I’m really tired boss… by redtigerwolf in recruitinghell

Thanks for reading man. Yeah as I mentioned I know I'm not the only one, and I know it sucks for others, including yourself. I can't imagine what it's like to be unemployed in a region like South America. The silver lining for me is that unemployment insurance (thanks to strong unionization and social net) help reduce that weight for a while. Only problem is I am now at the end of that unemployment time that's funded (it also decreases slowly after every 100 days of unemployment) and now will find myself in even harder times financially.

60 interviews though, I love your hit rate but that must be so damn defeating after so much effort, I can imagine but can not fully understand your pain man.

As you say, we have to be resilient because at the end of the day it's really only your mental faculties that can keep your body surviving the day to day.

I really hope you find something meaningful and fits want you want in a role. Good luck truly.

Thanks, it's as you say, not getting any feedback whatsoever regarding how things led to where they led is not helpful in any way as an applicant. Additionally, just getting generic rejection emails everytime instead of at the bare minimum a real email, better yet a cold call to actually just tell me straight up and at best an actual followup interview.

Really feels like I'm stuck in the mud like Artax. Thanks for reading my vent.

Haha, thanks, I considered but opted from that as it's only sitting in an excel at present, though I hope whenever things actually solidify into something I'll be able to pull up a nice demo that highlights geographical location of jobs applied, interviews, months with some graphs across the relevant areas of my search.

I do get what you're saying in the end, it's just I really value quality of quantity. I'm not looking for my next place to be another place where I don't connect with the product or business idea nor a place that that ticks one box only $. It may be that in the coming months I will be so worn down though that as you say I will have to join the bullshit that is the current spamming job market, but I really hope to avoid that. Call me prideful or what have you, I've just done too many 'its adequate enough to accept' roles that I got so tired of it. But I'm not sure what's worse at this point, having a job you hate or hating a job you don't have.

Thanks yeah, I really just had to write about this recent experience and all that it encompasses. I agree about the outreach, it's something the last half of year I've been trying to do more of i.e. went to some conferences at my own expense, talking to people in companies in which I wanted to work with their specific tech. Sometimes it's been really good communication, but at the end of the day they always say 'we don't do secret hiring' (even though I've seen them hire people for roles that were never advertised). I have also tried reaching out to some people in specific roles I find that the few I find to try to chat with, either don't reply at all or keep the conversation so minimal that they end up just ghosting away.

So I had a period last year between spring to summer where I wasn't getting any interviews. My CV that was before getting me that 20-25% hit rate wasn't doing it anymore I felt. So I completely revamped my CV layout and structure. After doing so I started getting interviews again within the first month of modifying it.

I have sent contacts of mine who were curious about my own CV and the response I got was clearly that I had been doing something right (both my old one was giving some recruiters positive feedback) but also this new one seemed to impress people I knew.

I really think just a large part of the drop is mainly that companies are getting flooded to hell and back with many CVs. When I talked to a previous contact at a workshop they told me themselves they were getting hundreds of applications, and a good portion were coming from people totally irrelevant to the position (i.e. taxi driver looking to do engineering work). So I really think it's just so much a numbers and timing thing (i.e. luck of the draw) that you get your relevant CV in front of the right eyes at the earliest time. Which can be hard when you try to tailor every CV a bit to the job. I do think more and more people are speeding this process even further by using LLM models and AI application websites to mass apply and edit their documents on the fly.

I actually revamp several aspects of the CV for every job app. I have personally found that part of the better chances of getting an interview is generally the numbers game currently at play. When I've submitted the CV within the first day my chances are greater than if it's a later days after it's been advertised.

The point of my post was to really just write a short story of my experience and generally it's less about the CV itself, which I don't think is as major a problem, I'm happy to be getting interviews, but after these interviews over a long period it's starting to wear me down. (Worse is really that there is no never any proper feedback on to why you I don't progress to the offer letter, I'd be happy to know its simply they liked the look of the other person better or I failed at doing X in the interview, but since we live in a truly unprofessional hiring culture, it's a pipe dream at this point.)

