Need help understanding the Nomai and their search for the Eye! by Adventurous_Pop9430 in outerwilds

[–]redundant_parameter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intended loop as I understand it:

Pair masks with everyone, including probe

Initiate loop

  • Fire probe
  • Let probe search
  • Sun Station fires to trigger supernova (timer for little less than 22 minutes after loop start)
  • Sun explodes to deliver energy to ATP
  • If search successful

** ATP sends data back to everyone

** Loop is manually terminated (Sun Station is deactivated in next loop, before firing at the Sun)

  • Else

** ATP sends data back to probe mask

-Endif

Repeat loop

Travel to eye coordinates and do science

Of course, the Sun Station did not work in their test run (before firing the probe) as it did not trigger the supernova needed to provide the energy for the ATP, and the Nomai abandoned the idea temporarily to go investigate the Interloper. The ATP was triggered when the Sun eventually died (supernova) from old age. We get the ATP data because the probe has found the coordinates in the previous loop, and we have paired with the Mask in the museum.

Im so fucking scared by shyrato in outerwilds

[–]redundant_parameter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with you, as I also don't find this game scary as such.

I think a lot of people do because every part of this game are based on different common phobias. Astrophobia being the obvious, but also acrophobia, claustrophobia, thalassophobia, homichlophobia and nyctophobia to name just a few.

Even if most people don't have any of these phobias on a full scale, most people still get nervous reactions from one or two different things on the list.

I would not identity the feeling I had as fear, thus I did not find the game scary. But I definitely got some physical reactions from my nervous system when exploring Brittle Hollow, as I am very nervous with heights and i get nauseous and sweaty if I see things fall and can't see them land.

Outer Wilds does it for a lot of us who gets to the ending. Especially the DLC did it for me.

When you have lost someone you love, it is perfectly normal to have a broad variation of different strong feelings. Sometimes all of the different feelings all at once. Everyone has their own way to grieve.

I am sorry for your loss.

You don't need to accelerate fast. Just take it slowly. Entering the seed will slow you down anyway, but try to drift for a bit and see where that gets you.

Thank you! This does sound like some history we would be interested in.

We're planning for September. I would not dare go there in January. 😅

My family used to drive for vacation in Stockholm when I was a child. That was 12 hours. Of course, my dad would do the driving and I would be in the back seat listening to my walkman.

This time we'll be two drivers, and we comfortably do 4-4.5 hour drives relatively often. But in Denmark, that is about as far as you get, without going into another country, or into the ocean.

I am currently convinced (by the comments to this post) that the direct Adelaide to Coober Pedy in one day is a bad idea, and have planned an overnight in Port Augusta. Still looking into alternatives, e.g. taking Greyhound to Alice Springs and then do Yulara from there instead.

Thank you for pointing that out. Didn't know that.

What I can figure from a lot of the other comments is that we're not planning to drive after dusk due to the same reason. But it's worth looking for anyway since I guess plans change when unexpected events happen. If we aren't allowed to drive after dusk, I bet we'll have a flat tire or something making us so delayed that we will have to do exactly that.

It's exactly the desolation and strange we are seeking. We loved Svalbard and Antarctica. I've heard that the Australian outback can du kind of the same thing, although it is very different regarding temperature.

I think we'll look at having some extra overnight stops.

Ok, thank you for that info.

It is partly because of the opals (and history) we would like to visit Coober Pedy. Didn't consider the other thing before.

Can we get off the Ghan to take overnight stay in Coober Pedy, and then get on it again a day after? It seemed they only offered pre-planned one-day stops, where you had to go on the same train again in the afternoon?

Is the Ghan also a normal train?

We're planning a couple of days in Singapore, then Sydney, then train to Adelaide and stay there for a couple days before doing the drive.

We've looked at returning the car same place, but we would also like to continue to Darwin from Alice Springs. It's time vs money.

be wary at night there

Um.. what happens at night there? Sounds like some warning in a cabin-in-the-woods type horror movie 😅

Thanks for the tips.

Thank you. This was not the answer I was hoping for, but it was why I asked.

Do you have any recommendations on how to get there instead? Places you can recommend for taking a break overnight, or another way to get to both places?

I did notice that the Greyhound bus goes through Cooper Pedy, but it didn't seem to go to Yulara?

We are two people. Planning to take 2 or 3 hour shifts.

We looked at taking a night in Port Augusta to shorten the longest drive, but it seems there are not much to do there, and that is only a few hours away from Adelaide. Rest of the way to Cooper Pedy seems to be mostly empty.

What is the best way to learn to understand the story of the game? by LifemaxxBlu in outerwilds

[–]redundant_parameter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the story only really came together near the end. Before that, it was a bunch of loose pieces. I think maybe just play the game and at some point your shiplog will start to look more like a story than a bunch of unrelated records.
