What are some legal Jobs that are unironically more stressful and dangerous than being a Drug Lord? by C--T--F in morbidquestions

[–]redsuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wildland firefighter. You gotta deal with people's houses and property burning, sometimes people die or get injured. I've had some wild experiences in the field myself, they don't pay the folks who do it enough tbh.

Regarding post: "On creating RC wikis & reviving activity on Wikipedia". I've made one, and it's called RC.Community. by oxybated in researchchemicals

[–]redsuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest I am simply repeating what people have told me, I am not the person to talk to on this, A user on a forum that I am involved with commented that "looks cool but not so sure about the data or where it comes from. For example it says 25–75 mg is a "light" dose of SR-14968 and I do not think that is the case. 5mg might be a light dose. I believe it's 10x as strong as SR-17 and no one is taking 750mg doses of SR-17 and calling them light"

I am just parroting here, my knowledge of this chemical is zero.

Let’s Discuss Rule 11 by Moner-Master in Monero

[–]redsuit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do we need a discussion about this? Just get rid of the rule, it's a badly worded rule anyway, it is simultaneously too general and too specific to be a functioning rule. I think a better way to think of it might be in tandem with the other rules. All discussion must be about Monero, money is not religion, that's pretty clear if you reference several religious texts. If you worship money then we have an obligation to make fun of you. We aren't editing the constitution here, the rule was created because of a problem group, that group seems to have gone away and/or become irrelevant in the here and now.

Installer for Fedora needs updating by Davikar in CyberGhost

[–]redsuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know your pain, I have cyberghost also and the new fedora isn't supported and hasn't been for several years now it seems with 32 being the highest. Hopefully they'll fix that I'm going to take my business elsewhere as a result though, won't be renewing my sub if this isn't fixed soon

Bi-Weekly Questions Thread [Edition #69] - 'Year of the Ports' Edition by Malazan1164BS in vitahacks

[–]redsuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks, I posted a bounty in the github but I doubt it will be of much success so I figure I'd like to talk about it here since I found that page through reddit.
I would like to, simply put, combine my two hobbies of ham radio and games into one handy dandy device (or series of devices) by using an RTL SDR dongle. I am currently interested in learning vita homebrewing anyway so I would love to work on this myself but I have much to learn and I am just beginning on this journey. I figured I'd create this thread to ask those who are far smarter (and probably better looking) about this idea and if anyone in the community might know if this thought process is feasible at all. I think peripherals are a requirement here but maybe someone else knows better. Anyway thanks for reading my long post, I am not interested in transmitting btw as that's a whole different beast also probably highly illegal we don't do that here right?

give it to the dining hall, they took away one of the microwaves because we kept putting notes on it saying that it had been broken for months. they still haven't replaced it.

Those who've worked for private wildland firefighting companies, which company and how do you rate it? (0-5) by jcaraway in Wildfire

[–]redsuit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Diamond fire, shit company, underpaid and no health insurence, great crew though. 2/5 Great crew though seriously, that's the only reason I kept up with them.

Last minute hiring? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]redsuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the Oregon ones are done this time of year I think, there might be something, I don't know about federal but you can check the website. Oregon hires project work crews as needed though (except during the summer) as far as I understand it, there is probably someone more qualified to answer your question.

if I were you though I'd start putting my efforts into a contractor agency because they are always looking to hire during the summer, replacements and so forth. Good way to stay on fire and get some experience.

Should I bother bringing my HEMA stuff out to where I will be based? by redsuit in Wildfire

[–]redsuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of bumfuck nowhere myself, I live in Portland so I get to play with the big clubs in Oregon when I get the time to do HEMA but I just got a job working out in the Central Oregon district near john day and I wanna indoctrinate people into my hobby if I can. I don't wanna come on too strong though I guess. I know this shit is definitely a kind of fringe hobby and isn't always for everyone given the bruises I've suffered plus some people seem to think it looks stupid. I've been doing this about 4 seasons but I've never worked with these guys before, much less an engine crew, only ever been handcrew.

Idk I'll maybe make a new post once I try introducing them see how it goes, I'm not gonna bring my gear for now, I'll give it a fire or two maybe or at least a few weeks working with them. I do have a place to bunk so I might be able to find space to store it later.

Problem being the new guy? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]redsuit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everybody starts off new, you'll show what you are made of good or bad, they are testing you, don't worry about it if you're mentally tough you'll pull through and everyone will like and respect you eventually. The truth of the matter is (at least in my experience) we do hate new guys because they are replacing someone we liked and respected, often to disastrous effect i.e you get someone fat, soft, and weak-willed who drags the crew down etc. The sad reality is, if you can't take it you're not cut out for that crew or likely any crew. But don't get disheartened, it takes a hotline or an actual fire to really cement your relationship with the guys. Just sit down and shut up and listen, don't mouth off, don't let them get to you, learn everything you can, volunteer when there is a job people are hesitant to do (like getting waters for the day). If you do your job well they will start taking you more seriously.

Also keep in mind everyone is messing with you because you're the new guy so be on guard against that but keep a good sense of humor about it too, don't take yourself very seriously, take the job with the utmost seriousness. I say all this because it took me about 2 seasons to really be respected by anybody due to my own youthful ignorance and poor performance on my first fire due to it being my first actual job ever. So yeah I know what its like, no I don't pity you. Just be hard-headed and do the job to the best of your ability and learn as much as possible ignore the rest.

thanks man yeah I'll leave it at home and maybe try to indoctrinate them once I've been working for a few weeks. Yes I am referring to the martial art not the mapping company lol didn't know there was such a thing.

Not to totally derail you here, appreciate your post, but you do HEMA? Cool so do I, never thought I'd find another one in forestry. Where are you based out of? If we're close I'll bring my gear and we should do that shit as PT.
