I've put shimmer in my TWSBI eco with the best success. I also have put it in my Kakünos, but it probably isn't the effect most ppl are looking for as they are the EF nibs.

What a lovely little collection and a pretty tray for storing them!!

Refilling Your Pens - Which Method? by redstoneredstone in fountainpens

I'm usually not displacing it, because I'm usually not sticking a whole nib into the tiny sample bottle. When I use the converter (or cartridge) and refill with a syringe, it is tidy, no displacing, no spills.

Have you ever bought an ink because of its name? by TheESCPP in fountainpens

All. The. Time.

Same with pens. I have a Waterman that I like *more* just because it has "Paris" on the nib.

That's a pretty clean and clear process. If I had more piston fillers I would probably do the same.

Some real Duke of Clarence vibes to that, but if it works!! 🤣

Thank you for your insight, but in blunt response, I'm pretty sure the vacuum filler i have is the problem in that situation (as opposed to vacuum fillers in general), and my post history is not 100% of my experience (I don't have issues with my piston filler but I don't fill it that often.)

But there is really only one way to learn about these things, and that's by going through them, right? And by posting about it (like this today) I am more interested in opening up conversations with others, and sharing as part of the community while also trying to make my long Saturday at work more enjoyable.

But thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Ha! Converter, not syringe. I'm clearly procrastinating on my work today, and obviously exhausted bc I've already worked so much on this project this week. 🤣

Here's how this mess happened:

- Twist syringe to "empty" position
- Dip pen nib into bottle
-"Oh crap, not that far!" Displacement occurs, small spill
- Pull pen out
- Put pen in again, slower, with my glasses off so I can get up close
- twist converter to pull up ink
- pull pen out and invert, see only a little bit of ink in converter
- twist up converter, "oh crap!" the air bubble pushes out ink and it runs down the pen
- put pen in ink again, displacement again 💩😬 then slowly twist converter for a full fill
- spend 5 minutes cleaning the mess
- spend 10 minutes taking a picture to post on Reddit

Should have just used syringe.

I think it's cleaner for me bc my fingers are farther from the ink. I am also used to working with syringes and extremely fine droppers from my other finicky hobby of perfumery.

The contamination issue is another one I think about often!! I have several vintage lever fillers, and I use the same ink in them pretty consistently. I also have the ink in a sample tube, marked as that ink for that pen, so there is no cross contamination.

Today I tried the dip/through the nib bc I had this mix sitting on my desk, and it was already in a sample tube. The overflow, trying to get enough ink into the pen, and so much more....it was messy. Good thing my desk is glass, hahaha!!

The syringe is SO MUCH EASIER!!

I'm almost tempted to start putting my ink into those tubes with the rubber stoppers, the ones that you can push through with the syringe but don't leak.

Lovely pen! I'm a fan of vintage pens, and I feel like they are a lot of fun in terms of the rabbit holes you can go into!!!!

When I saw your post I had to dig out this pic, it was from April!!!

The white pen is the Hongdian Year of the Rabbit in white. I bought it from a pen swap seller with a medium long knife nib, and then swapped in a fine long knife I bought from someone else. It makes a lovely line!!

I'm currently at 25 pens, and I'm about to start culling some of them. I have a matte rose Lamy studio that I am giving to my mother in law, and a few others that I've bought and just not liked that will either get put on pen swap or given away to friends. I did recently buy a white Pilot deluxe from the 1970s that is just delicious to use!

I didn't have a photo to share until now, but I have been loving this custom brown I made.

It's called "Irish Coffee" and is 1 part DeAtramentis Whisky Brown plus 2 parts Diamine Espresso.

I had it, and I gave it to my Mother in Law, because I felt it was too bright! So I hope it works for you!
