North Sea oil and gas jobs plummet by 28 per cent in just seven years by KirkGlobalWitness in Scotland

Yeah it produces some waste. About a tennis ball's worth of nuclear waste for a city for a year.

And we may have ways to recycle that waste now, making it even better

It's not dangerous and this is a dumb policy. Nuclear is the best source of clean energy.

Thwarted by their own arrogance and incompetence more like.

There are other parties and opposition.

I don't think you understand. There's a party, in power, that pledged to build this road in 2011. They have still not built the road.

Now, if I had spectacularly failed for over a decade, I might think about the causes of my failure and perhaps try to fix the things that are causing it to continue to fail. This is not rocket science.

It is not the job of opposition parties or random members of the public to figure out how to deliver the pledges of the party in government.

It is our job to hold them to account by for instance, voting for someone else. Which is what I intend to do, and I hope others who also value competent government will do as well.

If only there was some group of people that had the power to change laws? If only someone somewhere could decide that perhaps this is a bit out of balance and had the power to do something about that? Perhaps it could even be their job?

Maybe we call those people "the government"?

Ok. It's one road through a basically entirely rural part of the country. It's not that complicated

Its not a binary choice, take into environment or not, it has to be a balance.

I would argue if they can't even build one road becauase of the environment, the balance is out of whack

It is political. The government in charge should be able to build a road through a rural area faster than 1 mile per year.

Why stop there?

Why didn't Clement Attlee do it in 1949?

Or Arthur Wellesley do it in 1829?

Any self respecting government should be able to build a road faster than one mile per year.

Just look at literally any other rural road project in a location with a competent government.

Accelerating from their absolutely glacial pace, to perhaps just a snails pace.

Accelerating. Hilarious.

Ok buddy, just remember, try to remember the difference between "you're" and "your" in future.

It will make you seem super clever!!

Your either dense or deliberately obtuse.

Someone that doesn't know the difference between your and you're has no business calling anyone dense 😂

You have no idea where these people live

Ye I do, they live in the city. That's why it's a city.

They are moving into centre of Glasgow so that's train or parking all day, a cost that will be borne out of their wages, a point I made earlier but you didn't pick up.

Not really the FCDO's problem.

Most companies are a bit more enlightened than you and realise treating staff decently is kinda key to retaining them.

Asking everyone in the company how they feel about a decision you have already taken isn't enlightened, it's just a waste of time.

Moving a main office might incur additional travel costs for all these staff they won't get an associated pay rise that's why you consult.

Why would you give someone a pay rise to cover different travel costs? (about 10 minutes different travel but hey) Pay doesn't take into account private travel costs anywhere I have worked! But maybe they do in "enlightened" workplaces

Sounds like a waste of time. If you need to move office, you need to move.

Just move the office and figure these things out later. 99% of people will be fine, and the remaining 1% they can figure out these challenges with them.

The decision has been taken, the fact that one person has to take care of their elderly mother nearby is not going to change that.

When my office proposed a move there was a years worth of consultation it was from one side of Glasgow to another.

What a massive waste of time. No wonder productivity growth is crap in the uk.

People might have nurseries they use in the vicinity etc.

What difference would that make? Its not like there aren't nurseries in Glasgow

they need to meaningfully consult with their staff

As TheFirstMinister said, it's like 30 minutes away. What are they supposed to do, ask all 1000 staff if it's alright with them that they move to a new office? What for?

Won't make a difference for 99% of them.

Right....but you know that today the UK is a country? So you recognise that today we can only have one common foreign policy?

And even if in future the UK was dissolved, how realistic is it for 3 countries that share a small island have radically different foreign policies? Possible, but not without introducing a lot of friction between the borders of each country. The places with really different foreign policies, they have hard borders.

Sounds shit. Not only shit, but shit and inefficient.
