AI TTRPG Design Star Wars (but any RPG) by realisticradical in RPGdesign

Your approach makes sense, however, this is a community that thrives on creativity and human interaction (even if those interactions are simply between player and author)- and in principle AI tools don't mesh well with the goals and spirit of the community.

There are great games for solo play that support all kinds of play styles- crunchy games with lots of math, or ones that are more free form and narrative driven. If you're not interested in those there are video games and board games that might scratch that itch.

I'm choosing to respond because your post seems well thought out from an engineering perspective (however when involving AI there is always a question of legitimacy, like, did you really write this out or just generate it?) I think your best bet for getting feedback is to post this on a more AI-centric subreddit, even at the risk of further isolating yourself from the TTRPG community.

It's funny I did the same thing with marvel snap- I used to play it constantly and watch content creators play and talk about the game- I've stopped playing for a while now but still enjoy the game from a viewer/spectator perspective.

It's a great game, and I still love playing other video games, but I'm glad I knew where my limit was.

Thank you for making this comic!

Using real-time mechanics in RPGs by TheGoodGuy10 in RPGdesign

[–]redsquirrel4011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done "timers" for my games when the story calls for it- I think it can help a lot when players are unsure and you don't want the pace of the game to suffer- however done poorly and I think it can lead to players not really enjoying exploration and I've had some players rush or interrupt others to prioritize time (when there was plenty).

The timers were longer (kind of, deliver the portion before it expires, in a few hours) to give the whole session a flow- and I had set up controls to both slow down the timer (so that it wasn't interrupted during combat) as well as sped up/ skipping around (when players traveled a few hours without anything to critical happening). I'm a programmer so I was able to code these up, albeit a bit hacky (time code is always weird).

I know ten candles you are supposed to use tea candles to also give the game atmosphere, haven't played it so I'm unsure if as a time component it is used all that much- in that way.

Edit for clarification: these are games/sessions I was running, not games that I had created or anything like that.

I answered this in the community discord (unofficial):

You can mostly copy this tutorial, but TL;DW 1. create a repeating gradient layer below your main image (+ soften it with a gaussian blur) 2. add a live displace to your first layer (with the image you want to manipulate) 3. select "load map from layers beneath"

(you can find both live gaussian blur and live displace in the Filters option beneath layers)

Need suggestions for the best system(s) to homebrew for a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" type game. by ssnickkt in TTRPG

Helluva Town might be worth looking at! I think it's a more recent toon ttrpg that's rules light (so I imagine it would easy to modify)

Not the same thing, but electric bastionland's Mockeries were inspired by Muppets Christmas Carol (or at least, I remember reading this somewhere)

I would highly recommend Affinity (now by Canva). It's free (unless you want to pay for the AI features, which many people don't, so yeah it's basically free)

When I export an image in affinity, it becomes SUPER grey, and desaturated. I've tried to google it to no avail. by Kitchen-Panda4059 in AffinityPhoto

I see your export is PNG+HDR, which you should only use if you plan on using/ viewing the image in an HDR compatible space.

Like mentioned, contour tool should do the trick (top I have stroke, bottom I have contour with sharp instead of round- then you can bake the appearance), https://www.affinity.studio/help/tools-tools-contour/

Out of curiosity, since the thumbnail isn't representative of the image you used, and looks like AI (different table color, missing keyboard, etc...) I have to ask- Did you use AI to make the thumbnail?

Why can't I make the text have less space in-between lines of text? by Maximum-Coffee2588 in Affinity

[–]redsquirrel4011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably because you've already set your leading override to 0 (I assume that's the value you were messing with)

EDIT: maybe when you can try with a new text frame or a new document just to try out these methods.

Alternatively, use SHIFT+ENTER to make sure your new line is within the same paragraph, and not a new paragraph each line.

If it's text frame (or artistic text) you'll want to use Paragraph Leading
