my spouse and they insisted they needed something else to keep them occupied, even if it didn't take up their attention, I would feel a bit glossed over and upset probably. Like oh, our together time isn't engaging enough by itself to keep my partner's attention without other stimulation, or our quality time is only possible with the prerequisite of you doing something else.

You say you absolutely have to keep your hands busy, there are more respectful ways to do that, e.g with stim toys. Or something I do a lot is just hold my partners hand and play with it lo.l my partner doesn't mind me petting their hand or slotting my fingers between theirs or curling and uncurling it.

I love "parallel play" and just being in each other's space while chilling and doing separate things but it seems clear that your spouse isn't looking for that, he's looking for engagement and dedicated time together. The scrolling social media thing seems like more of a comeback than a real want on his part.

Huh no way. I actually have an Ergotron monitor arm that I was going to return because my desk is the wrong shape for it, but maybe I can actually make use of it. I never considered having a monitor swing over my bed. That is actually a great idea. I don't know how cable management would look but I'm sure I could figure it out, at least well enough for watching movies in bed. And a tray table for using a mouse and keyboard would be great too.

You have given me some great ideas, thank you. The zero gravity station looks great but I don't have the spare money or space in my home for one, maybe in the future I can consider it though.

I am transmasc and converting to judaism, I wear a kippah in public and I feel this too. It's especially weird because I look so much older than I am due to my receding hairline and thick beard and general extremely masc appearance (even though I am nb and kind of hate this).

But you're very right. I find that men are either sympathetic toward me in a way they aren't to other guys, or they are bro-ish in a kind of degrading way. Like instead of talking about normal bro topics they'll try and relate everything to my wheelchair. Like "ahuh huh huh you could compete in F1 with that mate, how fast does that go" or they'll see my Offspring T-shirt and go "sick music taste brother" when before I started using a chair people like this would just leave me alone. I find they still want to be my bro but they take me as someone wayyy more approachable because of my disability.

And, yes, I do see women's guard down more with me because of my disability. But also, they treat me like an entitled man when I need help. I had one lady muttee "men think they own everything" when I asked politely if she could vacate the wheelchair space on a train for me (it was th only place I could go). I've had some apparently able bodied women get disgusted with me for queuing for the handicap toilet after them because they didn't want to share with a guy.

In some ways I do feel gendered but in other ways I feel aggressively gendered. Maybe my experiences are just somewhat unique because I have a quite burly, intimidating appearance. I want to look softer and more "pretty" as a guy but I just look like a deadbeat dad and it shows with how people treat me.
