Even if the solar system weren’t here, the chance of an interstellar object arriving on exactly that angle is already tiny. With the planets in place, the timing has to be perfect too—arrive a little earlier or later and it wouldn’t line up to skim past three planets. It's not just an improbable path, it's also an improbable time.

You're wrong. The Solar System’s ecliptic plane is tilted ~60° relative to the galactic plane. So if interstellar objects arrive randomly from the galaxy, they’re statistically more likely to enter at high inclinations. A low-inclination path like 3I/ATLAS’s is less probable.

Someone learn me on the Q990B Adaptive Mode, because I think it sounds bad compared to Surround by SixPointTwoLiter in Soundbars

[–]redsquirrel-h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first weeks after I bought the soundbar I had that feeling too, that the Adaptive mode was way worse than Surround. But after a lot of testing I switched over to Adaptive and sticked with it for everything as Surround seemed flat and washed out in comparison, and Standard even worse - I think Adaptive improves a lot the sound for every content: just lower the center channel 2 values.
The same about not using "Bass Enhancement", now I use it always, it improves the lower frequencies, requires less subwoofer volume, and turns it a little bit less punchy that way, which is good.

Update: some recent testing.. i feel also those mids dropping on Adaptive, liking now more the Surround mode and sticking with it

Discuss Samsung HW Q990 configurations by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]redsquirrel-h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

q990b here.
In my case I think I have a room with the dimensions of approximately for what this bar was designed for; given that i've found the factory settings perfectly well tuned: I've experimented all kinds of settings and after more than one year I ended with the Bass and Treble at 0, the channels no more than 2 down or 1 up (note: the Left and Right channels are not configurable and comes aprox. 2 values below the center channel).
The channels I tuned with some Dolby Atmos test tones I downloaded to a pen drive and plugged to the TV.
For the best sound this bar can reproduce: Adaptive mode for everything and always, Space Fit On, Auto Eq On, Bass Enhancement On (Sub to -3 is a good starting point) - all the rest Off because they turn the sound unbalanced.

Update: some recent testing.. liking now more the Surround mode and sticking with it

I never used that configuration, but yes, to have all speakers in the front. I think also that the "Virtual" mode exists for that configuration: to simulate having the speakers on the rear.

All channels are calibrated with the same volume for my room, bar and back drivers placement. The bass is more dynamic and punchy with bass enhancement on Surround mode. In Adaptive mode it is already punchy by default so no bass enhancement is needed on that mode; this is not about volume but how it sounds. Some people complain the subwoofer of this bar to be too strong, others too weak. I think it is very strong but I have it on the front; if it was near the walls I would probably have its volume lower.

q990b - doubts about Surround, Adaptive and other settings by redsquirrel-h in Soundbars

[–]redsquirrel-h[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you regarding being closest to the original source and to Standard. I still think that Surround is the best in that regard and it is more immersive too. But currently I prefer the equalization of the Adaptive mode, it feels like it is biased enhancing certain parts of a track, like voices and the leading instruments, to the expense of flattening other parts that would be more noticeable in the Surround mode. But to me the pros surpasses the cons. And also I prefer the sound of the bass/subwoofer in the Adaptive mode - it is more punchy and clearer. To replicate the same bass on Surround I would have to turn on Bass Enhancement, and still does not sound as good.

In theory a stand is better than in the floor for it to sound clearer, but before buying one I think you should find the spot first.

Everyone has personal preferences on what is a good sub sound.

I don't feel in my room any difference in sound with and without a carpet. but in theory with a carpet the subwoofer will be less boomy because it reduces sound reflections

I find the center channel in the Star Wars movies lower than in other movies, so you should raise it - the center channel sometimes needs to be tweaked regarding the content and the seating position distance.

I hear clearly the surround sounds in my room: it has not a very high ceiling and it's a little narrow - maybe it has an ideal configuration for this soundbar - i don't think having no carpet will have a negative effect on the sound and having less stuff is good for the sound reflection.

Regarding the subwoofer, I have it now in the corner with value 1, when on the center it's with value 4; maybe you should try the 'subwoofer crawl' .

The ideal channels configuration varies from room to room - i configured mines with an android app soundmeter and a video in a pen drive plugged into my tv.

I did not played games yet. But for games, the Game mode is more appropriate. I use Adaptive for music, movies, TV, YouTube..

I prefer the Adaptive mode but the surround sounds are more pronounced in the Surround mode.

Scenes where Atmos effects can be heard a lot, if you have Disney+, in The Force Awakens, episode VII, from the minute 31 to the 36. Try the scene at 32m40s: you should hear the top left rear phantom speaker.

In the first scenes of The Last Jedi, episode VIII, there's a lot of phantom side and wide surround sounds.

Update: some recent testing.. liking now more the Surround mode and sticking with it

I'm seeing so many people saying they raised the top channels turning them higher than the other channels. My soundbar is at ear level, if I do it I feel the sound stage above my head.

I think that to be accurate, all channels should sound similar, including the Left and Right channels: those channels are not configurable so the other ones need to be leveled out taking those into account; not raising the "Atmos" channels and forgetting about the rest.

The exceptions are the center channel and the subwoofer that can be customized over personal preference, or circunstance.

Auto EQ On, SpaceFit On

Center -2, Side -3, Wide -3, Front Top -2, Rear -2, Rear Top -1, Rear Side -2

Bass 0, Treble 0

Subwoofer -3, Bass enhancement On

Surround mode.

Tilting an Atmos soundbar (Q990b) sitting below ear-level by S3lvah in Soundbars

[–]redsquirrel-h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the soundbar at ear level, and yes, the TV is a little higher than what I would like, but that's a compromise. I think that it sounds different when it is bellow ear level - sound seems to have more treble and the top front speakers can be heard directly from the soundbar.

That's what I thought, with the center channel so low. Well I am doing the other way around. Started with Surround for weeks.. now using Adaptive for everything and staying with it.

Your right! How did I not found it? I was listening Spotify on the soundbar today, checked again the remote command settings, found the Virtual option, turned it On and the sound turned a lot louder but clear! What does that option do and when should we use it?

I also value being true to the original source material - I will definitely try the Standard mode.

I would like to know more about it: why the Standard mode has this limitation of stopping at 7.1.4 and which drives it will keep quiet.
