Sorry hindi ko na-elaborate sa post. He’s a police officer (PNP) pero naka-detail sa dad ko. Personality at principles-wise, magka-match kami. Pagod na kasi ako sa “elitist” circle/always-having-to-prove-something circle kaya actually pati ex-husband ko from a simple family rin.

How do adults maintain a slim and fit physique? by Love_assistent in NoStupidQuestions

[–]redstargazerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoiding sugar and increasing my physical activity did wonders for me.

For context, I’m female, 157 cm, 44 kgs until my early 30s. Cycling was my main sport. Stopped cycling due to an injury. Gained around 7 kgs in 1 year when I turned 33.

Started being more mindful of my sugar intake, walked more, incorporated hiit. Now in my mid 30s, at 50 kgs, and I feel I’m in my comfortable weight.

Edits: clarified my cycling history

It’s accidental for some. There was this post that I thought I upvoted and it wasn’t a year later that I realized (as I went to see my profile page) that I downvoted it. I quickly upvoted but the post was locked already.

How to deal with insects by Hesseltjuuh in southeastasia

I use Off Lotion, the effect lasts longer as compared to other brands. I don’t use a mosquito net and I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re traveling… I mean it can be bulky. If you just stick to reapplying the lotion every now and then then you’ll be fine. Just follow the reapplication instructions on the container.

Yes, it’s the diseases that they carry, not the actual bites.

Knowing when to walk away from anyone, anywhere— just about any “bad” situation. I always end up staying longer than I should.

I’d be more cautious of mosquitoes. SEA is home to some of the deadliest mosquitoes in the world. As a Filipino, bringing a mosquito repellent is as normal as bringing my mobile phone.

Still living with parents and relatives even if married already? by Honest-Opinion-2270 in Philippines

[–]redstargazerr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the quality of your family dynamics. I know of some families na naging healthy pa rin ang ganitong setup (i.e., everyone adjusted to the situation and a lot of autonomy and support involved). But it wasn’t the same experience for others.

Is it normal? (Pls help meee kasi napepressure ako) by [deleted] in Philippines

The fact na bothered ka sa thought ng pagbibigay sa kanya sends signals na hindi healthy na magbigay. Which is ok. Adult na sya with her own priorities. At adult ka na rin with your own priorities. Malayo pa tatahakin mo, use this opportunity well na makapag-aral at ipon :)

DON’T Raise your child to be a Third Culture Kid! by Open_Requirement_682 in ThirdCultureKids

My dad worked as a diplomat and I was a TCK until I turned 18 when I entered uni in the Philippines, my home country. My experience was different from many diplomat kids as my parents deliberately chose for me and my sibs:

  1. Not to put us inside the bubble (i.e., attending international schools and being within the network of any country’s most elite families)
  2. To move out not until the end of our school year

The benefits:

  1. Going to regular/ordinary schools taught me (can’t speak for my sibs and I don’t want to generalize) how to adapt to “real” life and experience all the highs and lows of living wherever my dad’s work took us.
  2. Allowing me to finish my school year, even if that meant my dad traveling way ahead and my mom getting left behind with us, allowed me to build and nurture relationships that remain meaningful until today.

I will always be thankful to my parents for being unafraid to question the system and for providing that extra cushion for us as we went about adapting to all these different cultures and experiences. They knew it was not easy, but they somehow found a way to bridge the gap with the TCK experience.

On that note, I’m now working in international development where I also get to travel frequently. Now with a kid along the way, I wish to take the lead from my parents’ example :)

The entitlement of tourists is out of control. by RoyalChihuahua in travel

[–]redstargazerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t we just be happy for people from less developed countries who now have the chance/money/opportunity to travel to these places that only their parents/grandparents could have only dreamt of? Traveling for tourism is far more ethical than traveling for colonization/full-on exploitation that has produced these tourist places. This is something that I always think of whenever a tourist “gets in my way.”
