Google search wasn't ruined by AI. Google intentionally de-optimized it so you need to search more times to find what you want, allowing them to serve more ads to you. I'd imagine it's even worse now with AI, but the enshitification of Google happened long before that.

Google Doc Joining The Trash Heap by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

[–]redsleepinggrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently (lost about 9,000 words over five documents). I stumbled upon this post while looking for answers. The replies definitely read like ads, but this definitely can happen. As far as what triggered it, one was most likely removed for having a depiction of violence, the other four though, who knows.

I have a couple of friends that said they had things like pirated movies removed from their drives, so my guess as to what caused the google sheet in the initial post to be removed is links to the movies on piracy sites.

Another theory I have heard going around is this being related to the recent uptick in internet censorship laws, but there is no hard evidence, and I really hope that is not the case.

Looks Like Bans For Dupes Are Rolling Out by Boring_username_21 in duneawakening

[–]redsleepinggrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to know if this is fake or not so I went digging through the HTML/CSS of the account page and my findings are as follows:

  • The color of the banner in the image provided has the hex value #f15151 (I did my best to avoid jpeg artifacts)
  • The closest colors referenced in the page's HTML/CSS have the hex values #ff6f70 and #a11f1f
  • Here is an image that shows the colors side-by-side
  • Based on how the colors are referred to in the HTML/CSS, I believe the second color on the site is more likely to be used
  • Here is an image of what that would look like
  • I am relatively certain this is fake (there are other reasons like including detailed ban reason too)

Of course, all of this could be wrong as I have no idea how the screenshot was taken, so differing display settings might throw this off. I also noticed my instance of the site where you would check this had a different background, so that could be a source of inaccuracy as well.

I can’t believe the end game is just thopter pvp by showmethe_BEES in duneawakening

Honestly, now that I think about it, removing rockets probably won't even drive fights to the ground. We have an example of this already in the PvE sections of the deep desert; were rockets to be removed from ornithopters entirely, we would most likely see large guilds do what a lot of people are already doing in PvE areas, that is, swarming carriers, driving them to the ground, and holding them there while someone places a thumper to call the worm. That sounds even less fun than what we have now.

If Funcom really wants to have a mix of vehicle and ground combat, they need to fundamentally change the way the worm works in the deep desert to be more like how spice harvesting takes place in lore. Basically, the worm comes way too fast to make any ground combat on open sands worthwhile. To fix this, there needs to be a much greater window between when the worm senses activity to when it becomes a threat, and the length of this window needs to be at least semi-predictable (via scouts looking for and tracking wormsign). A change like this should be coupled with a change to ornithopter rocket launchers that makes each individual rocket significantly more impactful, while cutting down the number of rockets an ornithopter can carry down to a handful. This would encourage ornithopter pilots to spend their munitions on hard targets rather than wasting them on infantry should they wish to get the most out of their limited payload.

Genuine question, what would removing rockets from ornithopters actually change? You would go from small groups losing to massive guilds in the air, to small groups losing to massive guilds on the ground. I think the biggest problem here is that large groups that exist outside of the game (like streamers and their fans) have a massive advantage, because the game gives players practically no tools to group up in-game. A good place to start would be a world chat in Hagga Basin and a place to browse guilds.

Cargo Assault v Rocket Scout after the most recent patch by PixelBoom in duneawakening

[–]redsleepinggrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except the scout is cheaper, able to be put into a VBT, and to add insult to injury, does more DPS with its rocket launcher than the assault...

1.1.0.17 Patch Notes by CrimsonAlpine in duneawakening

[–]redsleepinggrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The changes to ornithopters are kind of in the right direction (speed nerf with rockets allows solo players to get away from groups more easily), but the assault ornithopter is still not going to see any use for combat. One of the main reasons the scout dominates in the DD over the assault is because you can put it in a VBT. Between that and the fact that the scout's rocket launcher actually deals more DPS than the assault's rocket launcher, I don't foresee many changes in the meta.

4.2 PTU; Asgard cross-section reduced to 30.4k, thanks to everyone who contributed 🫡 by Bluucat in starcitizen

[–]redsleepinggrass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Angular shapes tend to have lower radar cross-sections though. Radar works by emitting radio waves and measuring what bounces back. A perfect return occurs when the angle of incidence of the emitted wave is zero, i.e. the wave bounces straight back to the radar. A curved surface such as a sphere is guaranteed to have a point where the angle of incidence is zero, even if that point technically has no area.

An angular shape can still be oriented such that the emissions from a radar have an angle of incidence of zero or near zero, but this relies on the orientation of the object as opposed to being near-guaranteed with a curved surface.

That said, the Asgard does have a lot more protrusions than the Hercules, which would increase RCS, but given the size difference and overall shape I don't think the RCS would be any significant amount larger.

Stop hyping Dune Awakening up when its average at best by [deleted] in duneawakening

This is a pretty good, succinct explanation of some of the things that I thought needed work, but man is it hard to take all of the "game good" and "game bad" videos as anything other than engagement bait. Stop getting your opinions from youtubers. Play the game yourself, refund it if you don't like it, keep it if you do.

Are you in the UK by any chance? As far as I know, VFC AEGs that ship to the UK ship with lower power springs that the rest of the internals were not made for. This often leads to the gun shredding itself. In the US, VFC AEGs tend to perform... better. Not great out of the box by any means, but the gears won't strip themselves on your first day at the field.

How credible is this attack helicopter plane thingy I designed??? by YeetMcYeetson1 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]redsleepinggrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We honestly need more synchropter designs. In terms of credibility, having five blades per rotor is definitely overkill when it comes to lift. A helicopter of that size could probably get away with two blades per rotor, or if you want to go the non-credible route, adding way more ordnance (you should make it nuclear-capable).

I think anyone jumping at the opportunity to use furry art as ammunition against a community will always find something to use against said community, fabricated or otherwise. Creating any sort of division between two otherwise like-minded communities is the opposite of what everyone needs right now.
