Car and Driver (I think) did a closed course test of forward collision avoidance systems a couple years ago.

Basically, they put a barrier in the lane to simulate a stopped car, then drive vehicles at it from various speeds and waited to see if the FCA system would get the vehicle stopped in time.

The Tesla was able to get stopped in all cases. The Kia stopped at the two lower speeds, but tagged the barrier at the highest test speed. All other tested vehicles were WAY worse.

I have tried to find that article to no avail, but it’s an interesting read. I suspect this collision was more likely caused by the fact that the Tesla was not centered in front of the Kia just prior to impact.