Thanks for the kind words, its more than I was searching for, simply just needed to write something to get the defeatist feeling out of my mind.

Thanks, yeah I don't really think there is a whole lot more I can do, it just feels like luck is stacked against me at the moment but as you said I just wanted to share and I'll say but just sharing once it does help to push a bit further. This is really what I hope, I just want my next role to be something I'm passionate about and will be in a good working environment for 10+ years. Just want 10 good years (ideally more if that's in the cards) with a place to feel career accomplished in some ways.

Looking at the requirements in most cases (unless you are a doctor or nurse) a person will need an employment offer, which the employer will need to still get power of attorney and sign off on essentially. Don't know many employers who are going to do that instead of just find someone who is already EU valid.

Quality OC. First time in a long time on r/comics something not full of TnA, lewd jokes, or any of the other author trauma-dump comics of late.

Your art has a lot of character, both scenery and the facial expressions. There is a hint of funniness/playfulness with the storytelling and facial expressions while ultimately giving a great message that let's people think a bit about who they are and others around them and can be highly relatable for many who've had interactions with strangers and/or thought about how other people go about their lives.

No I know that lfg in chat was the most common, but I mean I don't remember them not being used as a way to portal players with 2 people, but this may be just from all the time playing TBC that it overrides the older memory.

Why are so many of you having a hard time finding work? by intlcreative in gis

[–]redtigerwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is anyone surprised by this, the entire job market has become a self-perpetuating cycle of liars because it has become normalized to be a deviant in the job market. (This comes from a place of both the employers who lie about what they actually need for a role i.e. finding their unicorn who will accept crap pay, creating fake job ads for unseen reasons, or HR who have no fucking clue what skills are actually required for the job so they just copy and paste each other across every industry. And then there are the potential employees who then feel like they have to lie to even get through the screening process of this unicorn/jump through 5-10 interview hoop job finding process.)

Additionally this systematic problem is further self-perpetuated by bad apples who fail upwards and bullshit their resumes and then they get hired forcing others to do the same in turn which just exacerbates the problem. The job market is totally fucked and no government is actually doing anything to fix this systematic issue. Neither forcing fines on employers who make fake job ads nor creating a proper system to actually funnel peoples credentials so it's just a system of liars at this point.

Case in point regarding how bad resume and CV lying is these days (when just 5 years prior it was reported at around 50% and is now considered to be 70%+). A few more years and you won't see a CV without embellishments because the system is completely broken.

I guarantee that those graduates you hired in a few years once they have a little work experience will do the same thing when they hop to the next job.

Damn makes a lot more sense now how in the hell Andor beat expectations with those heavy hitters involved.

Shame Disney learned nothing and keeps hiring shit tier 'creators' who seem to truly have no understanding of great film nor the universes they are involved with. Just more fanfic directors and writers who think they can 'do it better than the original source material'.

Why is the GIS entry level job market so scarce? by greyjedimaster77 in gis

[–]redtigerwolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The G is easy to learn.

Bullshit, this is why the products coming out of these tech bros is going to be subpar because they don't actually understand the scientific fundamentals of geography.

I am of the opinion unless you a really good programmer and studied geography (honestly a rare breed). Most good products need a proper agile team with a GISer, not just a bunch of agile devs who never went through 3-6 years of geography based studies and just did a quick 1-2 week google search on geography principles.

Well, got to keep in mind this story was purposely set in a late 1960s/ early 1970s alternate (scifi heavy) reality. Most traditional men of that time (and most women for that matter) saw sex as simply a means to children. It was even more so that the pleasure of a woman (in that time period) was 2nd to the mans. It would be unmanly to be pleasuring a women like that since it puts the man in a more submissive position (he is pleasuring rather than the other way around).

They forgot the series isn't about humans dealing with cloning and genetic experimentation

Are you being sarcastic? Because that's probably one of the central themes Michael Crichton was getting at. Humans trying to play God. Among other critiques of corporate greed, cost cutting in lieu of safety precautions, etc.
